WE SUGGEST THAT YOU STILL GLANCE THROUGH IT AS THIS VERSION MAY BE DATED LATER THAN ONE YOU HAVE ALREADY READ. The box you have just opened contains several very similar-looking modules that, when assembled, form one of the Access/One Network Nodes that you purchased. Also included in the box with these modules are a separately-packaged power supply and Dual Lock™ patches that can be used to attach the Node to a desk, cubicle wall or mounting bracket. External antennas, wall/ceiling mounting brackets and/or security locking cables, if ordered, are all packaged separately. You may have a Strix Network Node map and inventory list that was generated by the Architect/One™ application. This information, or your own network map, will be a useful reference during the Access/One Network installation process. Instructions for adding a Node to your existing Access/One Network This section does not discuss Network Node assembly and mounting directions as you should be familiar with this process. If not, please skip to the next section. When adding a new Node to an existing Access/One Network you must enable the Node to be part of the wireless network, i.e. you must authorize it before it can become operational. To do this, simply: 1. Power on the Node 2. Start the Manager/One™ application in a web browser by clicking the Strix Access/One Network icon on the toolbar. 3. Locate any Network Server in the Manager/One listing and double click on it to display a map of all the Network Nodes. 4. Select the newly installed Node on the map and ‘join’ it into a) the Access/One Network; and b) the security domain if your network is partitioned into multiples. The new Node will inherit the network’s configuration and security settings – it will reboot itself and rejoin the network ‘cloud’ as a fully authorized member. Instructions for a new Access/One Network installation Box content details The Access/One Network modules in the box are already placed in the correct order for easy assembly of the Network Node. It is always a good idea to double-check that the correct modules are in the box. Remember the following visual clues on both the module’s model number label and the colored dot identification sticker on the module’s antistatic shipping bag: - The Base Module is always present. Its model number begins with the letters “BM” and the attached identification sticker is white. - The Network Server module, if present, is typically placed next to the Base Module. Its model number is “NWSV” and the attached identification sticker is red. - The Wireless Modules are placed next. These modules have a model number that begins with the letters “WM” and have attached identification stickers in varying shades of blue, which represent different radio technologies. If there are two Wireless Modules in the Node, the light blue one (802.11a), if present, should be placed below the other. This will guarantee that the correct antenna is engaged. - If present, the Antenna Module is placed last. Its model number begins with the letters “AM” and the attached identification sticker is green. The Strix Antenna Module does not look like a traditional antenna (rabbit ears, etc.), but like all other Strix modules. Assemble the Node Typically, it takes less than a minute to assemble a Network Node. There is only one way each module can be attached to any other, so: 1. Unpack the Base Module. Open the plastic bag with the Dual Lock™ patches. Turn the module over and attach the patches to the three sunken circles on the bottom of the module – press hard to make sure each patch sticks to the surface. Place the module upright with the LED window facing you. 2. Unpack other modules one by one and ‘snap’ each new one on top of the Node being assembled. Make sure you hear a ‘click’. The wave design on the modules only allows the modules to be assembled one way. The Node is completely assembled when the Antenna Module is snapped on. 3. Unless you plan to use Power-over-Ethernet (PoE), take power supply out of its box and insert the small DC power jack into the rear of the Base Module. For your convenience the power jack contains a locking mechanism, so you might have to turn it a quarter turn in either direction to correctly fit into place. Now, make sure you turn the jack again in any direction to lock it and prevent the power cord from being pulled out accidentally. The Node is now assembled! Mount the Node Nothing else needs to be done if you plan to place the Node on a desk, filing cabinet, book shelf, or any other flat surface – the Node will stand on its own four rubber feet. However, if you want a more permanent placement or are using a mounting bracket it is prudent to: a) attach the Node to the surface or mounting bracket with Dual Lock™ (it makes for a very strong attachment, yet the Node can still be removed by hand when a little force is applied); and b) secure the Node in place with a security locking cable to prevent theft, misplacement, etc. 1. If you have ordered a mounting bracket (packaged separately), use the installation hardware provided and follow instructions supplied to attach it to the wall or ceiling. Remember that the bracket is designed so that the Network Node ‘hangs’ upside down. - 2 - Strix Systems, Inc. 310 N. Kyle, This product is used exclusively on our own private network which we install as part of the overall product. Since it is a wireless network, we only use one LAN connection generally at the last node which connects to the customer's server. Extra connections can be used for setup and test, when required. We do not use the base as an ITE hub/switch. Hopefully this explains why the product is called the Access/One(tm) Network, as opposed to just an access point. Section 5.2 of main test report did not list such power meter. Please provide the power meter information. Since you are using power meter to measure DTS , please also provide the power sensor specification to make sure the bandwidth is wide enough to measure this device. Reponse: We are using the Hewlett Packard Power Meter (Model: 436A, S/N: 2236A15362, Cal Due Date: June 20, 2003) with the Hewlett Packard Power Sensor (Model: 8482H, S/N: GG00000006, Cal Due Date: June 20, 2003). Also attached will be the Application Note from Agilent showing the 8482H sensor has an unlimited bandwidth range). Question #2: In the Expository statement made by the applicant, this device can communicate with Bluetooth device. Based upon this device is equipped with 802.11 a/b/g radio, please explain how this device can communicate with Bluetooth device. Response: From client "The Access/One (tm) Newtwork has a Bluetooth radio module which we will be adding to this approval shortly. If this is of concern, then let's drop the reference to the Bluetooth Functionality until we come back with the Bluetooth test data to add to this approval." The client just wants to approve the 802.11 stuff right now. Question #3: In accordance with user manual, the 802.11 a/b/g radio will be shipped as add-on device. In the user manual provide the instruction on how to install this radio. In addition, user manual also indicates that this device can detect the type of antenna that can be used with this radio. Please provide detail technical description to explain how such detection can be done. Reply to this question will be used to determine the integral antenna requirements for 5.15-5.25GHz band as required per section 15.407(d)of FCC rules. Response: From the Client -- "The radio module installation instructions wre provided in the Quick Start Guide which was provided earlier...howerver, I have attached it again. These instructions are repeated in the full Users Guide which is attached. Also, we use a programmed EPROM in our antenna module. When the node power up, the systems interrogates the antenna module, looking for a Strix Systems identifier. If it finds the correct identifier, the system will allow the M-PCI radio module(s) to transmit and receive normally. If the wrong identifier is detected, or if no identifier is detected, the system will not allow the M-PCI radio module to transmit or recieve in any manner. This method of antenna identification has been approved for Strix by the FCC. If necessary we can provide e-mail verification of same." Question #4: Please address the requirement per section 15.407(a)(7) of FCC rules. 2 The EUT uses the standard program that most access points use for setting the channel. A look at the 6dB bandwidth plots shows the frequncy of the fundamental is right where they are supposed to be (i.e. 5180 MHz, 5260 MHz, 5320 MHz). Question #5: Please provide information to address section 15.407(g) of FCC rules. Response: "The Askey M-PCI radio card that we use has been tested for compliance with the frequency stability requirements of section 15.407 (g) of the FCC rules, as has the Atheros chipset which is used in the M- PCI radio module. Frequency stability is maintained over the range of 0 degress celsius to +70 degress celsius. I have attached the Askey datasheet for the M-PCI radio we are using. In addition, Strix has performed DVT four-corners testing in a temperature chabmer to confirm proper transmitter operation over our stated frequency range of operation 5 degrees ceslius to 45 celsius. This data is proprietary however. Strix Systems is satisfied that we fully comply with our obligations under seciton 15.407 (g) or the FCC rules."
