Handle the radio gently. Keep the radio away from dust. Never put the radio in water or in a damp place. Avoid exposure to extreme temperatures. Rechargeable Batteries and Desktop Charger • To install or replace batteries: 1.Remove belt clip by releasing belt clip latch and sliding clip up. 2.Pull up on the battery door latch to the battery compartment cover. 3.Insert batteries according to polarity markings. 4.Replace battery compartment cover and belt clip. Estimated operation time on full charge: 12 hours. These rechargeable batteries must be recycled or disposed of properly in compliance with all applicable laws. They may not be thrown in the trash. Certain states or municipalities require recycling and have established collection programs. Please contact your local waste removal authority for instructions, or return to Cobra ® for recycling. Wrap batteries carefully and mail postage prepaid to: Cobra Electronics Corporation, 6500 West Cortland Street, Chicago, IL 60707 USA, Attn: Battery Recycling. Do not put batteries into fire or expose to high heat. They may explode. Remove Belt Clip Pull Up Lock Latch Insert Batteries PR4500WX.qxd 9/1/06 3:43 PM Page 1 2 Using Your Radio Operation For charging microTALK radio(s) in desktop charger: 1.Insert radio(s) into desktop charger as shown. 2.Insert round connector of 120-volt adapter into jack on back of charger. 3.Plug 120-volt adapter into electrical outlet. If charging light is not on, check position of radio. Radio should be upright. The charge indicator light will stay onas long as the radio is in the charging well, even after the batteries are fully charged. It normally takes about 15 hours to fully rechargebatteries. Batteries will not be damaged if they stay in the charging well longer than that. Note:To charge a single radio, you can bypass the desktop charger and simply insert the wall adapter’s round connector directly into the speaker/microphone/charge jack located on the top of the radio. Use only the supplied rechargeable batteries and charger for recharging your Cobra microTALK radio. Cobra recommends your radio is turned offwhile being charged. Alignment instructions WARNING Any repairs or adjustments should be made under the supervision of a qualified radio technician. TRANSMITTER 1.Power Supply Voltage The Power supply voltage should be set for 6.0VDC measured at the radio during transmit. Periodically check the power supply voltage during the alignment procedure. 2.Frequency Setting A. Connect a frequency counter or Communications Service Monitor to the antenna through an RF power attenuator (10 watt minimum rating, 20 dB minimum attenuation). B. Depress the PTT switch. C. Adjust the (VR104) such that the output frequency is equal to the channel frequency with a maximum error of +/- 200 Hz. D. Release the PTT switch. 3. Output Power Alignment. A. Set the power supply voltage for 6.0VDC. B. Connect a Communications Service Monitor or a wattmeter and dummy load to the antenna connector. C. Depress the PTT switch. D. To be convinced for 1.0(0.5) Watt output power with a maximum error of +/- 0.5(0.4-0.8) Watt. E. Release the PTT switch. 4. Deviation Adjustment. A. Connect an audio generator to the microphone jack JK101.The audio frequency Should be set at 1 KHz. B. Connect an FM deviation meter or Communications Service Monitor to the antenna connector through an RF power attenuator (10 watt minimum rating, 20 dB minimum attenuation). Set the monitor to read peak deviation. C. Depress the PTT switch. D. Adjust the audio generator level 100 mV rms. E. Adjust VR101 for +/- 2.2 KHz maximum deviation. (With CTCSS tone) F. To be convinced +/- 2.0KHz without CTCSS tone.(1.5KHz dev. 20dB up) g. Release the PTT switch. RECEIVER NOTE: Insure that the proper channel has been selected before preceding with the alignment procedure. 1. Power Supply Voltage The proper voltage for testing is 6.0 VDC. 2. Receiver Alignment A. Connect an RF signal generator or Communications Service Monitor to the antenna connector. B. Connect a SINAD meter and oscilloscope across the speaker terminals. C. Set the output level of the RF signal generator for -47 dBm. The generator should be set for +/- 1.5 KHz deviation of a 1 KHz tone. D. Set the audio output level for 0.6 Vrms. by adjusting volume. E. Reduce the output level of the RF signal generator for produce a 6-12 dB SINAD indication.
