The Tru-Test XRP EID Reader System identifies and reads electronic tags on individual animals, allowing for accurate traceability and management of stock. The Tru-Test Cattle Antenna or Tru-Test Sheep Antenna is connected to a Tru-Test XRP EID Reader which may be connected to a weigh scale indicator or a PC. Tru-Test Indicator EID Tag Cattle Crush Tru-Test Load Bars Tru-Test Cattle Antenna Tru-Test XRP EID Reader This diagram is an example of how the Tru-Test XRP EID Reader System works in practice. Here, a cow has entered a cattle crush. Its EID tag is sensed by the Tru-Test Cattle Antenna, read by the Tru-Test XRP EID Reader and passed to the Tru-Test Indicator. At the same time, the animal’s weight is recorded automatically as it stands on the Tru-Test Load Bars beneath the crush. The antenna’s robust construction materials and design allow it to be fitted to most animal handling systems (e.g. a crush/chute, weigh crate or drafter) without structural modification. Note: The animal handling system being used must allow animals to be processed one at a time. Races where animals can run side by side are not appropriate for use with the XRP EID Reader System. Animal flow must be restricted to a single animal in order to ensure each individual electronic tag is read accurately during a session. 1 EID = Electronic Identification. This term is equivalent to RFID = Radio Frequency Identification, in respect of this and similar products. 3 Parts and accessories Parts of the Tru-Test Cattle Antenna Parts of the Tru-Test Sheep Antenna Accessories 4 x rubber spacers 4 x 100 mm hex bolts 4 x 80 mm U-bolts 8 x hex nuts 8 x 16 mm OD flat washers 5 x cable ties Accessories 4 x rubber spacers 4 x wood screws 4 x 100 mm hex bolts 4 x 57 mm U-bolts 8 x hex nuts 8 x 16 mm OD flat washers 5 x cable ties 4 Selecting a suitable location for the antenna Positioning the antenna within the crush/chute, weigh crate or drafter The antenna is best installed on the outside of a crush/chute, weigh crate or drafter so that the antenna is not damaged by animal movement. The positioning of the antenna is important to obtain an effective read of the EID tag. The diagram below shows the shape of the read zone (grey) in relation to the size of the animal. Antenna Antenna R ead zoneRead zone EID tag EID tag Mounting distances for Tru-Test Cattle Antenna The Tru-Test Cattle Antenna should be mounted approximately 200-400 mm from the front of the crush/chute, weigh crate or drafter. The bottom of the antenna should be 500-700 mm above floor level. Mounting distances for Tru-Test Sheep Antenna The Tru-Test Sheep Antenna should be mounted approximately 100-200 mm from the front of the weigh crate or drafter. The bottom of the antenna should be 100-200 mm above floor level. Note: The measurements supplied are only a guide. The antenna position will vary depending on the size of the animals you are managing. Positioning the antenna on the correct side of the crush/chute, weigh crate or drafter For the best read results, the antenna should be positioned on the same side that the EID tags are affixed to the animal. For cattle, Australian NLIS and New Zealand NAIT standards specify that EID tags must be attached to the animal’s right ear (when looking from the back of the animal), therefore in these regions, the cattle antenna should be installed on the co…

The system comes with two antennas that are suitable for operating with sheep (small antenna) and with cattle (large antenna). When a tag is successfully read a green LED is illuminated on the EID reader along with an audible beep. The tag details are then output to a PC using a serial port link using Hyperterminal. Model variant: TRU-TEST XRP-1 Standard EID Reader This report can also be used to show compliance with the TRU-TEST XRP-1 Standard EID Reader which is a scaled down version of the XRP-1S which has been tested. The XRP-1 version has no external SYNC connectors and the internal wire loom to the PCB is not connected. In all other respects the samples are electrically identical. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Page 6 of 35 Test Report No 110120.1c 12 March 2011 This report may not be reproduced except in full. 6.
