ii IMPORTANT! Even though a GPS can be connected to the unit, pressing ‘ALERT’ will NOT automatically transmit your GPS-based position. ALERT The ‘ALERT’ button is placed in the hook: Press ‘ALERT’ for 3 seconds to start the following sequence: 1. A call for Iridium’s ® special service will be issued from the Iridium terminal, even if another user has occupied the line. 2. Any other user of the Iridium system onboard will be cut off immediately. 3. The display will show ‘ALERT’. 4. The Iridium Network will route your call to the nearest Rescue Coordination Centre. 5. Valid subscription status is mandatory. If the user is in debt and the account is barred, “ALERT” will not work. Inform the RCC of: 1. Your name. 2. The identity of the vessel originating the call. 3. If possible, your position. 4. The reason for the call. 5. What needs to be done Future GMDSS Approval ‘ALERT’ will connect you directly to a Rescue Coordination Centre because the Iridium system as such has agreements with all separate RCC’s. In Japanese A1 and A2 areas Iridium has gained acknowledgement as a GMDSS partner. When Iridium gains its global GMDSS approval, which is expected to take place in 2003, you can have your equipment rebuilt so as to: • download new software enabling GMDSS distress calls and automatic transmission of a GPS-based position, and • replace the yellow ‘ALERT’ button by a red ‘DISTRESS’ button. Furthermore, a new operator’s manual will be issued including a description of the ‘DISTRESS’ functionality. Alert Call, see page ii. List of contents, see page 1. About this Manual This manual is for the daily user of the system. It provides instructions on how to operate both a telephone and a handset. Basically, the manual consists of two main parts: The first deals with simple operation, which includes e.g. making and answering calls. The second part describes the more advanced functions of the system. We recommended that you read the manual before using the equipment. Please note Any responsibility or liability for loss or damage in connection with the use of this product and the accompanying documentation is disclaimed. The information in this manual is furnished for informa- tional use only, is subject to change without notice, may contain errors or inaccuracies, and represents no commitment whatsoever. This agreement is governed by the laws of Denmark. Document no.: B4155GB8C/9940 Introduction We thank you for choosing SKANTI LEISURE MIP2000 for your Iridium ® communication. We are convinced that the Maritime Iridium Phone 2000- MIP2000 will serve you and fulfil your need for communication for many years to come. If, against our expectations, you experience any problems with the system, please contact your dealer, who will assist you or help you through our service partners. You are also more than welcome to visit our homepage which, among other information, contains product news and updates, new accessories and service information. The MIP 2000 is a single-channel Iridium ® satellite system designed for the harsh environment on board a leisure craft travelling around the world. The MIP 2000 complies with all relevant international requirements. The MIP 2000 consists of a compact Iridium Transceiver Unit (ITU 2000), a small Iridium Antenna Unit (IAU 2000), and one of two types of control units: an Iridium Control Unit Handset (ICUH 2000) or an Iridium Control Unit for Desk mounting (ICUD 2000). The Control Unit ICUH 2000/ICUD 2000 with display and splash- proof keypad is used for controlling the “black box” Transceiver Unit and the remote Antenna Unit facilitating easy installation. The MIP 2000 Iridium telephone offers both telephony and data transmission at 2,400 bit/s. Service is expected to open in the first quarter of the year 2000. Please complete and send the register form to Skanti Leisure, and we will keep you informed of this and other news regarding Iridium. A dedicated ‘Alert’ button for emergency situations is integrated in the Control Unit for dialling the nearest Iridium Gateway, which will route the call to any RCC (Rescue Co-ordination Centre) selected. The MIP 2000 system provides flexible installation: ·Up to 50 m between the Control Unit and the Transceiver Unit ·Up to 100 m between the Handset Control Unit and extra Handset Control Units ·Up to 30 m between the Transceiver Unit and the Antenna Unit, depending on cable type. The MIP 2000 standard power supply is 10-32V DC, optionally 110- 230V AC (external adaptor). Important! For FCC RF exposure compliance, the antenna must be installed with a minimum distance of 20 cm away from all persons.
Installation MIP 2000 2.8Installation of the Antenna One of the advantages of this equipment is the easy-to-handle, lightweight and rugged antenna. Because the IRIDIUM ® system is characterised by a good link margin, the antenna is a passive quadrifillar helix type, requiring no external power supply and consisting of only nonmoving parts. The following figures show the antenna and the two different mounting accessories available: The mounting bracket in fig. 1 can be used in two different ways - mounted on either a rail or a pole. The fitting in fig. 2 can be used at the top of a tube. Please note that it is necessary to mount the cable, and seal this connection securely before the antenna and fitting are mounted on the tube. Important! For FCC RF exposure compliance, the antenna must be installed with a minimum distance of 20 cm away from all persons. 2" pipe Four M4x10 Four M4 serrated lock washers Angle mounting bracket Four M4 washers Antenna Four M8 lock nuts and M8 washers Pipe clamp Two M8 U-bolts Four M4 serrated lock washers Four M8 lock nuts and M8 washers Four pieces M4x10 Angle mounting bracket Four M4 washers 2" pipe Two M8 U-bolts Antenna Pipe clamp 36623A Fig. 1Fig. 2

Introduction This report contains the result of tests performed and/or conducted by KTL-Arnhem KTL-Arnhem Utrechtseweg 310 6812 AR Arnhem The Netherlands KTL-Arnhem complies with the accreditation criteria for laboratories as described in the STERLAB Criteria which contains all of the criteria from EN 45001 and ISO/IEC guide 25 and the relevant criteria from ISO 9001. The accreditation covers the quality system of the laboratory as well as the specified activities described in the accreditation certificate bearing the accreditation number L021 and is granted on 30 November 1990 by the Dutch Council For Accreditation (RvA: Raad voor Accreditatie). An extended procedure for performing tests outside their permanent premises has been accepted by the board of STERLAB for accreditation. KTL-Arnhem is thereby allowed to conduct tests on any suitable site by regular KTL-Arnhem staff, using suitable equipment that is property of KTL-Arnhem or of a second party.
