During the installation Windows will install the "StillImage" device class. If this is the first time you are adding a device of this class, Windows will require you to reboot your machine. 3.0 Procedure: Plug in the sensor. You should see the Windows "Add New Hardware Wizard" appear. Follow the instructions. When you see "What do you want Windows to do?", select "Search for the best driver for your device. (Recommended)". Depending on which versio n of the se nsor you ha ve, yo u may ha ve to go throug h t he Add Hardw are process several times for each of the functions the device supports (mouse, sensor, etc.) . When Windows asks you where to look for new drivers, you should select the "Floppy disk drives" and "CD-ROM drive" option. Have your Windows '98 CD in t he CD-ROM drive, and have this diskette inserted in a floppy drive. Once you have installed all the drivers, they will be loaded automatically every time the sensor is connected. 4.0 Verifying Installation: You can verify the installation and functioning of the USB driver in the following way: First make sure the device is attached. Open the System properties control panel by selecting Start:Settings:Control Panel:System. When the System Properties window appears, click on the "Device Manager" tab. Scroll down to "Scanning Device" and you should find "STMicroelectronics TouchChip Fingerprint Sensor" as one of the listed devices. Select this device and click on the "Properties" button. When the properties window appears, you should be able to see "This device is working properly" under the "Device Status" field of the "General" tab. Select the "Driver" tab, then click on "Driver File Details". You should see C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\usbscan.sys C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VMM32.VXD(ntkern.vxd) If you do not see this, try reinstalling the driver: Go back to the "System Properties: Device Manager" tab. Select the "STMicroelectronics TouchChip Fingerprint Sensor" and then hit the "Remove" button. Unplug the device and then plug it back in to restart the plug and play.
