Asus Castor User Manual i Preface Congratulations on your purchase of an Asus Castor mobile telephone. Read this manual carefully and keep it in a safe place for future reference. About this manual Every effort has been made to ensure that the contents of this manual are correct and up to date. However, no guarantee is made regarding the accuracy of the contents, and the manufacturer reserves the right to make changes without notice. Copyright© Asus 2005 ii Additional Information The use of this equipment may be subject to local rules and regulations. The following rules and reg- ulations may be relevant in some or all areas where your handset will be in operation. FCC Regulations This model phone complies with part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the condition that this device does not cause harmful interfer- ence. This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions:(1) this device may not cause harmful interference and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. This equipment has been tested and found to com- ply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pur- suant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communica- tions. However, there is no guarantee that interfer- ence will not occur in a particular installation If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be deter- mined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interfer- ence by one or more of the following measures: •Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna. •Increase the separation between the equip- ment and receiver. •Connect the equipment into an outlet on a cir- cuit different from that to which the receiver is connected. •Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/ TV technician for help. Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user‘s authority to operate the equipment. The antenna(s) used for this transmitter must not be co-located or operating in conjunction with any other antenna or transmitter. This EUT is in compliance with SAR for general population /uncontrolled exposure limits in ANSI/ IEEE C95.1-1999 and had been tested in accor- dance with the measurement methods and proce- dures specified in OET Bulletin 65 Supplement C. iii European Notice Products with the mark comply with the Radio & Telecommunication Terminal Equipment Directive (1999/5/EEC), the Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (89/336/EEC) and the Low Voltage Directive (73/23/EEC) - as amended by Directive 93/68/ECC - issued by the Commission of the European Community. Compliance with these directives implies confor- mity to the following European Standards: •1999/5/EEC Radio & Telecommunication Terminal Equipment Directive (R&TTE) EN 301 511 •Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) Standard: EN 50360, EN 50361 •73/23/EEC Low Voltage Directive (LVD) Standard: EN 60950:2000 •89/336/EEC Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC-Directive) Standard: EN301489-1/7 •The manufacturer cannot be held responsible for modifications made by the user and the consequences thereof, which may alter the conformity of the product with the mark. RF Exposure Information (SAR) This model phone meets the government’s requirements for exposure to radio waves. This phone is designed and manufactured not to exceed the emission limits for exposure to radio frequency (RF) energy set by the Federal Commu- nications Commission of the U.S. Government. The exposure standard for wireless mobile phones employs a unit of measurement known as the Spe- cific Absorption Rate, or SAR. The SAR limit set by the FCC is 1.6W/kg. Tests for SAR are conducted using standard operating positions accepted by the FCC with the phone transmitting at its highest certified power level in all tested frequency bands. Although the SAR is determined at the highest cer- tified power level, the actual SAR level of the phone while operating can be well below the maxi- mum value. This is because the phone is designed to operate at multiple power levels so as to use only the power required to reach the network. In general, the closer you are to a wireless base sta- tion antenna, the lower the power output. The highest SAR value for the model phone as reported to the FCC when tested for use at the ear is 0.233 W/kg and when worn on the body, as described in this user guide, is 0.789 W/kg. (Body- worn measurements differ among phone models, depending upon avail-able enhancements and FCC requirements. While there may be differences between the SAR levels of various phones and at various positions, they all meet the government requirement. iv The FCC has granted an Equipment Authorization for this model phone with all reported SAR levels evaluated as in compliance with the FCC RF expo- sure guidelines. SAR information on this model phone is on file with the FCC and can be found under the Display Grant section of tap:// www.fcc.gov/oet/fccid after searching on FCC ID: SNFCAS For body worn operation, this phone has been tested and meets the FCC RF exposure guidelines for use with an accessory that contains no metal and the positions the handset a minimum of 1.5 cm from the body. Use of other enhancements may not ensure compliance with FCC RF expo- sure guidelines. If you do not use a body-worn accessory and are not holding the phone at the ear, position the handset a minimum of 1.5 cm from your body when the phone is switched on. Proper Disposal The symbol of the crossed out bin indicates that the product (electrical and electronic equipment) should not be placed…

American Telecommunications Certification Body Inc. 6731 Whittier Ave, McLean, VA 22101 October 13, 2005 RE: Asmobile Communication Inc. FCC ID: SNFCAS I have a few comments on the above referenced Application. 1) Kindly provide information (i.e. labeled photographs) to show the location of the BT and GSM circuits as well as the location of antennas for each transmitter. If necessary, please provide photographs showing antenna placement. 2) It appears that internal photographs underneath one of the shields was not provided (page 6). Please provide. 3) Given the nature of the device (portable), was the Bluetooth transmitter checked in 3 positions in effort to obtain worse case positioning? 4) Please explain if data and voice modes may operate at the same time. If so, then head evaluation at 0.5 crest factor is necessary. 5) The statement of compliance section of the SAR report appears to be missing. Please correct. 6) More than 1 hotspot appear on page 44 of the SAR report, but it does not appear to provide information regarding the second hot spot. Please review. 7) FCC requires worse case SAR positioning to be tested with Bluetooth turned on and off. This information has not been provided. 8) FYI...Please report tuning range on the 731 form for future applications (not band of operation). 9) FYI...The manual appears to be missing the required information for DoC’s according to 2.1077 of the rules. Please ensure the manufacturer inserts this information. Timothy R. Johnson Examining Engineer mailto: [email protected] The items indicated above must be submitted before processing can continue on the above referenced application. Failure to provide the requested information may result in application termination. Correspondence should be considered part of the permanent submission and may be viewed from the Internet after a Grant of Equipment Authorization is issued. Please do not respond to this correspondence using the email reply button. In order for your response to be processed expeditiously, you must submit your documents through the AmericanTCB.com website. Also, please note that partial responses increase processing time and should not be submitted. Any questions about the content of this correspondence should be directed to the sender.
SPORTON LAB Response For FCC Application 2005/10/17 RE: Asmobile Communication Inc. FCC ID: SNFCAS 1. Updated 2. Updated 3. Yes, the data in the report is the worst position. 4. No, voice and data modes can not operate at the same time. 5. SAR report has been updated to include the statement of compliance. 6. The default setting of DASY4 is to omit the second hot spot if the SAR is below 0.5 W//kg. However, we compare the 2-D SAR of the these 2 hot spots and find the SAR for 2 nd hot spot is around 0.18 W/kg. 7. We re-verified the BT on and off mode on this worst body-worn position and found their value is quite close. Please find the final results in the updated SAR report. . Sincerely Yours Daniel Lee EMC/SAR Director
