The BTR comprises a “bed of nails” style jig which connects to a single Birdirra Module using spring loaded pogo pins to facilitate connection of the module to a test computer, power supply and RF test instruments. The BTR is used both for Birdirra Manufacturing testing and Birdirra radio compliance testing. This manual covers only the features required to use the BTR as a host system for Birdirra module radio compliance testing. 2 Test Rig Hardware The BTR is shown in Figure 1 below. The Birdirra module is clamped into the test rig as shown. A single USB cable is supplied to provide power and serial communications to the Birdirra Module. The BTR antenna port is an SMA connector, and the rig is supplied with a 2dBi dipole antenna. Figure 1 Birdirra Test Rig Hardware A Windows PC is required to power and control the Module. To set up the Hardware: 1. Connect the supplied antenna or test equipment to the SMA port. 2. Start Device Manager on the controller PC. 3. Connect the USB cable to the PC and note which COM port is opened in Device Manager. Page 3 of 3 3 Compliance Test Software Open the provided software RfComplTest.exe It will prompt you to choose the serial port, select the port noted from the previous step. Note: If you have chosen the incorrect port the program will close. 1. Select “Set to BPSK Output” and hit “OK”. The module will begin to transmit modulated output continuously. 2. Select “Reset test mode” and hit “OK” to halt transmission. The board is powered through the USB. If you have any issues you can reset it by disconnecting and reconnecting the USB.

Page 3 of 10 1 Functional Description The Birdirra Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) module allows developers to connect a range of IoT devices to the Taggle network. The Taggle network is an LPWAN solution based on world leading Australian developed technology operating in the 916-928MHz Low Interference Potential Device (LIPD) class licence band, which has been developed by Taggle Systems to provide one of the lowest cost, lowest power, longest range, and highest capacity LPWAN solutions available. The Taggle network is based on one-way transmissions from endpoint nodes to the Taggle receiver network, and is particularly well suited to battery powered endpoint applications with low data rate requirements, such as automatic meter reading, wireless sensors for smart agriculture and environmental monitoring, and cost sensitive smart city applications. Birdirra provides a single serial port with simple interface to allow rapid integration of the module into both lab prototypes and volume production IoT devices. The module has a single radio transmit output and can be powered directly from 3.6V Li-SOCl 2 batteries. All receive functions are handled seamlessly by the Taggle network, with the user's receive data presented via a custom web portal. A range of data plans are available depending on the number of endpoints connected to the Taggle network and the frequency of messages per endpoint. Page 4 of 10 2 Radio Compliance 2.1 FCC This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interfere…

S200203 Taggle Systems Pty Ltd FCC Modular Approval Letter v2 Modular Approval Letter Taggle Systems Pty Ltd with FCC ID : S7R-BIRDIRRA , is seeking FCC Authorization as a Single Modular transmitter / Single Limited Modular Approval (please check one) The EUT meets the requirements for: Single Modular approval / Single Limited Modular Approval (please check one) as detailed in KDB 996369. Compliance to each of the requirements is described below: Modular Approval Requirement Yes No Please provide a detailed explanation if the answer is “No.” (i) The radio elements of the modular transmitter must have their own shielding. The physical crystal and tuning capacitors may be located external to the shielded radio elements. X (ii) The modular transmitter must have buffered modulation/data inputs (if such inputs are provided) to ensure that the module will comply with part 15 requirements under conditions of excessive data rates or over-modulation. X (iii) The modular transmitter must have its own power supply regulation. X There is no power supply regulation on the module (iv) The modular transmitter must comply with the antenna and transmission system requirements of §§ 15.203, 15.204(b) and 15.204(c). The antenna must either be permanently attached or employ a ‘‘unique’’ antenna coupler (at all connections between the module and the antenna, including the cable). The ‘‘professional installation’’ provision of § 15.203 is not applicable to modules but can apply to limited modular approvals under paragraph (b) of this section. X (v) The modular transmitter must be tested in a stand-alone configuration X (vi) The modular transmitter must be equipped with either a permanently affixed label or must be capable of electronically displaying its FCC identification number. X (vii) The modular transmitter must comply with any specific rules or operating requirements that ordinarily apply to a complete transmitter and the manufacturer must provide adequate instructions along with the module to explain any such requirements. A copy of these instructions must be included in the application for equipment authorization. X (viii) The modular transmitter must comply with any applicable RF exposure requirements in its final configuration.
