Philips Universal Remotes let you replace a broken or lost remote or combine more than one remote into one. In addition, this remote is equipped with a command learning feature which lets the remote learn commands from your original equipment remote control! This remote control operates the common features of most but not all models and brands of IR Infrared Controlled Video Equipment. This remote may provide functions that are not available on your equipment. Some functions of your particular equipment (e.g. menu functions) may not be controlled by this remote. In such cases, use the original remote control for your equipment. Please use this manual to become familiar with your Philips Universal Remote. After you are familiar with your remote the first thing you need to do is to install batteries and setup your remote for your particular product and brand. The remote also transmits wireless Radio Fre- quency (RF) commands to the video sender. The video sender receives these commands and converts them to regular Infrared (IR) commands. These IR commands are then emitted from an IR Extender cable to control your A/V components. This lets you control your A/V components from ANY room in your home - you don’t need to aim the remote at your component! Thank you for buying a Philips remote and we hope it will give you many years of service. 54 Button Functions, cont. Button Functions Note: The REC button must be pressed TWICE to record from your VCR. For some brands of VCRs, you might need to press the REC button once, then press it again for three seconds. Some buttons on the remote might have functions that are referred to by different names on the device you are controlling. E.G. PREV.CHAN may be called RECALL, or ENTER may be called DISPLAY. These differences depend on the brand and model of your product. Also, this remote can only operate features that exist on your product. E.G., your product must have PREV.CHAN ability for the PREV.CHAN button to operate this feature. 1. TV, VCR, DVD,CBL, AUX, CD, SAT Selects product to be operated. 2. NUMBERS Enter numbers for direct channel selection. Some products require Enter to be pressed after channel selection. 3. ENTER Used after direct channel number entry to immediately change to the selected channel. 4. MENU brings up the DVD disc Menu screen - use with the UP, DOWN, LEFT & RIGHT navigation buttons. 5. GUIDE brings up the DVD Title Menu screen. Displays on-screen program guide. 6. VOLUME UP/DOWN Changes the volume level of the product, normally the TV. 7. UP, DOWN, LEFT & RIGHT navigation buttons. 8. OK Selects menu items for the device you are controlling. 9. PREV. CHAN Returns to the previously selected channel, or DVD repeat toggle. REPEAT A-B performs DVD players “A-B Repeat” (or RPT A.B) function for repeat play of current Chapter or Track. 10. PIP TV Picture-in- Picture control. 11. CC (SUBTITLE) TV Closed Caption (if your TV has this feature) or DVD Subtitle toggle. 12. LEARN Used to setup learning functions. 13. RECORD, PLAY, STOP, REW, FF, PAUSE VCR control buttons operate your VCR even when the remote is set to operate the TV. Also operates DVD Scan -/+. 14. CODE SEARCH Used for setup. 15. SLEEP Turns off the TV after a period of 1 to 99 minutes. 16. MUTE Turns off the TV sound while the picture remains. 17. TOGGLE Swaps TV PIP screens. 18. CHANNEL UP/DOWN Changes the channels. CHAPTER +/- controls DVD/CD track selection i.e. DVD/CD Track Skip Up/Down (in DVD and SAT modes). Note the VCR buttons also control DVD when in DVD Mode. 19. QUIT Used to exit menu functions. 20. INFO/SELECT Displays/selects on-screen channel information, etc. 21. TV/VCR/INPUT For some TVs, press repeatedly to select from available viewing sources (antenna, cable box, VCR, etc.). 22. Operational Description

Model PM725T Operational Description The model PM725T is a radio frequency transmitter utilized to transmit radio frequency commands to a video sender. The device transmits when the user of the remote depresses any of the buttons. When a button is depressed, the 418 MHz pulsed RF transmitter transmits the appropriate pulse code to the video sender.

Transmission ends within 5 seconds of deactivation. 15.231 (a)(3): The transmitter does not perform periodic transmissions or the transmitter performs periodic transmissions at predetermined intervals greater than 1 hour apart and are shorter than 1 second in duration. 15.231 (b): The fundamental field strength did not exceed 10333.3 μV/M (Average) at a test distance of 3 meters. In addition, the requirements of section 15.35 for averaging pulsed emissions and for limiting peak emissions were met. The field strength of harmonic and spurious emissions did not exceed 1033.3 μV/M (AVERAGE). 15.231 (c) The Bandwidth of the emission was no wider than 0.25% of the center frequency (63.8 kHz) as measured 20 db down from the modulated carrier. Retlif Testing Laboratories, Test Report R-11452-1, X10 (USA), Inc., FCC ID: BS4PM725T Page 3 of 21 DETERMINATION OF FIELD STRENGTH LIMITS The field strength limits shown below are found in Section 15.231: Frequency Limit F1 = 260 3750 = L1 Fo = 418MHz Lo F2 = 470 12500 = L2 The formula below was utilized to determine the limits: Limit = L1 + [(Fo-F1)(L2-L1)/(F2-F1)] Solving Yields Fundamental Limit = 10333.3 μV/M (AVERAGE) @ 3 Meters Harmonic Limit = 1033.3 μV/M (AVERAGE) @ 3 Meters DUTY CYCLE DETERMINATION The unit’s RF output was directly coupled to the input of the spectrum analyzer. The analyzer was set for a frequency span of 0 Hz. The sweep time was then adjusted in order to display one full pulse train. The transmitter on time was then summed and compared to the time for one full cycle in order to obtain the duty cycle. (See plots for additional information). Transmitter On Time = 25.76 milliseconds (maximum per cycle) Transmitter Cycle Time = 100.8 milliseconds (100 ms maximum) Transmitter Duty Cycle =26 % CALCULATION 1 Large Pulse =8.6 milliseconds 33 x 520 μs (small pulse) = 17.16 milliseconds 8.6 + 17.16= 25.76 milliseconds Duty Cycle (25.76/100)*100 =26.0 % Correction Factor =20 log (0.26)= -11.7 dB Retlif Testing Laboratories, Test Report R-11452-1, X10 (USA), Inc., FCC ID: BS4PM725T Page 4 of 21 SPECTRUM ANALYZER DESENSITIZATION CONSIDERATIONS Due to the nature of the emissions being measured, care was taken to ensure that the resolution bandwidth of the spectrum analyzer was adequate to provide accurate measurements. The following formula was utilized: 1/{minimum pulse width (in seconds) x 1.5} = Hz Setting pulse desensitization equal to zero and utilizing the minimum observed pulse width of 520 μs yields a minimum required bandwidth of 900.0 Hz. FCC specified bandwidths of 100 kHz and 1 MHz were utilized below and above 1 GHz, respectively. GENERAL NOTES 1. All readings were taken utilizing a peak detector function at a test distance of 3 meters. 2. The duty cycle was applied to the peak readings in order to determine the average value of the emissions. 3. The frequency range was scanned from 30 MHz to 4.18 GHz. All emissions not reported were more than 20 dB below the specified limit.
