Installing the IEEE 802.11g Base Station Hardware Description The Base Station can be connected to the Internet or to a remote site using its WAN port. It can be connected directly to your PC or to a local area network using any of the Fast Ethernet LAN ports. Although access speed to the Internet is determined by your service type and the modem type connected to the Wireless Router, data passing between the devices connected to your local area network can run up to 100 Mbps over the Fast Enternet ports. The Base Station includes an LED display on the front panel for system power and port indications that simplifies installation and network troubleshooting. It also provides four RJ-45 LAN ports and one RJ-45 WAN port on the rear panel. • Four Ethernet ports for connection to a 10BASE-T/ 100BASE-TX Ethernet Local Area Network (LAN). These ports can auto-negotiate the operating speed to 10/100 Mbps, the mode to half/full duplex, and the pin signals to MDI/MDI-X (i.e., allowing these ports to be connected to any network device with straight-through cable). These ports can be connected directly to a PC or to a server equipped with an Ethernet network interface card, or to a networking device such as an Ethernet hub or switch. • One RJ-45 port for connection to a DSL or cable modem (WAN). This port also auto-negotiates operating speed to 10/100 Mbps, the mode to half/full duplex, and the pin signals to MDI/MDI-X. The following figure shows the components of the Wireless Figure 1. Front and Rear Panels System Requirements • Internet access from your local telephone company or Internet Service Provider (ISP) using a DSL modem or cable modem. • A PC using a fixed IP address or dynamic IP address assigned via DHCP, as well as a gateway server address and DNS server address from your service provider. • A computer equipped with a 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps, or 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet card, or a USB-to-Ethernet converter. • TCP/IP network protocol installed on each PC that needs to access the Internet. • A Java-enabled web browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or above, Firefox 1.0 or Mozilla 1.7 installed on one PC at your site for configuring the Base Station. Connect the System The Base Station can be positioned at any convenient location in your office or home. No special wiring or cooling requirements are needed. You should, however comply with the following guidelines: • Keep the Base Station away from any heating devices. • Do not place the Base Station in a dusty or wet environment. You should also remember to turn off the power, remove the power cord from the outlet, and keep your hands dry when you install the Base Station. Basic Installation Procedure 1. Connect the LAN: Connect the Base Station to your PC, or to a hub or switch. Run Ethernet cable from one of the LAN ports on the rear of the Base Station to your computer’s network adapter or to another network device. You may also connect the Base Station to your PC (using a wireless client adapter) via radio signals. 2. Connect the WAN: Use an Ethernet …

RF Exposure Test Report for Arcadyan Technology Corporation SNB6500 Equipment : Wireless Base Station 11g True Turbo Trade Name : Philips Model No. : SNB6500 FCC ID : RAXWG4005E Filing Type : Certification Applicant : Arcadyan Technology Corporation 4F, No. 9, Park Avenue II, Science-based Industrial Par, Hsinchu 300, Taiwan Without written approval of SPORTON International Inc., the test report shall not be reproduced except in full. SPORTON International Inc. 6F, No.106, Sec. 1, Hsin Tai Wu Rd., Hsi Chih, Taipei Hsien, Taiwan, R.O.C. Document No.: 533106 RF Exposure Test Report Date: Apr. 18, 2005 FCC ID: RAXWG4005E Sporton International Inc. Maximum Permissible Exposure Test Report for SNB6500 1.0 Introduction The report has been prepared on behalf of Arcadyan Technology Corporation SNB6500 to show compliance with the RF Exposure. 1.1 Requirements Three different categories of transmitters are defined by the FCC in OET Bulletin 65. These categories are fixed installation, mobile and portable and are defined as follows: Fixed installation: fixed location means that the device, including its antenna, is physically secured at a permanent location and is not able to be easily moved to another location. Additionally, distance to humans form the antenna is maintained to at least 2 meters. Mobile Devices: a mobile device is defined as a transmitting device designed to be used in other than fixed locations and to be generally used in such a way that a separation distance of at least 20 centimeters is normally maintained between the transmitter’s radiating structures and the body of the user or nearby persons. Transmitters designed to be used by consumers or workers that can be easily re-located are considered mobile devices if they meet the 20 centimeter separation requirement. The FCC rules for evaluating mobile devices for RF compliance are found in 47 CFR 2.1091. Portable Devices: a portable device is defined as a transmitting device designed to be used so that the radiating structure(s) of the device is/are within 20 centimeters of the body of the user. Portable device requirements are found in Section 2.1093 of the FCC’s Rules (47 CFR 2.1093) For this test report the Arcadyan Technology Corporation SNB6500 is being done as a mobile device and the MPE is evaluated at the 20cm test distance. The FCC also categorizes the use of the device as based upon the user’s awareness and ability to exercise control over his or her exposure. The two categories defined are Occupational/Controlled Document No.: 533106 RF Exposure Test Report Date: Apr. 18, 2005 FCC ID: RAXWG4005E Sporton International Inc. Exposure and General Population/Uncontrolled Exposure. These two categories are defined as follows: Occupational/controlled Exposure: In general, occupational/controlled exposure limits are applicable to situation in which persons are exposed as a consequence of their employment, who have been made fully aware of the potential for exposure. Awareness of the potential for RF exposure in a workplcae or similar environment can be provided through specific training as part of a RF safety program. If appropriate, warning signs and labels can also be used to establish such awareness by providing prominent information on the risk of potential exposure and instructions on methods to minimize such exposure risks. General Population/Uncontrolled Exposure: The general population / uncontrolled exposure limits are applicable to situations in which the general public may be exposed or in which persons who are exposed as a consequence of their employment may not be made fully aware of the potential for exposure or cannot exercise control over their exposure. Members of the general public would come under this category when exposure is not employment-related; for example, in the case of a wireless transmitter that exposes persons in its vicinity. Warning labels placed on low-power consumer devices such as cellular telephones are not considered sufficient to allow the device to be considered under the occupational/controlled category, and the general population/uncontrolled exposure limits apply to these devices. Since there are no warnings or training associated with this unit and it can be used by anyone, Wireless Base Station 11g True Turbo is evaluated to the General Population / Uncontrolled Exposure limits. 1.2 Radio Frequency Radiation Exposure Evaluation According to 1.1310 of the FCC rules, the power density limit for General Population/Uncontrolled Exposure is 1mW/cm 2 . As this is a mobile application the MPE shall be calculated at 20cm to show compliance with the power density limit. The following formula was used to calculate the Power Density: Where: Document No.: 533106 RF Exposure Test Report Date: Apr. 18, 2005 FCC ID: RAXWG4005E Sporton International Inc. S = Power Density P = Output Power at Antenna Terminals G = Gain of Transmit Antenna (linear gain) R = Distance from Transmitting Antenna For this device, the calculation is as follows: Because the EUT belongs to General Population/ Uncontrolled Exposure, the limit of power density is 1.0 mW/cm². 801.11b Channel NO.
