Setting Up Your Equipment Introduction The Firetide Model 2100 and 2200 HotClient Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) provide connec- tivity to the Internet without the need for cable, DSL, or other wired connection. The HotClient uses a radio connection to provide Ethernet-equivalent connectivity in your home or business. You connect to the HotClient via a wired Ethernet connection. You can connect a single computer or multiple devices on a LAN. You can also connect an 802.11 a/b/g/n access device, if desired. Unpacking and Setup - Indoor Setup of your new Firetide HotClient is simple. The package contents are shown in Figure 1. Your HotClient needs power. Note that the AC adapter ha…

Firetide Model 2200 Theory of Operation The 2200 Series HotClient Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) is comprised of two printed circuit assemblies; a Support Board and a Radio. The boards are connected together via a 2 x 10 pin connector and are mounted inside a cast aluminum enclosure. The HotClient CPE is powered by POE using an external AC/DC wall adapter (48V out, 0.35 A rating). The Support Board accepts the 48 VDC input through a RJ-45 connector. The Support Board converts the the 48 VDC into the supply voltages used by the the Radio Card (3.3 and 5.0 VDC) and internal circuitry (8.0 VDC). The support board also contains three LED’s that indicate in the unit is powered and two SW controlled LED’s that are used to display unit status and relative RSSI. The Radio Card runs from 3.3 and 5.0 volts, which is provided by the Support Board. The output TX stage of the radio is powered from +5.0 VDC and has a supply current of 350 mA. The 2100 series uses a Firetide proprietary radio card design, which incorporates an Atheros Communications chipset. The Radio operates from 2412 MHz to 2462 MHz according to the IEEE 802.11b/g specification. The data rates supported are 1 Mbit (DBPSK), 2 Mbit (DQPSK), 5.5 Mbit (CCK), and 11 Mbit (CCK) for .11b and 6, 9, 12, 18, 24, 36, and 54 MBit OFDM for .11a/g. The HotClient uses and external 8 dBi omni directional antenna or a 13 dBi patch antenna. Only proprietary software written and distributed by Firetide Inc. can be installed on the HotClient CPE. “Source code” is controlled solely by Firetide Inc and is not distributed to end users.

Electromagnetic Compatibility Firetide Intentional Radiators 2200 CFR Title 47, 15.247; RSS-210, Issue 7, June 2007 MET Report: EMCS80650-FCC247 © 2008, MET Laboratories, Inc. Electromagnetic Compatibility Criteria for Intentional Radiators § 15.247(b) Peak Power Output and RF Exposure RF Exposure Requirements: §1.1307(b)(1) and §1.1307(b)(2): Systems operating under the provisions of this section shall be operated in a manner that ensures that the public is not exposed to radio frequency energy levels in excess of the Commission’s guidelines. RF Radiation Exposure Limit: §1.1310: As specified in this section, the Maximum Permissible Exposure (MPE) Limit shall be used to evaluate the environmental impact of human exposure to radiofrequency (RF) radiation as specified in Sec. 1.1307(b), except in the case of portable devices which shall be evaluated according to the provisions of Sec. 2.1093 of this chapter. MPE Limit Calculation: EUT’s operating frequencies @ 2412-2462 MHz ; highest conducted power = 25.34dBm (peak) therefore, Limit for Uncontrolled exposure: 1 mW/cm 2 or 10 W/m 2 EUT maximum antenna gain = 13 dBi (Panel Antenna) Equation from page 18 of OET 65, Edition 97-01 S = PG / 4πR 2 or R = √PG / 4πS where, S = Power Density ( mW/cm 2 ) P = Power Input to antenna (341.9794mW) G = Antenna Gain (19.95numeric) R = (341.9794*19.95/ 4*3.14*1.0) 1/2 = (6823.387 / 12.56) 1/2 = 23.30cm MPE Limit Calculation: EUT’s operating frequencies @ 2412-2462 MHz ; highest conducted power = 25.34dBm (peak) therefore, Limit for Uncontrolled exposure: 1 mW/cm 2 or 10 W/m 2 EUT maximum antenna gain = 8 dBi (Omni Antenna) Equation from page 18 of OET 65, Edition 97-01 S = PG / 4πR 2 or R = √PG / 4πS where, S = Power Density ( mW/cm 2 ) P = Power Input to antenna (341.9794mW) G = Antenna Gain (6.30 numeric) S = (341.9794*6.30/ 4*3.14*20 2 ) = (2157.744 5024) = 0.43 mW/cm 2
