Company: Anaren, Inc FCC ID: X7J-A14070701 Request for transmitter modular approval Transmitter Module Characteristics Item Requirements EUT 1 Have its own RF shielding The Anaren modular transmitter has a cover over the radio elements, with the antenna or antenna connector located outside of the cover. Refer to external photos 2 Have buffered modulation/data inputs (if such inputs are provided), The Anaren modular transmitter has built-in buffering on both transmit and receive paths, as well as hardware flow control 3 Have it own power supply regulation The module has internal regulation to allow an input voltage of 1.2V. Refer to Block diagram 4 Meet the antenna requirements of Section 15.203 The Anaren modular transmitter uses one of two methods to employ a unique coupler for all connections between the module and antenna: 1. Permanently connected internal antenna 2. U.FL unique coupling connector Refer to external photos 5 Be tested in a stand-alone configuration, i.e., the antenna, AC or DC power and data input/output lines must be connected to the module but, the module must not be inside another case during testing The modular device was tested in a stand-alone configuration with the help of another board which supplied only physical support and power connections 6 Be labeled with its own FCC ID number, and if the FCC ID is not visible when the module is installed inside another device, then the outside of the device into which the module is installed must also display a label referring to the enclosed module. The Anaren modular transmitter is marked with a unique FCC identification number. See drawing and pictures included with the application for location of the marking. Instructions are given to the end user in the module data sheet that if the module is installed inside another device, then the outside of the device must also display a label referring to the enclosed module 7 The modular transmitter is manufactured so that the user cannot influence the operation of the transmitter that will operate outside of the scope of the regulations. Please refer to the "OEM User's Manual" supplied separately. 8 Address compliance with the Commission's RF exposure limits in Sections 1.1310 and 2.1093. In addition, spread spectrum transmitters operating under Section 15.247 are required to address RF exposure compliance in accordance with Section 15.247(b)(4). Evaluation for RF exposure compliance shows output power is below threshold that would require SAR for use in portable devices used next to the body. Please refer to RF Exposure report.

Operational Description

Anaren Microwave, Inc. 6635 Kirkville Road East Syracuse, NY 13057 Phone: 315 432 8909 Fax: 315 432 9121 www.anaren.com A20737A & A20737C Radio Module Theory of Operation The A20737A and A20737C modules operate in the global 2.4 GHz ISM/SRD frequency band. They incorporate Bluetooth SMART technology and can be used in a variety of networks that use this protocol. No other modes/protocols are supported. Both modules operate in a similar manner except the antenna part where A20737A communicates through a built-in antenna, and A20737C communicates through an external antenna attached to a U.FL antenna port. The description of the functional blocks is given as follows:  Antenna o The antenna couples energy between the air and the module. The integral antenna and the external monopole antenna, both centered at 2441.75 MHz, provide a near omni-directional antenna pattern with high efficiency such that the application will work in any direction. Note that the end radiation pattern depends not only on the antenna, but also the ground plane, enclosure and installation environment.  Matching & Filtering o The matching provides the correct loading of the transmit amplifier to achieve the highest output power as well as the correct loading for the receive LNA to achieve the best sensitivity. o Filtering removes spurious signals to comply with regulatory intentional radiator requirements, provides reduced susceptibility to power supply and digital noise, and filters out RF and high frequency noise from the communication data and control link.  TX/RX Chain o TX/RX chain handles transmitting and receiving of the communication data based on the radio register settings. It involves the coordination of several blocks including modulator, demodulator, AGC control, frequency synthesizer and frame control.  Crystal o Crystal oscillator provides the necessary clock reference for the whole module operation. The A20737A and A20737C modules use a 24 MHz crystal.  Power Management o Power management ensures a stable supply for the internal functions, as well as providing means for a low power sleep mode.
