For these card KAI-LINK currently provides Device Drivers for MS Windows® 95/98/2000, Windows® NT 4.0,and Windows CE. Linux Drivers will be supported soon. KAI-LINK also provides tools for the configuration and firmware upgrade of the cards. These tools, as well as the installation procedure for the MS Windows 95/98/2000, MS Windows® NT4.0, operating systems are described in this document. Two pieces of software are needed, in order to install the adapter in a PCMCIA card or USB adapter slot of a PC and operate under an operating system. The first one is the driver, which provides the necessary mechanisms to the operating system in order to use the adapter as any other networking adapters. The driver communicates with the firmware using exchange of commands (Set MIB, Get MIB, Scan, Sync, etc.). The other piece of software needed is the code written on the MAC chip, which is responsible for the implementation of the IEEE 802.11b, and for the interface with driver. American Telecommunications Certification Body Inc. 6731 Whittier Ave, McLean, VA 22101 June 14, 2002 RE: Kai-Link Corporation FCC ID: OIBKWL-210 I have a few comments on this Application. 1.) Please provide a sample of the Label for this device. 2.) Please include the two-part label statement as described in 47CFR 15.19(a)(3) on the device. 3.) Please provide Information to User as described in 15.21 within the manual. 4.) The RF Exposure report quotes a safe MPE distance of 20cm. This is not appropriate for PCMCIA cards with built in integral antennas. Please note the correct MPE distance should be 2.5cm. Since the RF Exposure Evaluation is included inside the Test Report, please be sure to also correct this also. 5.) There is no RF Exposure information included in Manual. Please correct manual to show MPE distance and prohibition from co-location. 6.) Form 731 shows an upper frequency range of 2463MHz. With your permission, this will be changed to the standard 802.11 Ch. 11 frequency of 2462MHz. 7.) FYI: The FCC has eliminated the Processing Gain requirement for all 15.247 Spread Spectrum devices. A copy of this notice is attached to this email. 8.) Was the equipment rotated about three orthogonal planes for finding of maximum radiated emissions as required in ANSI C63.4? 9.) The Confidentiality Request covers only the Schematics. Please confirm that the Block Diagram is not considered Confidential by the Applicant as well. 10.) There is no radiated data showing compliance with the restricted bands provision of 15.205 especially the band below 2390MHz, and above 2483.5MHz. Both peak and average readings should be shown. I look forward to your response. Sincerely. William H. Graff President and Examining Engineer mailto: [email protected] The items indicated above must be submitted before processing can continue on the above referenced application. Failure to provide the requested information may result in application termination. Correspondence should be considered part of the permanent submission and may be viewed from the Internet after a Grant of Equipment Authorization is issued. Please provide Information to User as described in 15.21 within the manual. 2.) The RF Exposure report quotes a safe MPE distance of 2.5cm. However, there continues to be no prohibition from co-location of other transmitters or antennas as required by the Rules. Please add this to the Manual 3.) FYI: Radiated data showing compliance with the restricted bands provision of 15.205 especially the band below 2390MHz, and above 2483.5MHz must be done in both peak and average modes. Unless compliance can be demonstrated exclusively with Peak settings [1MHz RBW/1MHzVBW], average readings [1MHzRBW, 10HzVBW] will be required. It is recommended practice that average readings always be taken with peak during radiated band edge tests above 1GHz. I look forward to your response. Sincerely. William H. RF Exposure Evaluation According to FCC 1.1310: The criteria listed in the following table shall be used to evaluate the environment impact of human exposure to radio frequency (RF) radiation as specified in 1.1307(b) LIMITS FOR MAXIMUM PERMISSIBLE EXPOSURE (MPE) Frequency Range (MHz) Electric Field Strength (V/m) Magnetic Field Strength (A/m) Power Density (mW/cm 2 ) Average Time (Minutes) (A) Limits for Occupational/ Control Exposures 300-1500 -- -- F/300 6 1500-100,000 -- -- 5 6 (B) Limits for General Population/ Uncontrolled Exposures 300-1500 -- -- F/1500 6 1500-100,000 -- -- 1 30 F= Frequency in MHz 4.1. Friis Formula Friis transmission formula: Pd = (Pout*G)/(4*pi*r 2 ) Where Pd = power density in mW/cm 2 Pout = output power to antenna in mW G = gain of antenna in linear scale Pi = 3.1416 R = distance between observation point and center of the radiator in cm Pd id the limit of MPE, 1 mW/cm 2 . If we know the maximum gain of the antenna and the total power input to the antenna, through the calculation, we will know the distance r where the MPE limit is reached. 4.2. EUT Operation condition A software provided by client enabled the EUT to transmit and receive data at lowest, middle and highest channel individually.
