Users Manual

Quick Install Guide ARCFlex™ 802.11bgn Module Operation The ARCFlex™ 802.11bgn Module is a high power wireless module board designed to be integrated into indoor and outdoor wireless systems. Please follow the following instruction while using this module. This module is meant to be operated (and used) by system integrators who are aware of the regulatory requirements in the area it is being used. The following instructions need to be followed while using the module: •Before inserting the module in a host board, please power down the host board first. •The antenna port (u.fl connector) should be connected to the appropriate load or antenna before powering up the host board. Lack of Antenna (or load) while the module is powered up may cause damage to the card. •Please make sure any person handling the card with bare hands follows proper ESD precautions. Improper handling could cause ESD damage. •The card should not be tampered or modified in any way. Tampering or modification could cause the module to fail standard tests. Note: This card is designed to be installed, operated, and used by system integrators and/or professional installers. As such, the product is required to comply with all applicable FCC equipment authorization regulations, requirements and equipment functions not associated with the transmitter module. The OEM is responsible for demonstration of compliance to regulations for non-transmitter components within the host product to requirements for unintentional radiators (Part 15B), such as digital devices and to additional authorization requirements for the non-transmitter functions of the transmitter module (i.e., Verification, or Declaration of Conformity) (e.g., Bluetooth and WiFi transmitter modules). FCC Information Electronic Emission Notices This device complies with CFR 47 Part 15 of the FCC rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: •This device may not cause harmful interference. •This device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. FCC Frequency Interference Statement This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to CFR47 Part 15. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the equipment is operated in a residential environment, not withstanding use in commercial, business and industrial environment. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. There is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures: FCC Radiation Exposure Statement To comply with FCC RF exposure requirements in section 1.1307, a minimum separation distance of 3.3 inches is required between the antenna and all occupational persons, and a minimum separation distance of 7.1 inches is required between the antenna and all public persons. Antenna Installation WARNING: It is installerʼs responsibility to ensure that when using the authorized antennas in the United States (or where FCC rules apply), only those antennas certified with the product are used. The use of any antenna other than those certified with the product is expressly forbidden in accordance to FCC rules CFR47 part 15.204. The installer should configure the output power level of antennas, according to country regulations and per antenna type. Professional installation is required of equipment with connectors to ensure compliance with health and safety issues. Antenna Compliance The ARCFlex™ 802.11bgn Module has been tested and certified with the following antennas: •On-board chip antenna •5dBi omni antenna Any antenna of same make and lower gain than those listed above may be used in compliance with certification. FCC Caution To assure continued compliance, any changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user's authority to operate this equipment.

Identification of whether the information is available to the public and the extent of any previous disclosure of the information to third parties: To the knowledge of those preparing this application, the information has not been disclosed publicly heretofore. While the general theory of operation of this equipment has been the subject of numerous disclosures in industry and standards groups as well as in rule making proceedings of the FCC, the protection sought is narrowly drawn and pertains to certain specific implementations of this radio technology. 8. Justification of the period during which the submitting party asserts that the material should not be available for public disclosure: This material should not be disclosed for at least 25 years. While improvements in design are made relatively frequently, disclosure of the design information would lead to insights into both design and manufacturing techniques that could have an adverse competitive effect for many years to come. This equipment is designed for commercial, industrial, and governmental applications. As such, unlike most consumer equipment, this equipment could be used for more than a decade in some cases. As such, it is important that the design not be made available to unauthorized persons who might attempt to use knowledge of the design to compromise the applications for which the equipment will be employed. The transmitter module is a complete RF transmitter containing its own reference oscillator, antenna etc. The connections available on the module are for power and data interface only. Below please find information, addressing each requirement from RSS-GEN and CFR 47 15.212. Per RSS-GEN (a) The module must be a complete radio transmitter with its own reference oscillator, antenna, etc. The only connectors to the module, if any, are power supply and modulation/data inputs. Clarification: The ARCFlex 802.11bgn Module offers connection for power supply and modulation/data inputs only. (b) The module has its own RF shielding. Clarification: The ARCFlex 802.11bgn Module is produced with permanently attached RF shield during production. (c) The module must have buffered modulation/data input(s) (if such inputs are provided) to ensure that the module will comply with RSS-210 requirements under conditions of excessive data rates or over-modulation. Clarification: The ARCFlex 802.11bgn Module buffers the modulation and data inputs ensuring compliance with regulations. (d) The module has its own power supply regulation. This is to ensure that the module will comply with RSS-210 requirements regardless of the design of the power supplying circuitry in the host device, which houses the module. Clarification: The ARCFlex 802.11bgn Module incorporates regulators to ensure operation in specified range. (e) The certification submission contains a detailed description of the configuration of all antennas that will be used with the module. The physical crystal and tuning capacitors may be located external to the shielded radio elements. Clarification: The ARCFlex 802.11bgn Module is produced with permanently attached RF shield during production. (ii) The modular transmitter must have buffered modulation/data inputs (if such inputs are provided) to ensure that the module will comply with part 15 requirements under conditions of excessive data rates or over-modulation. Clarification: The ARCFlex 802.11bgn Module buffers the modulation and data inputs ensuring compliance with regulations. (iii) The modular transmitter must have its own power supply regulation. Clarification: The ARCFlex 802.11bgn Module incorporates regulators to ensure operation in specified range. (iv) The modular transmitter must comply with the antenna and transmission system requirements of §§ 15.203, 15.204(b) and 15.204(c). The antenna must either be permanently attached or employ a ‘‘unique’’ antenna coupler (at all connections between the module and the antenna, including the cable). The ‘‘professional installation’’ provision of § 15.203 is not applicable to modules but can apply to limited modular approvals under paragraph (b) of this section. Clarification: The ARCFlex 802.11bgn Module incorporates compliant unique antenna connector and/or integral antenna system. (v) The modular transmitter must be tested in a stand-alone configuration. i.e., the module must not be inside another device during testing for compliance with part 15 requirements. Unless the transmitter module will be battery powered, it must comply with the AC line conducted requirements found in § 15.207. AC or DC power lines and data input/output lines connected to the module must not contain ferrites, unless they will be marketed with the module (see § 15.27(a)). The length of these lines shall be the length typical of actual use or, if that length is unknown, at least 10 centimeters to insure that there is no coupling between the case of the module and supporting equipment. Any accessories, peripherals, or support equipment connected to the module during testing shall be unmodified and commercially available (see § 15.31(i)). Clarification: The ARCFlex 802.11bgn Module was tested in a stand-alone configuration (placed on development/interface fixture) without enclosure. (vi) The modular transmitter must be equipped with either a permanently affixed label or must be capable of electronically displaying its FCC identification number. Clarification: The ARCFlex 802.11bgn Module has required labeling placed on the module and instruction for placement on exterior of end product. (vii) The modular transmitter must comply with any specific rules or operating requirements that ordinarily apply to complete transmitter and manufacturer must provide adequate instructions along with module to explain any such requirements. Clarification: The ARCFlex 802.11bgn Module complies with all specific applicable rules and regulatory precautions are addressed in manual. (viii) The modular transmitter must comply with any applicable RF exposure requirements in its final configuration. This is an OEM transmitter module approved for use in products operating as a mobile transmitting device with respect to 2.1091. MPE compliance was demonstrated with a typical antenna(s) gain as shown in the filing. Products operating with this module are required to provide a minimum separation distance of 20cm. Grantee must coordinate with OEM integrators to ensure the end-users of products operating with this module are provided with operating instructions to satisfy RF exposure requirements. Separate approval is required for all other operating configurations, including portable configurations with respect to 2.1093 and different antenna configurations.
