Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) this device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. FCC ID: WHBBMWHUS WARNING! Changes or modifications to this unit not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user’s authority to operate the equipment. RF EXPOSURE WARNING! This equipment must be installed and operated in accordance with provided instructions and the antenna(s) used for this transmitter must be installed to provide a separation distance of at least 20 cm from all persons and must not be co‐located or operating in conjunction with any other antenna or transmitter. End‐users and installers must be provided with antenna installation instructions and transmitter operating conditions for satisfying RF exposure compliance. Please read before use General information Dear customer, By purchasing the BMW Head‐Up Screen you have acquired a product that supports driving safety and comfort by indicating important vehicle and navigation information within your visible range. The screen is installed on the instrument panel and positioned at the same height as the steering wheel. All information is therefore available within the driver’s direct field of vision. Drivers no longer need to take their eyes off the road and have all relevant information on display at all times. Vehicle data such as speed, cruise control, frost warning, sea level, power, torque and a fuel reminder from a remaining range of 50 km are displayed. The “Garmin HUD“ app for your iOS or Android smartphone, which is included in the scope of delivery, provides fully functional navigation with turn‐by ‐turn (arrow display) instructions and corresponding additional information such as the calculated time of arrival, speed limits and current traffic information (congestions). BMW recommends that you only use parts and accessory products that have been tested and approved by BMW in terms of their safety, function and suitability. If you have any questions while using your BMW Head‐Up Screen, contact your local BMW centre. Read these operating instructions carefully before using your BMW Head‐Up Screen. Safety instructions and important information For your own safety, please read the safety instructions carefully to avoid causing injury to yourself and/or other road users. Applicable safety regulations always take precedence here. Using the smartphone Please do not operate your smartphone while driving. To avoid being distracted during the journey, please connect the Head‐Up Screen to the smartphone before starting the engine or departure. This also applies when entering your destination. For safety reasons, your smartphone does not have an Internet connection while connected to the Head‐Up Screen. Only the live navigation services (traffic news, etc.) are connected to the Internet. Please note that additional roaming charges may be incurred when travelling abroad if you have activated the data roaming function in your smartphone. To access the Internet services of your smartphone with other applications, please switch off the Head‐Up Screen via the vehicle ignition, fold down the display or terminate the WLAN connection in your smartphone with the Head‐Up Screen. Operating temperature If the Head‐Up Screen should exceed the permissible operating temperature, your Head‐Up Screen will only be activated when the ignition is switched on and when the permitted interior temperature has been reached. This may possibly take several minutes. Display brightness The brightness of the Head‐Up Screen automatically adapts to the brightness of the instrument panel lighting of your vehicle. It can, however, still be manually adapted via the instrument panel light control in the vehicle or via the settings in the “Head‐Up Screen app”. Note: Changes of the brightness of the Head‐Up Screen via the instrument panel light control only work when parking lights or low beam headlights are switched on. For information regarding the regulation of the instrument panel lighting, please refer to the instructions in your BMW vehicle manual. Please make sure that the display is not too bright when driving in the dark, so that your vision is not impaired. Cleaning / care We recommend that you use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning the Head‐Up Screen. A suitable microfiber cloth is included in the scope of delivery. Please do not use any other cleaning agents, as they may cause damage to the product. In case of heavier soiling, it is advisable to moisten the cloth with a little water. Product description ❷ 1. Recess for opening the screen 2. Reset button The Head‐Up Screen can be restored to factory settings using a paperclip. Subsequently you have to login again using the factory WLAN access data. 3. NFC contact point (Near Field Communication is an international transmission standard for the contact‐free exchange of data via radio technology over short distances of only a few centimetres) You can automatically start the Head‐Up Screen app here on NFC‐compatible smartphones. 3. Operational Description CAN Module 1. Power Circuit 1-1. Car ACC power is inputted through the JP1. (Car ACC power is about 9V~14.8V) 1-2. The input voltage converted into DC 5V through the U1 Linear Regulator. This voltage supplies “VCC”. The “VCC” voltage supplies MICOM, CAN Transceiver and LIN Transceiver. 2. LIN/CAN Transceiver Part 2-1. U3 is high speed CAN Transceiver that provides an interface between the CAN protocol of U2 and the physical two-wire CAN bus of the user’s car. 2-2. U4 is the interface between the LIN master/slave protocol controller of U2 and the physical bus of HUD Head Up Screen 1. Power Circuit 1-1. “VIN” source of CAN Module inputted through the J1. (Car ACC power is about 9V~14.8V) The input Voltage supplies “UBAT_14V” and “UBAT_TOLED”. 1-2. The “UBAT_14V” converted into DC 5V through the P_U1 DC/DC down converter. This voltage supplies “VSYS”. The “VSYS” is converted into DC 3.3V again by way of the U11 DC/DC down converter and U4 Low drop output regulator. This voltage is “VDDIO3V3” and “VDD3V3_MCU” The “VDDIO3V3” converted into U11 supplies Wifi module, Serial flash and TOLED VDD. The “VDD3V3_MCU” converted into U4 supplies MICOM. 1-3. The “UBAT_TOLED” is converted into 15V through the L5 DC/DC up converter. The” VCC_TOLED_15V” converted into L5 supplies TOLED VCC. 2. Wifi Transmission/Reception Part 2-1. This transmits and receives RF signals of 2.412~2.462 G Hz through an ANT1 chip antenna by using the U6 2.4GHz Wifi Module. 2-2. The wireless front end uses OFDM modulation.
