Remove belt clip by releasing belt clip latch and sliding clip up. 2.Pull Down on the battery door latch to remove the battery compartment cover. 3.Insert GA-BN batteries according to polarity markings. 4.Replace battery compartment cover and belt clip. Estimated operation time on full charge: 15 hours. These rechargeable batteries must be recycled or disposed of properly in compliance with all applicable laws. They may not be thrown in the trash. Insert radio(s) as shown. 2. Insert round connector of 120 volt adapter into jack on back of charger. 3. Plug 120 volt adapter into electrical outlet. If charging light is not on, check position of radio. Radio should be upright. The charge indicator light will stay on as long as the radio is in the charging well, even after the batteries are fully charged. It normally takes about 15 hours to fully recharge batteries. Batteries will not be damaged if they stay in the charging well longer than that. Not all radio models include charge contacts. Each port can charge one radio. Uses 120 Volt adapter. Customer Assistance WarrantyIntroduction Operation 12 English Mode Functions Operation 13 Nothing Comes Close to a Cobra ® Voice Activated Transmit (VOX) • In VOX mode, your microTALK ® radio can be used “hands-free,” automatically transmitting when you speak. You can set the VOX sensitivity level to fit the volume of your voice and avoid transmissions triggered by background noise. To turn VOX mode on or off: 1. Press the Lock/Modebutton until the VOX icon flashes on the display. The current on or off setting is displayed. 2.Press the Channel Upor Channel Down button to turn VOX on or off. 3.Choose one of the following: a.Press the Lock/Modebutton to enter the selected on or off setting and proceed to other functions. b.Press the Hi•Low/Enterbutton to enter the selected on or off setting and return to Standby mode. To set VOX sensitivity: 1. Press the Lock/Modebutton until the VOX icon flashes and the current sensitivity level is displayed. 8. Alignment instructions WARNING Any repairs or adjustments should be made under the supervision of a qualified radiotelephone technician. TRANSMITTER 1.Power Supply Voltage The Power supply voltage should be set for 6.0VDC measured at the radio during transmit. Periodically check the power supply voltage during the alignment procedure. 2.Frequency Setting A. Connect a frequency counter or Communications Service Monitor to the Antenna through an RF power attenuator (10 watt minimum rating, 20 dB minimum attenuation). B. Depress the PTT switch. C. Adjust the CTX1 trimmer capacitor such that the output frequency is equal to the channel frequency with a maximum error of +/- 200 Hz. D. Release the PTT switch. 3. Output Power Alignment. A. Set the power supply voltage for 6.0VDC. B. Connect a Communications Service Monitor or a wattmeter and dummy load to the antenna connector. C. Depress the PTT switch. D. To be convinced for 3.0(0.5) Watt output power with a maximum error of +/- 0.3(0.4-0.8) Watt. E. Release the PTT switch. 4. Deviation Adjustment. A. Connect an audio generator to the microphone jack JIG. The audio frequency Should be set at 1 KHz. B. Connect an FM deviation meter or Communications Service Monitor to the antenna connector through an RF power attenuator (10 watt minimum rating, 20 dB minimum attenuation). Set the monitor to read peak deviation. C. Depress the PTT switch. D. Adjust the audio generator level 100 mV rms. E. Adjust VR4 for +/- 2.2 KHz maximum deviation. (With CTCSS tone) F. To be convinced +/- 2.0KHz without CTCSS tone.(1.5KHz dev. 20dB up) G. Release the PTT switch. RECEIVER NOTE: Insure that the proper channel has been selected before preceding with the alignment procedure. 1. Power Supply Voltage The proper voltage for testing is 6.0 VDC. 2. Receiver Alignment A. Connect an RF signal generator or Communications Service Monitor to the antenna connector. B. Connect a SINAD meter and oscilloscope across the speaker terminals. C. Set the output level of the RF signal generator for -47 dBm. The generator should be set for +/- 1.5 KHz deviation of a 1 KHz tone. D. Set the audio output level for 0.6 Vrms. by adjusting volume. E. Reduce the output level of the RF signal generator for produce a 6-12 dB SINAD indication.
