FCC ID#: PL6-EFGH-BTS1-38 Install Manual American Telecommunications Certification Body, Inc. 6731 Whittier Avenue Suite C110 McLean, VA 22101 RE: Certification Application FCC ID. #: PL6-EFGH-BTS1-38 The installation manual for this device is larger than 50 Megabytes therefore is impractical for digital applications. For the purpose of this application Navini Networks is only providing the regulatory information section of the manual. We understand that the full manual may be requested at which time we will ship a paper copy to the requestor. Thank you for your attention to this matter, /BS/ Brian Sutton Regulatory/Compliance Engineer Navini Networks 2240 Campbell Creek Blvd. Suite 110 Richardson, TX 75080 972-852-4217
American Telecommunications Certification Body Inc. 6731 Whittier Ave, McLean, VA 22101 September 24, 2002 RE: FCC ID: PL6-EFGH-BTS1-38 Attention: Brian Sutton I have a few comments on this Application. 1 The internal photos are unclear and unreadable. Please provide internal photos of top and bottom of all boards that are clear. As a guide, you should be able to read the ICs and you should be able to see traces on the board as well a be able to read the component identification on the boards. If the boards are too large, then one photo of the whole board and then break up the board photos into quadrants. 2 A block diagram has not been provided. Please provide a block diagram. If the block diagram exists in another document, please extract this and provide the block diagram as a separate document. IF you wish the Block Diagram to be confidential, please revise the request for confidentiality to include this Block Diagram. 3 Please provide a complete installation manual. If the manual is in excess of 4 meg, please break it into sections that are no more than 4meg file sizes. 4 The FCC requires that the test setup photos are to be separate files. Please extract the setup photos and make a separate document file. 5 Please provide the Parts list. 6 Please provide the tune up procedures. 7 The Summary of results states that the device is compliant to the 33dBW Max EIRP. The limit is 33dBW + 10 (log BW/6) or 32.2. However, while the MPE Calculations state 27dBi as the antenna used to calculate MPE and while conducted power is stated to be 38.2dBm, your report has not specified what the gain of the antenna used to determine compliance to this limit. While it may be obviously compliant, the EIRP limitations must be addressed using the maximum antenna gain that will be used with this device. Please revise the report or otherwise provide this EIRP information. 8 FYI β on pages 28 and 31 of the report the reference is incorrect. You have EIA/TIA630 but it should be EIA/TIA603. No action needed. Dennis Ward mailto:[email protected] The items indicated above must be submitted before processing can continue on the above referenced application. Failure to provide the requested information may result in application termination. Correspondence should be considered part of the permanent submission and may be viewed from the Internet after a Grant of Equipment Authorization is issued. Please do not respond to this correspondence using the email reply button. In order for your response to be processed expeditiously, you must submit your documents through the AmericanTCB.com website. Also, please note that partial responses increase processing time and should not be submitted. Any questions about the content of this correspondence should be directed to the sender.
Subject: RE: 9-24-02 PLS-EFGH-BTS1-38 request for info Date: Wed, 25 Sep 2002 13:53:11 -0500 From: brian sutton <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Thanks Dennis, I am uploading the docs as you suggested. I have included parts list for the Syn, PA, and If cards. I tried uploading before but I do not believe they made it. I will do it again. Note I am adding the block diagram and the parts list to the conf. letter. Again, thank you for your attention. Let me know if you need anything else, but I believe this should do it! Thanks, Brian Sutton Regulatory Engineer Navini Networks 2240 Campbell Creek Blvd. Suite 110 Richardson, TX 75082 P: 972-852-4217 F: 214-261-6382 M: 214-498-6879 www.Navini.com [email protected] -----Original Message----- From: Dennis Ward [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, September 25, 2002 1:16 PM To: brian sutton Subject: Re: 9-24-02 PLS-EFGH-BTS1-38 request for info Hi Brian These manuals do get kinda large don't they. I had to ask because the FCC says they want the complete manual unless it is not practical. I think when the manual is over 8 meg we can justify using a cover letter stating the size of the manual is too large for digital applications. Up to 8 meg they should be provided in two or more files smaller than 3.8 meg each. If your manual is larger than 8 meg, let me know by providing a letter stating that the manual is available upon request. Be aware however, that the FCC may ask for the manual anyway. At that time you can mail the paper copy to them. I can accept the PA parts list. Again, the FCC may ask for the whole parts list. At that time you can then provide it via digital upload. Remember, if any of this information (manual excluded) is confidential, you will have to provide a revised Confidentiality letter. Thanks Dennis. brian sutton wrote: > > > Dennis, > > Thanks for the quick response. I only have a couple of > questions. > > (1) Do we really need the entire install manual. FCC ID#: PL6-EFGH-BTS1-38 Description Output Power = 38dBm = 6.31 Watts Frequency Range: 2596MHz to 2686MHz (EFG&H MMDS, ITFS, and MDS channels) Equipment Code: TNB Emission Designator: 5M00F9W Navini Networks Wireless Integrated Solution (WINS) BTS consists of two major parts: RF front-end unit that will be placed on the tower top, and tower base unit (see Fig.1). The RF front-end unit contains an antenna assembly of 8 dipole antennas, a calibrator board for calibration, and a distributor for T/R switch signal and RF _LO distribution. As per the FCC requirement each transmitter has its own power amplifier - Multiple transmitters do not share a common amplifier. Tower base unit contains 8 transceivers, an IF module, a synthesizer, and base band modules. The distance between RF front-end unit and tower base units varies from 10 ft to 200 ft depending on the deployment scenarios. The modulated transmit and receive IF signals flow between the tower top and tower base units. The IF signal center frequency is 140MHz. During the transmission period, a total of 8 sets of I and Q data are generated from the base band modules where they have been weighted for the purpose of beam forming. They are then fed into the IF module and quadrature modulated. The resulting IF spectrum is 5 MHz wide centered at 140MHz. The signals are then up-converted to 2.6GHz MMDS/ITFS/MDS band and amplified. Finally the signals are sent to the antennas and radiated into the air. Each of the signals is a separate signal. Multiple signals may be from/for one user or one signal from/for each user. They are dynamically configurable. During the receive period, 8 sets of signals received from 8 antennas are first amplified and then down-converted to the 140MHz IF frequency. Then they are sent to the IF module and quadrature demodulated to 8 sets of I and Q data, which are then sent to the base band unit for further processing. The synthesizer generates the RF_LO and IF_O signals and distributes them to IF and RF front-end modules. It also facilitates the calibration by generating the calibration signals. The base band unit controls the Tx/Rx switch system timing. The Navini Networks BTS is almost identical to conventional spread spectrum devices except that we transmit the sum of multiple spread spectrum signals modulated (or spread) on multiple pseudo random codes. Our modulation method is analogous to that of IEEE 802.11b, which modulates 8 co-channel signals with 8 CCK sequences.
