Installing or Replacing Batteries1. Pull down the LOCK tab to remove the battery compartment cover. 2. Insert your NiCAD battery pack or four AAA batteries. Position batteries according to polarity markings. ( NOTE: NiCAD batteries are included with your microTALK ® radio. When not using your NiCADs, always use high quality alkaline batteries.Recharge NiCAD battery pack according to theinstructions for the FA-CG charger.) With the microphone about 2 inches (5 cm) from your mouth, speak in a normal voice. 3. Release the button when you’re finished talking and listen for a response. Operational Description: User pushes button on side of FRS, talks into mike, transmitter antenna sends hertizan waves. User releases button, listens for reply on integral receiver.
FRS 130 TX alignment procedure 1) Adjust power supply to 6V, turn on the unit. 2) In RX mode, set to CH1, measure the VCO voltage. 3) Adjust the VCO voltage to 0.8V by tuning the coil L9. 4) Press PTT button, the unit then in TX mode, the VCO voltage will change to about 0.8V +/- 0.2V. 5) Measure the TX frequency, adjust the frequency to 462.5625MHz +/- 100Hz by Variable-capacitor TC1 (30pF). 6) Also measure the TX power within the range 500mW +/- 100mW. 7) Release the PTT button, change to CH14. 8) Press the PTT button again, measure the TX frequency which must be 467.7125MHz +/-300Hz and also measure the TX power as in step 6. 9) The VCO voltage in CH14 TX mode must less than 2.9V.
Safety Information For FRS UNIT Your wireless handheld portable transceiver contains a low power transmitter. When the PTT button is pushed it sends out radio frequency (RF) signals. The device is authorized to operate at a duty factor not to exceed 50%. In August 1996, the Federal Communications Commissions (FCC) adopted RF exposure guidelines with safety levels for hand-held wireless devices. Important: To maintain compliance with the FCC s RF exposure guidelines hold the transmitter at least 2 inches (5 centimeters) from your face and speak in a normal voice, with the antenna pointed up and away. If you wear the handset on your body while using the headset accessory, use only the Cobra supplied belt clip for this product and ensure that the antenna is at least 1 inch (2.5 centimeters) from your body when transmitting. If the distance between the antenna and the body is LESS THAN 1.0”(2.5cm) DO NOT USE THIS DEVICE IN THE BODY WORN CONFIGURATION. Use only the supplied antenna. Unauthorized antennas, modifications, or attachments could damage the transmitter and may violate FCC regulations. Normal Position: Hold the transmitter approximately 2” from your face and speak in a normal voice, with the antenna pointed up and away.

The FRS 130 is a portable, battery operated, UHF, frequency modulated transceiver intended for 12.5 kHz channel family radio service applications in the 462.5625-467.7125 MHz band. It operates from a nominal 6.0 Vdc battery supply. MFR rated output power is 0.5 watts ERP(d). B. GENERAL INFORMATION REQUIRED FOR TYPE CERTIFICATION (Paragraph 2.983 of the Rules) 1. RF Power Output (Paragraph 2.985(a) of the Rules) The FRS 130 has a permanently attached built-in antenna without provisions for a coaxial connector. RF power output was determined by substitution. Reference level was audio signal output from a Boonton 8220 modulation meter with one kHz deviation. Audio output was measured with an Audio Precision System One integrated test system. 2. Modulation limiting curves are shown in Figure 2, using a Boonton 8220 modulation meter. Signal level was established with a Audio Precision System One integrated test system. The curves show compliance with paragraphs 2.987(b). 3. Figure 3 is a graph of the post-limiter low pass filter which provides a roll-off of 60Logf/3 dB where f is audio frequency in kHz. Measurements were made following EIA RS-152B with an Audio Precision System One integrated test system on the Boonton 8220 modulation meter audio output. 3 4. Occupied Bandwidth (Paragraphs 2.989(c) of the Rules) Figure 4 is a plot of the sideband envelope of the transmitter output taken with a Tektronix 494P spectrum analyzer. Modulation corresponded to conditions of 2.989(c)(1) and consisted of 2500 Hz tone at an input level 16 dB greater than that necessary to produce 50% modulation at 2169 Hz, the frequency of maximum response. Measured modulation under these conditions was 1.9 kHz.
