SAT CORPORATION SRM RFID SYSTEM USERS GUIDE DOC 70108 REV A3/1/99Page 1 INTRODUCTION This document provides important information for using the SRM RFID System with Telxon PTC-2134 and PTC-2234 handheld computers. The information provided here does not apply to using any specific software programs. The SRM RFID System uses Texas Instruments Radio Frequency Identification System (TIRIS) technology. It emits low-level radio-frequency energy at 134.2KHz and receives signals from TIRIS transponders in the same frequency range. OPERATION The SRM RFID System is fully installed and configured on delivery. No user installation or tuning is required. Refer to your application software documentation for details on using the system. Following are general guidelines: ̧ The radio does not transmit except when initiated by the user. Read operations can be initiated by pressing the READ button on the SRM RFID Handle or through application software. ̧ Range is dependent on the relative orientation of the SRM RFID Handle and the transponder. Optimum range (5-6") is achieved when the edge of the RFID tag is visible through the opening in the handle. Range is worst when the tag and the handle are in the same plane. ̧ To achieve optimum performance, sight the RFID tag through the hole in the handle and hold the computer so that the handle is less than 6" from the tag. SAFETY INFORMATION The Telxon PTC-2234 with SRM RFID System has been investigated by Underwriters Laboratories for use in Class I, Division 2, Groups A,B,C and D Hazardous Locations. On the rear of the PTC-2234 unit under the battery, the following decal indicates that the unit is Listed with UL. TELXON CORPORATION DATA PROCESSING EQUIPMENT FOR USE IN HAZARDOUS LOCATIONS CLASS I DIVISION 2 GROUPS A,B,C, & D INPUT 15VDC 2.7A MAX 20BM USE ONLY BAT. PACK MODEL 24172-002 If this decal is not present, the unit is not approved for use in hazardous locations. The following instructions apply when using the UL Listed model in Division 2 hazardous locations: ̧ Do not connect any device or accessory to the PTC-2234 unless it is specifically approved for use in hazardous locations. ̧ The battery charger and cradle are not approved for use in hazardous locations. SAT CORPORATION SRM RFID SYSTEM USERS GUIDE DOC 70108 REV A3/1/99Page 2 ̧ At this time no devices are approved for connection to the Keyboard/Serial connector at the bottom of the unit. Do not connect a keyboard or any other device to this connector unless the area is known to be nonhazardous. ̧ Do not install or remove PCMCIA cards or the Bar Code Scan Module unless the area is known to be nonhazardous. ̧ Use only Bar Code Scan Module part number 19391-103. ̧ Use only Battery Pack part number 24172-002. ̧ Do not disassemble the PTC-2234 or modify it in any way. FCC NOTICE FCC ID: OFZ990001 This equipment contains an intentional radiator approved by the FCC under the FCC ID number shown above. This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) this device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. NOTE: This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the equipment is operated in a commercial environment. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instruction manual, may cause harmful interference in which case the user will be required to correct the interference at his own expense. NO MODIFICATIONS: Modifications to this device shall not be made without the written consent of SAT Corporation. Unauthorized modifications may void the authority granted under Federal Communications Commission Rules permitting the operation of this device.
