Product updates may result in differences between the information provided in this manual and the product shipped. RF Exposure Compliance Requirements The Viper SC radio is intended for use in the Industrial Monitoring and Control and SCADA markets. The Viper SC unit must be professionally installed and must ensure a minimum separation distance listed in the table below between the radiating structure and any person. An antenna mounted on a pole or tower is the typical installation and in rare instances, a 1/2-wave whip antenna is used. Antenna Gain Min Safety Distance (cm @max power) 5 dBi 10 dBi 15 dBi VHF 123cm 219cm 389cm UHF 122cm 217cm 386cm 900 MHz (Model # 1405098304) 66 cm 116 cm 207 cm 900 MHz (Model # 1405098504) 64 cm 113 cm 202 cm It is the responsibility of the user to guarantee compliance with the FCC MPE regulations when operating this device in a way other than described above. The installer of this equipment must ensure the antenna is located or pointed such that it does not emit an RF field in excess of Health Canada limits for the general population. Viper SC uses a low power radio frequency transmitter. The concentrated energy from an antenna may pose a health hazard. People should not be in front of the antenna when the transmitter is operating. Recommended safety guidelines for the human exposure to radio frequency electromagnetic energy are contained in the Canadian Safety Code 6 (available from Health Canada), the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Bulletin 65 and the Council of the European Union’s Recommendation of 12 July 1999 on the limitation of exposure of the general public to electromagnetic fields (0 Hz to 300 GHz) (1999/519/EC). Class A Digital Device Compliance NOTE: This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A digital device, pursuant to part 15…

Having the subject information easily available to "competition" would negate the advantage they have achieved by developing this product. Not protecting the details of the design will result in financial hardship. Permanent Confidentiality: The applicant requests the exhibits listed above as permanently confidential be permanently withheld from public review due to materials that contain trade secrets and proprietary information not customarily released to the public. Short-Term Confidentiality: The applicant requests the exhibits selected above as short term confidential be withheld from public view for a period of ___(specify number of days not to exceed 180) 2 ___ days from the date of the Grant of Equipment Authorization and prior to marketing. This is to avoid premature release of sensitive information prior to marketing or release of the product to the public. Applicant is also aware that they are responsible to notify ACB in the event information regarding the product or the product is made available to the public. ACB will then release the documents listed above for public disclosure pursuant to FCC Public Notice DA 04-1705. NOTE for Industry Canada Applications: The applicant understands that until such time that IC distinguishes between Short Term and Permanent Confidentiality, either type of marked exhibit above will simply be marked Confidential when submitted to IC. Sincerely, By: Director of Engineering Russell Cook (Signature/Title 3 ) 1 - The asterisked items (*) require further justification before permanent confidentiality will be allowed. These also currently require review by the FCC under their Permit-But-Ask policy before the grant is issued and can delay completion of an application. Further justification should be added to the note above. One such example for a potted device would be: “The EUT is FULLY potted using a non-removable epoxy based material. Removal of potting material causes irreparable damage to internal circuitry. See photographs exhibits that outline the device before and after potting.” 2 - Please refer to http://atcb.com/publicdocs/Memo-Short-Term-Vs-Standard-Confidentiality.pdf for complete details. 3 - Must be signed by applicant contact given for applicant on the FCC site, or by the authorized agent if an appropriate authorized agent letter has been provided. Letters should be placed on appropriate letterhead.

Viper Tune Up Procedure The radio will be connected to an automatic testing station where a software program will tune all the radio parameters. The following instructions summarize the procedure for tuning the output power. The tuning program will key up the radio at four points across the band and sets the power to 12W. Power control is achieved by controlling the voltage on the first stage of the transmitter, which controls the RF drive to the following stages. The power output is programmable by using a digital to analog converter (DAC) on the RF board. This DAC is controlled by the on-board microprocessor. Once the DAC value is determined for these four frequencies the processor interpolates the DAC value for frequencies in between the calibrated frequencies. This ensures equal power output across the entire RF band. The tuning program then will tune the radio at four points across the band at 1W by following the same procedure. The processor interpolates the DAC value for power values between the calibrated powers. Note: Deviation is a preprogrammed set value for all radios.

TEST RESULTS: Meets minimum standards ( see data on following pages ) TEST CONDITIONS: Standard Test Conditions, 25 C RF Voltage measured at antenna terminals TEST PROCEDURE: TIA/EIA – 603-C, 2.2.13 TEST EQUIPMENT: 50-Ohm Atten, Bird Electronics Model 50-A-FFN-20 (20dB, 50W) 50-Ohm Atten, Bird Electronics Model 10-A-MFN-10 (10dB, 10W) Power Supply, Hewlett Packard Model 6653A Spectrum Analyzer, HP 8563E Power Meter, Model HP437B Reference Generator, Agilent E8257D High Pass Filter, Mini Circuits BHP-300 TEST SET-UP: Filter By-Pass TEST UNIT ATTENUATORS HIGH PASS FILTER POWER SUPPLY SPECTRUM ANALYZER REFERENCE GENERATOR POWER METER MEASUREMENT PROCEDURE: 1. The transmitter carrier output frequency is 216.050, 219.050 and 221.950 MHz. The reference oscillator frequency is 23.040 MHz. The power amplifier has voltage levels at 11.9 Volts, 8.4 Volts and 8.1 Volts for 12 watts, 2 watts, and 1 watt, respectively. 2. The carrier reference was established on the spectrum analyzer with the filter by- pass in place. Then the spectrum was scanned from DC to 2 Fc. Finally, the high pass filter was inserted to null the carrier fundamental and extend the range of the spectrum analyzer for harmonic measurements above 2 Fc. 3. At each spurious frequency, generation substitution was used to es…
