Users Manual

RMS TX-LI Transmitter User Manual Overview Thank you for selecting the Westhold RMS TX-LI transmitter. It is part of a sophisticated electronic timing and scoring system, the RMS. The lightweight and compact TX-LI device operates on a non-removable, rechargeable, Lithium-Ion battery. It is easy to install, operate and maintain. Operation Directions TX-LI Illustration 1. The TX-LI battery should be charged up before use. Place the TX-LI transmitter in a RMS Multi-Unit Charger or a RMS Single-Unit Charger. Both the green and red LED lights will come on to indicate that the unit has begun charging. When the unit has finished charging the red LED will turn off and the green will remain on. Charge time will vary depending on how full the unit’s battery is. Full charge from empty takes about 3 hours. 2. Take the unit out of the charger when charging has terminated. The green LED will flash rapidly every 3 seconds. The number of flashes indicates the number of days of charge left in the unit. The maximum is 7 flashes. When the amount of charge remaining is down to the last day, the green LED will no longer flash. Instead, the red LED will flash once every 3 seconds to indicate that less than 1 day of charge is left and that the unit should be recharged. 3. Place the TX-LI unit in a holder and mount the unit on the vehicle in an orientation such that the label is parallel to the ground. This orientation will provide optimal performance. The unit must be mounted such that there is NO metal or carbon fiber between the unit and the receiver pick-up antenna in the ground. These materials will block the signal from the TX-LI transmitter from being picked up by the receiver. Ground Be sure to place the TX-LI unit at the same location for each vehicle. The receiver is capable of resolving the location of the transmitter to within inches of the centerline of the receive antenna. Special Note : Be sure to securely fasten the TX-LI unit to the vehicle. A poorly fastened TX-LI, like any other vehicle part, can be a hazard if it comes off on the race course! Maintenance The TX-LI requires minimal maintenance. Cleaning the battery contacts can be done with a damp cloth or cotton swab. The external plastic may be cleaned with a damp cloth. Do not use solvents to clean either the plastic or the battery contacts. NO.: 15.209 TESTED BY: Ricky Hill DATE:10/04/02 Minimum Standard: The field strength of emissions from the device shall not exceed the following limits. Fundamental (MHz) Field Strength (μ μμ μV/m) Field Strength (dBμ μμ μV) 0.009 - 0.490 2400/F(kHz) @ 300m — 0.490 - 1.705 24000/F(kHz) @ 30m — 1.705 - 30 30 @ 30m — 30 - 88 100 40.0 88 - 216 150 43.5 216 - 960 200 46.0 Above 960 500 54.0 Test Results: Complies. The worst-case emission level is 45.2 dBμV/m @ 10m at 10.77 MHz. This is 4.3 dB below the specification limit. Measurement Data: (Procedure ANSI C63.4-1992) Maximizing Emission Levels: For hand held equipment or equipment that may be mounted in a variety of positions, the E.U.T. was tested on three orthogonal axis to determine orientation of worst-case emission levels. Below 30 MHz an active loop antenna is used at a fixed height of 1 meter. The loop is rotated about it's vertical axis to obtain worst-case results. Spectrum Searched: The spectrum was searched from the lowest frequency generated in the E.U.T. up to 1000 MHz, or the 10 th harmonic of the fundamental emission. Near-Field Measurement: Emissions below 30 MHz are measured in the near-field and an extrapolation factor of 40 dB per decade is used to determine the 10m limit. Example: Measurement Distance = 10m Specification Distance = 300m 10m Limit: Specified limit (at 300m) - (40 Log 10 300 ) Thus for measurement at 10m the specified limit is increased by 59 dB.
