Introduction 1.1. General Congratulations on your purchase of the WaveIP GigAccess™ OFDM 900 self-install Business/Residential Subscriber Unit (RSU). This document describes how to install and use your subscriber unit to obtain wireless high-speed Internet access. You can connect your RSU both to a computer and to a local area network (LAN) through the integrated two ports. 1.2. GigAccess TM OFDM 900 System Overview GigAccess TM OFDM 900 is WaveIP’s wireless point-to-multipoint broadband communication system. The basic subsystem – a Sector, consists of an AU (Access Unit) and up to 128 Subscriber Units (SUs) Each with full-duplex communication SUs and the WAN via the AU. Figure 1-1 depicts a general description of a typical sector in the GigAccess™ OFDM 900 system. Before You Start 1) Make sure your computer is equipped with an Ethernet Network Interface (NIC) 2) Make sure your computer is set up to automatically obtain an IP address (See 0). 3) Select the appropriate location for the RSU: • Make sure you are operating the RSU in a room near an outside window. • Locate the RSU in such a way that the antenna side will be directed towards your service provider (AU direction). • Obtain a clear line of site to the AU as much as possible - avoid any physical obstacles, which may block the signal. • Your RSU comes with a 1.5m category-5 Ethernet cable. If you choose to place the RSU. If you purchase a longer cable, make sure the cable is a category-5 Ethernet cable with RJ-45 connector on each side. 3.3. Installation The installation process should follow the following steps: 1) Connect the CAT5 Ethernet cable from the RSU data port to your PC NIC. Note that your RSU consists two Ethernet ports, so you can connect your PC to either of them, or to connect two PCs each PC to different Ethernet connector. 2) Connect the power supply to the AC wall socket and to the RSU DC power port. WARNING! Use only with the supplied Power Supply adapter 3) Align the RSU until you get the maximum receive signal from your service provider. Best received indication when maximum “Received Power Indication leds” are light. Check both vertical and horizontal polarization and select the polarization that gives you the best receiving power. The RSU antenna polarization must be the same as in the AU antenna. In most applications, the preferred orientatio…

RSU Setup The RSU installation steps are depicted below: 1) Connect the CAT5 Ethernet cable between the RSU and your PC NIC. Note that your RSU has two Ethernet ports. You may connect your PC to either one of the ports. Optionally you may connect two PCs to the RSU, which will then acts as a switch for those two PCs. 2) Connect the supplied power adapter to the RSU power jack. WARNING! Use only the supplied Power Supply adapter 3) Connect the power supply to the AC wall socket . 4) Align the RSU until you get the maximum received signal, i.e. Maximum Received Signal Indicator Lights. Check both vertical and horizontal polarization by changing the RSU orientation. 5) The RSU will automatically acquire the radio channel of the AU. • Verify that the Air link led flashes (green led on the Ethernet connector). Indicates Air Link to the AU. • Verify that the Ethernet link LED lights when the PC is connected (yellow led on the Ethernet connector). 2.3. Safety 1. The basic subsystem is composed of a single sector, which consists of an Access Unit (AU) and up to 250 Subscriber Units (SU). Each sector is a stand-alone communication network operating on a star topology with a gateway to the WAN, which allows two-way communication between the SUs and the WAN via the AU. A Sector may be extended by sub sectors, which are consecutive to the SUs within the sector. GigAccess™ include a Base Controller (BC). The BC is a PC running GigAccess™ Network Management System (NMS) application that monitors and controls the AUs and their corresponding SUs. The NMS provides SNMP integration, thus connecting with already existing NMS that service providers might have. Its main purpose is to configure the AUs and SUs with SLA (Service Level Agreement). Once the AU is configured, the configuration is stored in the AU and the sector can run autonomously without the need of a BC (stand alone configuration). AU AU Switch/Router SU SU SU SU Base Controller (Option) WAN Figure 2: Typical sector in GigAccess™ OFDM System The sector uses a single radio channel frequency with a 20 MHz bandwidth, which carries up to 36 Mbps data throughput. The system is a frame-based system, meaning the time dimension is divided into small periods called frames. Each frame is divided into two parts: downstream part (traffic passing from the AU to the SUs) and upstream part (traffic passing from the SUs to the AU). The Time Domain Duplex (TDD) technique is utilized to divide the bandwidth periodically based on the frame size. The portion of the frame, which is allocated to the upstream traffic, is divided between the SUs in the time domain using TDMA (Time Division Multiplex Access) technique. All the divisions are done dynamically thus allowing the SUs to share the channel capacity in a very efficient way. Figure 3: GigAccess™ OFDM 900 Outdoor Unit GigAccess™ OFDM 900 September 2005 Page 3 of 3 GigAccess ™ OFDM MAC layer is based on IEEE 802.16 MAC standard with additional proprietary attributes, which allow for special features such as Consecutive AP ™ . GigAccess ™ OFDM network layer enables routing and QoS queuing of traffic based on classification of packets using information in layers 2, 3 & 4-7. In certain instances, QoS queuing can be done using packet information (priority defined by the management). GigAccess ™ OFDM leverages Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) technology to deliver high data rates, high spectral efficiency in addition to immunity to interference and line of site boundaries via patent pending Consecutive AP ™ technology, delivering data burst rates of up to 36 Mbps. GigAccess ™ OFDM ensures always-on connectivity to full range of IP-based services, including fast Internet, High Quality VoIP and Video. GigAccess ™ provides an instant and independent infrastructure, which is immediately deployable (self installed) with low infrastructure construction and operating costs. In case of Non-Line-Of-Sight (NLOS) between the AU and the SU due to obstacles such as tall buildings or mountains, a consecutive sector may be used. In this scenario, the SU Ethernet output feed a consecutive AU, which is used as a router and transmits the input data over the obstacle as shown in figure below.
