Application For more information on designing, installing and using radioMiro TM systems, and for expert technical help, visit our web site at www.passandseymour.com/miro Use the radioMiro TM room remote control in a room with any number of radioMiro TM dimming or non-dim devices, normally including one or more wall-mounting radioMiro TM room preset controllers. The radioMiro TM room remote control gives you fingertip control of individual circuits, presets and overall room light level, in a convenient unit that looks and feels good on the coffee table or by the bed! Note: for whole-house control, use a radioMiro TM whole-house preset controller or handheld remote. Batteries Figure 1 1. Remove the battery cover in the base of the unit, and install the three AAA cells provided in accordance with the diagram in the battery compartment. 2. Replace the battery cover and press any button – the status LED will be green if the batteries are good 3. When the batteries start to lose their charge, the status LED will blink red, indicating that new batteries are required. 4. Note that to conserve battery life, the remote ‘goes to sleep’ when it has not been used for one minute, and the status LED goes out. Pressing any button while the remote is asleep causes the remote to ‘wake up’, ready for use. Get Set... Configuration Figure 2 To prevent interference between neighboring systems, radioMiro TM devices must acquire a unique house ID before use. It’s simple! 1. With all devices installed and energized, check that every radioMiro TM device is showing a yellow LED. If not, check that the circuit breaker is on and that the device is correctly installed. 2. All devices in a home must be ‘bound’ to the same home ID. For a new radioMiro TM installation, simultaneously press and hold the top and bottom (Ú) of any device paddle for 2 seconds. Its LED flashes yellow, indicating that it has acquired a unique House ID. 3. Check that all other radioMiro TM device LEDs are flashing green, indicating that they have acquired the same House ID. 4. Return to the first device, and press Ú again for 2 seconds. All device LEDs revert to green, indicating that house binding is complete. Note: if you’re adding the device to an existing radioMiro TM installation, simply press and hold Ú on any previously bound device for 2 seconds to start the procedure, verify that the newly added device LED is flashing green, indicating that it has acquired the House ID. Press and hold Ú for 2 seconds again on the same previously installed device to terminate. Handheld devices will not respond to a binding signal when they are not in use. Need Graphic - Battery installation placeholder Status LED 2 1 3, 5, 6 Either wake them up by pressing any button prior to binding, or add them to the House later. Room Setup Figure 3, Room Binding When all the radioMiro TM devices in the room are successfully bound to the House ID, it’s time to bind them together as a Room. The procedure is the same, but it must start from a radioMiro TM room preset controller. 1. Go to the radioMiro TM room remote, and press Ú For 2 seconds. Its LED starts flashing yellow, and all the others start flashing green. 2. Go to each other radioMiro TM device in the room and press Ú for 2 seconds. The LED of each device starts flashing yellow as you add it to the Room. Be sure to bind every radioMiro TM device in the room. You only need to bind one member of a Group into the room. 3. Return to the room remote and press Ú for 2 seconds to terminate Room binding. All Room devices revert to green status LEDs. 4. You can repeat the procedure any time you need to change Room configuration. Use Ú (2 sec) to toggle devices in and out of the Room. Flashing yellow LED = in, flashing green LED = out.) Important – when you’ve bound the remote to a Room, it belongs to that Room only. You cannot share a remote between two Rooms. Go! Use Figure 4 Figure 5 First, make yourself comfortable! You may as well get used to controlling your environment with your feet up! Controlling Individual Devices You can select and control any radioMiro TM device already bound in to the room (see previous section). 1. Press the seek button – each time you press it, the radioMiro TM remote selects the next radioMiro TM device bound in to the room. If it’s a lighting circuit, the light will momentarily blink, telling you which circuit you are controlling. If it’s a non- dim device or a fan control, the device status LED will flash. Either way, you know which device you’ve selected. 2. Having selected a device to control, use the raise/lower rocker, as follows: Touch × momentarily to fade the circuit to its last-used level (or full bright if the circuit is already on) Press and hold × to increase the present level Touch Ø momentarily to fade the circuit to OFF Press and hold Ø to decrease the present level 3. When you select a radioMiro TM fan control from the room remote, the five preset buttons act as fan speed controllers – from fastest at the top to stop at the bottom. Recording and Recalling Scenes 4. Use the radioMiro TM remote to record and play back scenes. Note that the five scenes available from the remote are the same five scenes that you access from the room preset controller. 