This phon e mod el has b een ce rtified in comp liance with the government’s r equirements for e xposur e to radio waves. This mobile phone model T310 h as bee n desi gned to comply with applicable safety requirements for e xposur e to radio waves. Your wireless ph one is a radio transmitter and receiver. It is designed to not e xceed th e limits for exposure to radio frequen cy (RF) energy set by th e Federal Com munications Com mission (FCC) of the U.S. Gove rnment. T hese limits estab lish permitted levels of RF e nergy for the ge neral popul ation. The gu idelines a re based on standar ds that were developed by international scientific organizations through periodic and t horough e valuation of scientific studies. The stand ards i nclude a saf ety margin designed to assure the saf ety of a ll perso ns, re gardless of ag e and health. The exposur e stan dard for w ireless mobile phones em ploys a unit of measure ment know n as the Speci fic Abso rption Rate, o r SAR. The SAR limit set by the FCC i s 1.6 W/kg.* Te sts fo r SAR ar e conducted using sta ndard ope rating positions accepte d by th e FCC with the phone transm itting at its highest certified power level in all tested fr equency ban ds. Al thoug h the SAR is determined at the highest certified power level, the actual SAR level of the phone while operating can be well below the m aximum value. This is because the phone is designed to operate at multiple power levels so as to use only the power required to reach the netw ork. In general, the closer you ar e to a w ireless base sta tion anten na, the lower the p ower output. Before a phone model is available for sa le to the public, it must be tested an d certi fied to the F CC that it does not exceed the limit established b y the g overnment-adopted requirement for safe exposure. The tests ar e performed in positions and l ocations (i.e., at th e ear and worn on the body) as re quired by th e FCC fo r each model. The highest SAR va lue as reported to the FCC fo r this model phone when tested for use a t the ear is 0.57 W/kg and w hen worn on the bo dy is 0.53 W/kg. Body w orn measurements are made while the ph one is in use an d worn on th e body with an Ericsson or Sony Er icsson accesso ry. Accessor ies can significantly affect SAR com pliance. The Federal Com munication Commission requires that some manufactur ers' accessor ies be tested, an d Sony Eri csson h as done so with respect to its products. Sony Eri csson has only tested Ericsson and Sony Eri csson original accessories in conjunction with Sony Eri csson pho nes. It is therefore recommended that only Ericsson and Sony Ericsson original acce ssories be used in conjunction with Sony Ericsson phones. The FCC has g ranted an Equipment Author ization for this model phone w ith all reported SAR levels evaluated as in compliance w ith the F CC RF exposur e guidelines. While there may be differences bet ween the SAR levels of var ious pho nes, all mobile phones g ranted an FCC equ ipment autho rization meet the gover nment requirement for safe exposure. SAR i nformation on th is model phon e is on file with the FCC and can be fo und u nder the Di splay Gran t secti on of http://www.fcc.gov/oet/f ccid after searching on FCC ID PY71130602. Additional information on Speci fic Absor ption Rates ( SAR) can be found on the Cel lular Telecommunications & Inter net Associ ation (CTIA) web-site at http:// phone facts.ne t/ . * In the Uni ted States an d Canada, the SAR limit for mob ile phones used by th e publi c is 1.6 watts/ kilogram (W/kg) averaged over one gram of tissue. T he standar d incorporates a margin of sa fety to give additional pro tection for the pub lic and to account for any variations in measu rements. AE/LZT 108 4721/8 R3A

Introduction and scope It is an Sony Ericsson policy that all RF transmitting product models shall comply with relevant recommendations, standards and regulations on human exposure to electromagnetic fields. In the reference section below, the most important RF safety guidelines are listed [7-13]. If no national standard or regulation is available in a country, the international recommendation from ICNIRP [7] shall be applied. The RF safety guidelines specify basic restrictions and reference levels. In the frequency range of interest for mobile communications, the basic restrictions are expressed as Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) limits and the reference levels as field strength or power density limits. The reference levels are provided for the purpose of simple measurements of compliance with the basic restrictions, and they are primarily applicable in the far-field region of a RF source. Measured values greater than the reference levels do not necessarily mean that the basic restrictions are exceeded. In the near-field region of mobile communication devices (handsets), field strength values exceeding the reference levels may be observed. Compliance with the basic SAR restrictions has therefore to be verified. SAR (W/kg) is a measure of the rate of RF energy absorption in tissue. The localized SAR limits depend on whether the device is classified for use by the general public (uncontrolled environment) or workers (controlled environment). Mobile communication equipment are usually used by the general public and should consequently be in compliance with the general public limits, which are 2.0 W/kg averaged in 10 gram of tissue in the ICNIRP guidelines [7] and 1.6 W/kg averaged in 1 gram in the ANSI/IEEE standard [8]. Because of the lower limit and the smaller averaging mass, the ANSI/IEEE limit is slightly more conservative than the ICNIRP limit. The averaging times are also different, 6 minutes in the ICNIRP recommendations and 30 minutes in the IEEE guidelines. This document describes the SAR measurement procedures used by the SAR testing laboratories of Sony Ericsson. SAR measurement standardization is currently evolving. Many standards and guidelines have recently been released [1, 2] or are in progress (e.g. [3, 4]). Sony Ericsson is firmly committed to using the latest technology and the latest standards to ensure that the SAR measurements are of the highest quality. 2. References SAR measurement standards and guidelines The following standards and guidelines are used as a basis for the SAR measurement specification described herein. Although these documents are well harmonized, some differences exis…
