WBS-2400 & WBS-5800 Outdoor Wi-Fi Sector Base Station Installation Guide Rev. 3 February 2009 Note: To better reflect the value of Wavion products we are changing the name of our product family from Access Points (AP) to Wireless Base Stations (WBS), consequently the existing WS- 410 product name will be changed to Wavion WBS-2400. The new product name emphasizes the difference in architecture (Multiple Radio system) and the value to customer, superiority in performance (coverage, capacity, indoor penetration and immunity to interference) of Wavion WiFi base station over any other standard outdoor WiFi access point products available in the market. All references in Wavion's documentation to WS-410 refer also to the WBS-2400, and vice versa. Both products are exactly the same except for the name change. Scope This test report contains results measured on 2.4 GHz Band Outdoor WiFi (802.11b/g) Wireless Base Station (FCC ID: UGM-WBS2400-2S) according to the relevant requirements of CFR 47 FCC Part 15 Subparts B & C. 4. EUT (equipment under test) description. 4.1. General Description The WBS-2400 is a new category of Wi-Fi Wireless Base Station designed from the ground up for metro-Wi-Fi deployments. It is based on three antennas and radios and custom-built ASICs, utilizes Wavion's powerful multi-antenna signal processing technologies, and provides significant performance gains to off-the-shelf 802.11 standards-based Wi-Fi clients. The WBS-2400 Wi-Fi Wireless Base Station uses three sector antennas and beam- forming technology in order to provide significant performance gains to off-the-shelf 802.11 standards-based Wi-Fi clients. 4.2. Test Report No.: 8912323629 Page 42 of 65 Pages Title: Test on 2.4 GHz Band Outdoor WiFi (802.11b/g) Wireless Base Station Model: WBS-2400 FCC ID: UGM-WBS2400-2S 7.10. Maximum peak output power 7.10.1. Requirements: The maximum peak output power shall not exceed 1 Watt as required in sec. 15.247 (b). 15.247 (b) (4): The conducted output power limit specified in paragraph (b) of this section is based on the use of antennas with directional gains that do not exceed 6 dBi. Except as shown in paragraph (c) of this section, if transmitting antennas of directional gain greater than 6 dBi are used, the conducted output power from the intentional radiator shall be reduced below the stated values in paragraphs (b)(1), (b)(2), and (b)(3) of this section, as appropriate, by the amount in dB that the directional gain of the antenna exceeds 6 dBi. Applying the restrictions from (c)(2)(ii), the conducted output power is derived as follows: • The antenna element gain is 10.5 dBi. • The maximum directional antenna gain is 10.5+10*log 10 (3) = 15.3 dBi. • The maximum aggregate peak output limit is 30 dBm – (15.3-6)/3 =26.9 dBm. • The maximum peak output limit for each transmit output and for each beam is 26.9-10*log 10 (3) = 22.1 dBm. If a transmitter employs an antenna that operates simultaneously on multiple directional beams using the same or different frequency channels, the power supplied to each emission beam is subject to the power limit specified in paragraph (c)(2)(ii) of this section. In addition, the aggregate power transmitted simultaneously on all beams shall not exceed the limit specified in paragraph (c)(2)(ii) of this section by more than 8 dB. 7.10.2. Test procedure: The output power measurements were performed at worst case mode, e.g. in multiple (two beams) mode operation. The measurements were performed in normal (transmitting) mode of operation for carrier (channel) frequency at low, middle and the high of the 2.412 - 2.462 GHz frequency range at each transmit output under two data transfer bit rates that reflect to the worst test results. Additionally, combined maximum peak output power was calculated and presented in table 11. 7.10.3. Test results: All test results met the requirements. The summaries of Peak Power measurements (worst case) are shown in Table 10. The reference limit at the measurements in 2 beams mode was taken the same as for the single beam mode. The aggregate power with two beams not exceeds the limit for one beam (see Table 11). The margin for the aggregate power with two beams is at least 8dB below standard requirements.
