Whistle Activity Monitor – BT Pairing & Wi-‐Fi Setup Explanation Released: September 6, 2013 1. The Whistle iOS app when first running will prompt the user to initiate pairing on device by holding button 4 seconds. 2. After clicking “pair” the Whistle iOS will display the iOS in-‐app pairing dialogue which shows a list of available Bluetooth devices. This will show the Whistle device and the user will need to select it. 3. Once the device is paired the iOS app will request the device to query the available Wi-‐Fi networks. The device will then disconnect Bluetooth, turn off Bluetooth, turn on Wi-‐Fi, scan for Wi-‐Fi networks, turn off Wi-‐Fi, turn on Bluetooth, reconnect to the phone, sends the results of the Wi-‐Fi scan to the iOS app. NOTE: throughout this process it is ensured that only one radio operates at a time. 4. Once the user selects the Wi-‐Fi network the user will be prompted for the password. 5. Once the user enters the password the iOS app will send the network name and password to the device. The device will then disconnect Bluetooth, turn off Bluetooth, turn on Wi-‐Fi, attempt to connect to the provided Wi-‐Fi network, store the result of this attempt, turn off Wi-‐Fi, turn on Bluetooth, reconnect to the phone, sends the results of the Wi-‐Fi connection attempt to the iOS app. NOTE: throughout this process it is ensured that only one radio operates at a time. 6. If the device successfully connected to the WiFi network the app will then display a lists of the configured / saved networks on the device.

Response for TCB comments: 5(d): The spurious radiated emissions from the Bluetooth Low Energy mode of the device were not provided in the original test report for a series of related reasons. The Bluetooth Low Energy mode has a lower output power when compared to Classic Bluetooth and the EDR modes. Radiated emissions were performed on the Classic Bluetooth mode, as can be found in the FHSS report related to this EUT. Bluetooth Classic and Low Energy modes demonstrate similar modulations, and Classic mode operates at a higher output power, justifying no further radiated emissions testing in Low Energy mode.