5. Northwest EMC TCB Compliance Opinion Revision 1/3/03 WATT0009 Information about the Applicant Company Name The Watt Stopper, Inc. Address 6120 Paseo Del Norte, Suite 1-2 City, State, Zip Carlsbad, CA 92009 Requested By Bertrand Debever Job Number WATT0009 Model MRH6G/MRH5G FCC ID Q4B-TDHHR Agent The Watt Stopper, Inc., Bertrand Debever Approval Type Certification Equipment Type Low Power Unlicensed Transmitter Rule Part 15.247 Overview The equipment is the Watt Stopper MRH5G and MRH6G Handheld remote control of room lighting operating in the 902-928 MHz band as a 15.247(f) hybrid system. Both the MRH5G and the MRH6G use the same radio board, only the plastic enclosure is different, therefore only one device was actually tested. All products use a fully integrated transceiver, the CC1000 from Chipcon, almost no external components are needed. The approval for this type of device is being approved as outlined in the FCC Public Notice of May 16, 2002. Recommendation All items have been resolved and completed to my satisfaction; therefore I recommend this application for approval. August 14, 2003 _______________________________ ______________ Dean Ghizzone, President Date Northwest EMC TCB Compliance Opinion Revision 1/3/03 WATT0009 Findings and Resolution Item The client cover letter specifically requests approval under FCC Part 15.249, yet all testing and applications reflect 15.247. Please provide the proper reference in the cover letter. Resolution The client has provided an updated letter with corrections. Item Only Front view photos were provided of the EUT exterior, please provide photos of the rear of the EUT exterior. Resolution The client has provided additional photographs. Item Internal photos have only been provided with one view. Please provide photos that show both sides of the PCB as well as both internal views of the enclosure. Resolution The client has provided additional photographs. Item A hybrid system uses both digital modulation and frequency hopping techniques at the same time on the same carrier. This is similar to the combination DTS/FHSS system described above in the first example but the system is subject to slightly different standards. As indicated in Section 15.247(f), a hybrid system must comply with the power density standard of 8 dBm in any 3 kHz band when the frequency hopping function is turned off. The transmission also must comply with a 0.4 second/channel maximum dwell time when the hopping function is turned on. There is no requirement for this type of hybrid system to comply with the 500 kHz minimum bandwidth normally associated with a DTS transmission; and, there is no minimum number of hopping channels associated with this type of hybrid system. However, the hopping function must be a true hopping system, as described in Section 15.247(a)(1). The specific requirements in Section 15.247(a)(1) are: 1) A minimum channel separation. 2) Pseudorandom hop sequence. 3) Equal use of each frequency. 4) Receiver matching bandwidth and Synchronization. The additional requirements in Section 15.247 for a hybrid transmitter include the requirements the 1 watt output limit and RF safety requirements in Section 15.247(b) and the spurious emission limits of Section 15.247(c). Specifically, please describe how you meet the requirements of being a "true hopping system". Please describe how you meet the Pseudorandom hop sequence, Equal use of each frequency, and the receiver matching bandwidth and Synchronization. Resolution The client has provided updated information supporting the requirements above. In addition, we requested and received confirmation from Joe Dichoso of the FCC confirming this equipment meets the requirements outlined above and in the requirements. Compliance with 47 CFR 15.247(b)(5) “Systems operating under the provisions of this section shall be operated in a manner that ensures that the public is not exposed to radio frequency energy levels in excess of the Commission's guidelines. See § 1.1307(b)(1) of this chapter.” The EUT is a handheld remote that controls room lighting and operates in the 902-928 MHz band as a 15.247(f) hybrid system. Although not typical, it is small enough to be placed into a large coat pocket. Therefore, it can be considered a portable transmitter per 47 CFR 2.1093(b). The antenna is a PCB etch internal to the unit and therefore permanently attached. The antenna has a gain of 2.0 dBi. The maximum peak conducted output power is 2.1mW. The maximum peak power is 3.4 mW (EIRP) for FCC ID: Q4B-TDHHR. The transmit frequency is 904.86 to 924.87 MHz, therefore the EUT does not require routine SAR evaluation per “TCB Exclusions List”, footnote 3 (dated July 17, 2002). See below: The exposure category is “General Population”. The distance is < 2.5 cm. Therefore the “Low Threshold” is 64.9 mW (EIRP) – above which routine SAR evaluation would be required. Since the maximum peak power of the EUT is 3.4 mW (EIRP), routine SAR evaluation is not required. The applicant’s handheld remote, FCC ID: Q4B-TDHHR, is compliant with the requirements of 15.247(b)(5).
