Purpose This section of the manual provides installers with the information and step-by-step directions they will need to install the Local Status Monitoring Kit in the Pathworx TM Network Amplifier. Note this installation instruction is for upgraded LSM Kit order. Do not follow these instructions if LSM kit is ordered along with the Pathworx TM Network Amplifier. Notes, Stop, Cautions, Warnings Throughout this manual you may observe graphic markers that indicate special instructions, additional information, cautions or warnings. Locate these graphic markers as you read through this manual and follow carefully the instructions that accompany the graphic markers. Notes Stop Caution Warning WARNING: Do NOT operate or attempt to install the Local Status Monitor in wet weather. Moisture can cause short-term damage to the circuitry. Because the closed Network Amplifier unit is hermetically sealed, any moisture within the unit at the time of closure will remain in the unit. WARNING: Avoid the possibility of severe or fatal electrical shock. NEVER install the Local Status Monitor during wet or damp weather or when lightening is visible in or near your installation. Warning: In order to comply with FCC RF exposure requirements, this device must be installed in such a way as to ensure that a minimum separation distance of 20 cm is always maintained between the antenna and all persons P.N. Number XXXXXXX Page 8 of 10 RF tray metal cover Retainer clips Β½β Cover bolts Antenna Retainer clip The following steps are needed to be taken to install LSM kit as an upgrade to the existing Network amplifier. Step 1 β Loosen the 5/16 β 18 bolts holding the housing cover to base to open the housing cover. Step 2 β There are retainer clips on two hinge post. Remove the existing retainer clips located on the hinge post using a screw driver or other similar type of tool. Step 3 β Remove the housing cover. P.N. Number XXXXXXX Page 9 of 10 Verify components of the LSM kit. There should be a housing cover ( coated or uncoated) with closure bolts installed. LSM circuit board should be installed in the cover, along with an antenna and an interface cable. There should also be two replacement retainer clips included in the kit. Step 4 β Slide the new housing cover into the hinges where the previous housing cover was removed. Step 5 β Install the new retainer rings onto the hinge posts to retain the cover to the housing. Step 6 β Remove the RF tray metal cover by unscrewing the screws. Plug the interface cable to the 12 pin connector located near the Craft port after removing the cover. Reinstall the cover onto the tray. Make sure the interface cable is fit into the slot of the cover. Tighten the screws to 5 lb. β in. Local status monitor Interface cable 12-pin connector INSET P.N. June 27, 2000 Joe Dichoso Federal Communications Commission Equipment Authorization Division 7435 Oakland Mills Road Columbia, MD 21046 Dear Mr. Dichoso, We just recently received a grant for ADC Broadband Communications for FCC ID: OW8LSM01400 (Date of Grant 5/18/00). The Frequency Range specified on the grant was 2400.5 - 2479 MHz. This information was originally filled out and based upon the letter from ADC as specified in the report. They have two different channel sets that were specified as follows: System A frequencies are: 2400.5 + (channel # - 1) * 1 MHz range: 2400.5 - 2478.5 MHz System B frequencies are: 2401 + (channel # - 1) * 1 MHz range: 2401 - 2479 MHz After the submittal, they discovered that this information as provided was incorrect. It should have been System A frequencies are: 2400.5 + (channel # - 1) * 1 MHz range: 2401.5 - 2479.5 MHz System B frequencies are: 2401 + (channel # - 1) * 1 MHz range: 2402 - 2480 MHz Channel Range is from 2 to 80 This affected the frequency range as listed in the report. Therefore the frequency range specified should have been specified as 2401.5 - 2480. Please let me know what we need to do to get this corrected. Your help is greatly appreciated. The ADC Broadband Communications LSM is an upgrade kit that can be installed in an ADC Network Amplifier (an RF Amplifier installed on cable lines). The main purpose for the LSM is to become a two-way wireless link between the RF amplifier and a ground located hand held smart terminal (LST β Local Smart Terminal) with a portable LSM Controller so that technicians can monitor the network. The EUT is offered in two models, the LSM-01-U and the LSM-01-C. The difference between these two models is the housing cover that is supplied with the LSM, and is a factor of the RF amplifier that the unit is being installed in. The EUT is designed to operate on one of two different channel sets. Please refer to the following letter from ADC Broadband Communications. FCC ID: OW8LSM01400 SECTION 2 TESTS AND MEASUREMENTS FCC ID: OW8LSM01400 TEST AND MEASUREMENTS 2.1 Configuration of Tested System The sample was tested per ANSI C63.4, Methods of Measurement from Low-Voltage Electrical and Electronic Equipment in the Range of 9 kHz to 40 GHz (1992). Conducted and radiated emissions data were taken with the test receiver or spectrum analyzer's resolution bandwidth adjusted to 9 kHz and 120 kHz, respectively. All measurements are peak unless stated otherwise. The video filter associated with the spectrum analyzer was off throughout the evaluation process. A block diagram of the tested system is shown in Figure 1. Test configuration photographs for spurious and digital device emissions are shown in Figure 2. The sample used for testing was received by U.S. Technologies on January 10, 2000 in good condition. 2.2 Test Facility Testing was performed at US Tech's measurement facility at 3505 Francis Circle, Alpharetta, GA. This site has been fully described and submitted to the FCC, and accepted in their letter marked 31040/SIT. Additionally this site has also been fully described and submitted to Industry Canada (IC), and has been approved under file number IC2982. 2.3 Test Equipment Table 2 describes test equipment used to evaluate this product. 2.4 Modifications The following modifications were made by ADC Broadband Communications in order to bring the EUT into compliance with FCC Part 15 limits for the transmitter portion of the EUT and the Class A Digital Device Requirements: 1) A timing change was made on the firmware so that synthesizer enable turn βonβ occurred 2 msec before the RF transmit dc supply turn βonβ. Also, a RF transmit dc supply turn βoffβ was made to occur 1 msec before the synthesβ¦
