The accuracy of a GPS position fix is variable and is affected by factors such as the antenna positioning, how many satellites are used to determine a position and for how long satellite information has been received for. About AIS Page 3 2About AIS The marine Automatic Identification System (AIS) is a location and vessel information reporting system. It allows vessels equipped with AIS to automatically and dynamically share and regularly update their position, speed, course and other information such as vessel identity with similarly equipped vessels. Position is derived from the Global Positioning System (GPS) and communication between vessels is by Very High Frequency (VHF) digital transmissions. There are a number of types of AIS device as follows: •Class A transceivers. Are designed to be fitted to large vessels such as cargo ships and large passenger vessels. Class A transceivers transmit at a higher VHF signal power than class B transceivers and therefore can be received by more distant vessels. They also transmit more frequently. Class A transceivers are mandatory on all vessels over 300 gross tonnes on international voyages and certain types of passenger vessels under SOLAS regulations. •Class B transceivers. Similar to class A transceivers in many ways, but are normally lower cost due to the less str…

07/07/14 P238 AtoN Express Justification for use of Identifier i100 and SART test reports The SRT Marine Technology AtoN Express is a Type 1 Aid to Navigation (AtoN). The hardware, electronics, circuitry, components, battery, charging system, mechanical enclosure and plastics are identical to that used in the SRT Marine Technology Ltd owned em-trak i100 Identifier 417-0009, which was previously approved to the R&TTE Directive under BABT Notified body opinion R&TTE NC17249 and the SART which was Industry Canada approved under IC number 7075A-4090002. The AtoN Express has an external enclosure of the same cylindrical shape but white in colour; whereas the Identifier I100 and SART are orange in colour. Both enclosures are made of the same material and otherwise identical. The AtoN Express uses modified software to alter its behaviour to that of an AtoN. The AtoN operation has been tested in accordance with IEC 62320-2 AIS AtoN Stations. Results of this testing are included within this TCF under test report number. 75925174 01 Issue 01 and 75925174 04 Issue 01 The test reports within this TCF from i100 identifier, SART and AtoN Express provide evidence of compliance to the required standards, thus meeting the requirements of the R&TTE Directive, FCC and Industry Canada: The AtoN Express is identical in construction and size and uses the same materials as the I100 Identifier and so the results used for Identifier i100 and SART approval can also be used to show compliance to the R&TTE Directive, FCC and Industry Canada. .
