The following list describes some of the many applications made possible through the power and flexibility of wireless LANs: 1. Difficult-to-wire environments There are many situations where wires can not or can not easily be laid. Historic buildings, older buildings, open areas and across busy streets make the installation of LANs either impossible or very expensive. 2. Temporary workgroups Consider situations in parks, athletic arenas, exhibitions, disaster-recovery, temporary office and construction sites where one wants a temporary WLAN established and removed. 3. The ability to access real-time information 2 Doctors/nurses, point-of-sale employees, and warehouse workers can access real-time information while dealing with patients, serving customers and processing information. 4. Frequently changed environments Show rooms, meeting rooms, retail stores, and manufacturing sites where the workplace is frequently rearranged. 5. Small Office and Home Office (SOHO) networks SOHO users need a cost-effective, easy and quick installation of a small network. 6. Wireless extensions to Ethernet networks Network managers in dynamic environments can minimize the overhead caused by moves, extensions to networks, and other changes with wireless LANs. 7. Wired LAN backup Network managers implement wireless LANs to provide backup for mission-critical applications running on wired networks. 8. Training/Educational Facilities Training sites at corporations and students at universities use wireless connectivity to ease access to information, information exchanges, and learning. 1- 6 Network Configurations To better understand how the SL-2011 PLUS wireless LAN products work together to create a wireless network, it might be helpful to depict a few of the possible SL-2011 PLUS network configurations. The SL-2011 PLUS wireless LAN products can be configured as: 1. Ad-hoc (or peer-to-peer) for departmental or SOHO LANs. 2. Infrastructure for enterprise LANs. 3. IP Sharing for 56K/ISDN TA/Cable/DSL Modem β Connect Internet and your SOHO network. Ad-hoc (peer-to-peer) Mode This is the simplest network configuration that several computers equipped with the PC cards that form a wireless network whenever they are within range of one another (Figure 1-3). In ad-hoc mode, each client, is peer-to-peer, would only have access to the resources of the other client and requires no the access point. This is the easiest and least expensive way for the SOHO to set up a wireless network. 3 Figure 1-3 A wireless Ad-hoc network Infrastructure Mode The infrastructure mode requires the use of an access point (AP). In this mode, all wireless communications between two computers have to be via the AP no matter the AP is wired to Ethernet network or stand-alone. If used in stand-alone, the AP can extend the range of independent wireless LANs by acting a repeater, which effectively doubling the distance between wireless stations as shown in Figure 1-4. FCC ID: NI3-SL-2011CDPLUS ADT No.901107R01 Operational Description The transmitter of the EUT (Wireless LAN PC Card) is powered by notebook and plugged in PCMCIA Slot. This EUT is equipped with antenna type of Patch antenna. And there is no antenna connector. Under normal use condition, the user has to keep at least 20cm separation distance between radiator and the body of the user. The other instruction, please have a look at the users manual. DSSS Information This device is Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum, the data is mixed by pseudorandom code which is an orthogonal code. The mixed data is digital modulated by BPSK and QPSK technique depends on the data rates. The CCK coding is applied for increasing the data rate, and also the processing gain will be increased. The bit rates are 1,2,5.5,11Mbps, the symbol rates are 1,1,1.375,1.375Mbps, the chip rates are always 11Mbps. So, the Chip/symbol is 11,11,8 and 8 respectively. Although is higher bit rate, the processing gain is lower than 10, but the CCK coding used in higher bit rate will provide 2.2dB coding gain.
FCC ID: NI3-SL-2011CDPLUS ADT No.: 901107R01A FCC TEST REPORT REPORT NO.: RF901107R01A MODEL NO.: SL-2011CD PLUS EL-2011CD PLUS ACCORDING: FCC Guidelines for Human Exposure IEEE C95.1 APPLICANT: SENAO INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD. ADDRESS: 2F, No.531, Chung Cheng Rd., Hsin-Tien, Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C. ISSUED BY: Advance Data Technology Corporation LAB LOCATION: 47 14th Lin, Chiapau Tsun, Linko, Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C. 0528 ILAC MRA Lab Code: 200102-0 FCC ID: NI3-SL-2011CDPLUS ADT No.: 901107R01A RF Exposure Measurement (Mobile Device) 1. Introduction 2.4 GHz frequency band is regarded specially as a dangerous band for its heating harmfulness to the human body. Thatβs why microwave oven is operating in this frequency band. The manufacturer whose product is working in this frequency band is obligatory to prove the harmfulness of his product. In this document, we try to prove the safety of radiation harmfulness to the human body for our product. The limit for Maximum Permissible Exposure (MPE) specified in FCC 1.1310 is followed. The Gain of the antenna used in this product is measured in a Fully Anechoic Chamber (FAC), and the maximum total power input to the antenna is measured. Through the Friis transmission formula and the maximum gain of the antenna, we can calculate the distance, away from the product, where the limit of MPE is reached. 2. Classification The antenna of the product, under normal use condition, is at least 20 cm away from the body of the user. Warning statement for keeping 20 cm separation distance and the prohibition of operating next to a person has been printed on the users manual. So, this product is classified as the Mobile Device. 3. RF Exposure Limit According to FCC 1.1310: The criteria listed in the following table shall be used to evaluate the environmental impact of human exposure to radio-frequency (RF) radiation as specified in 1.1307(b). FCC ID: NI3-SL-2011CDPLUS ADT No.: 901107R01A LIMITS FOR MAXIMUM PERMISSIBLE EXPOSURE (MPE) Frequency Range (MHz) Electric Field Strength (V/m) Magnetic Field Strength (A/m) Power Density (mW/cm 2 ) Average Time (minutes) (A)Limits For Occupational / Control Exposures 30-30061.40.1631.06 300-1500......F/3006 1500-100,000......56 (B)Limits For General Population / Uncontrolled Exposure 30-30027.50.0730.230 300-1500......F/150030 1500-100,000......1.030 F = Frequency in MHz 4. Friis Formula Friis transmission formula : Pd = (Pout*G) / (4*pi*r 2 ) where Pd = power density in mW/cm 2 Pout = output power to antenna in mW G = gain of antenna in linear scale Pi = 3.1416 R = distance between observation point and center of the radiator in cm Pd is the limit of MPE, 1 mW/cm 2 . If we know the maximum Gain of the antenna and the total power input to the antenna, through the calculation, we will know the distance r where the MPE limit is reached. Ref. : David K.
