Users Manual

In-Home Repeater User’s Manual / Installation Instructions You will find two antennas and an AC power transformer in your in-home repeater package. To achieve the best possible performance within your home, follow the instructions outlined below: • The In-Home Repeater will work best within a room that has the best signal strength coming from a cell tower. Have your cell phone on and with you as you test the different areas of the house where you would like to use the repeater. If your cell phone is not receiving any signal within a room, the In-Home Repeater will not be able to create a signal. The In-Home Repeater only is able to improve a signal that is already present. • Position the donor antenna (unit with suction cups and transmission cable) towards the top of the glass on a window in a room where you would like to improve an existing signal. The unit should be a minimum of 1-inch below the window frame to simplify removal of antenna from suction cups. Donor antenna should be positioned so that the transmission cable is coming out the bottom of the unit. • Connect the donor antenna to the re-rad antenna (larger unit with LED indicators) with the transmission cable. Position the re-rad antenna on the floor and off to the side of the donor antenna (FIGURE 1). Positioning of these two antennas is very important. Once you plug the re-rad antenna into your standard home outlet, the left- most LED should be green indicating the system is installed correctly. If the LED is either yellow or red, first confirm the distance between the two antennas is correct. If the distances are correct, make sure there are no physical obstructions (namely metal objects) that could cause interference near the two antennas. To achieve optimum performance this LED must be green. However, the system will operate at a reduced performance level if the LED is yellow. If the LED is red, try re-positioning the antennas. • The five other LEDs (right side) on the re-rad antenna indicate the receive strength from the base station. You should have 2 – 5 LEDs lit for the system to be operable. If at least 2 LEDs are not lit, you may want to move the In-Home Repeater to another location. Re-Rad Antenna/Cell Phone Initialization • After following the steps above, your antennas are positioned properly, the single, left-most LED is green or yellow and at least two of the five remaining LEDs are lit. You will now initialize your cell phone to the re-rad antenna. • Place a call on your cell phone to 800-523-6910, ext. 3737. While you listen to the recorded message, press the initialization button found on the back of the re-rad antenna (FIGURE 2). If initialization is successful, the left-most LED will flash green several times. If initialization failed, this same LED will flash red several times. Carefully watch this LED, as it will return to the original color (yellow or green) after initialization. • Tips to ensure initialization succeeds: o Confirm unit is plugged in. o Make sure no one else in the house is using a cell phone. o Confirm that your phone call is still active and try pushing initialization button again. Checklist: ⌧ In-Home Repeater must be in a room where you are already receiving a signal from a cellular base station. ⌧ Re-rad antenna operational LED (left-most) must be either green (best) or yellow (operable). ⌧ Signal strength LEDs (five indicators) must have at least two lit (operable). ⌧ Initialize In-Home Repeater by placing call on your cell phone and pushing initialization button on the back of the re-rad antenna while call is active. A series of green flashes indicates successful initialization. ⌧ Re-rad antenna should be installed to allow a minimum of 12” clearance from the unit in order to meet federal guidelines regarding RF radiation. Congratulations – Your In-Home Repeater is ready for use. Figure 1 Figure 2

RF Exposure Info

TRL Technologies, Inc. FCC ID: OEUBDA1900-1 SAR Test Report for TRL Technologies 1900MHz In-Home Repeater Model #BDA1900-1 FCC ID #OEUBDA1900-1 Prepared by: Ken Nelson, Electrical Engineering Manager, TRL Technologies Inc. TRL Technologies Inc. Product Safety Laboratory has reviewed the 1900MHz In-home Repeater System, FCC ID #OEUBDA1900-1, for the need to conduct SAR evaluation. Due to the design and installation of this product, it qualifies for the exclusion called out in 2.1091. The system consists of two directional antennas, a donor antenna and a re-rad antenna with a bi-directional amplifier between them. The donor antenna is mounted to a window, and it’s radiation pattern is directed towards the outside of the house. Due to the suction cups being used to mount the antenna, it is impossible to mount it backwards, so there is little concern regarding the donor antenna proposing any danger regarding exposure levels. The re-rad antenna is either mounted towards the bottom of a wall or is set on the floor, and its radiation pattern is directed towards the inside of the house. Transmitting devices that can be easily re- located such as the 1900MHz In-Home Repeater are considered mobile devices if they meet the 20cm seperation requirement. The system antenna’s are generally more than 30cm from the end user, as referenced in the Users / Installation manual. The 1900MHz In-Home Repeater has a maximum transmitted conducted power of 0.1W (+20dBm) in both directions. The antennas used in both the donor and re-rad units have a maximum gain of 7dBi. The cable loss to the donor antenna is 4dB, resulting in a total ERP of 0.2W (+23dBm). The cable loss to the re-rad is 0.5dB, resulting in a total ERP of 0.45W (+26.5dBm).

Output power is conducted. The antenna(s) used for this transmitter are to be fixed-mounted on indoor permanent structures providing a separation distance of at least 20cm from all persons during normal operation. The maximum radiated output power at each antenna must satisfy the MPE Categorical Exclusion Requirements of 2.1091. RF Exposure compliance may need to be addressed at the time of licensing as required by the responsible FCC Bureau(s), including antenna co-location requirements fo 1.1307(b)(3).
