Channels 8-14 are FRS only. Channels15-22 are GMRS only. 1. With the radio on, select any of the 22 channels by pushing the CHANNEL SELECT button up or down. (N O T E :Both radios must be tuned to the same channel to communicate.) Selecting a CTCSS Privacy Code CTCSS (Continuous Tone Coded Squelch System) is an advanced tone coding system allowing you to select one of 38 privacy codes to reduce interference from other users on the channel. (NOTE:If you are using a privacy code, both radios must be tuned to the same channel and privacy code to communicate. Each channel will remember the last privacy code you selected.) To select a privacy code: 1. After selecting a main channel, press and release the MODE button. A small number will flash next to the channel in the LCD. 2. Push the CHANNEL SELECT button up or down to select a privacy code. You can hold the button up or down for fast advance. 3. When your desired privacy code is displayed, press and release the ENTER button. 4. To return to Standby mode without selecting a privacy code, do not push any buttons for 15 seconds. Calling Another Person To alert another person that you are calling: 1. Press and release the CALL button. The other person will hear a 2-second ringing tone. (See page 12 on how to select between 10 call tone settings.) You cannot send or receive transmissions during the 2-second call tone. O P E R AT I O NENGLISH 4 Installing or Replacing Batteries 1.Pull down the LOCK tab to remove the battery compartment cover. 2.Insert your NiMH batteries or four AAA batteries. Position batteries according to polarity markings. (NOTE:NiMH batteries are included with your microTALK ® radio. When not using your NiMH’s, always use high quality alkaline batteries. See page 16 for optional accessories.) Turning On Your microTALK ® Radio 1. Rotate the ON-OFF/VOLUME switch clockwise to turn on the unit (and to adjust the volume). An audible tone will indicate the radio is on. 2. Your microTALK ® is now in Standby mode, ready to receive transmissions. The radio is always in Standby mode except when the TALK, CALL, or MODE buttons are pressed. Battery Low Battery power is indicated by the segments appearing at the bottom of the LCD. As battery power decreases, fewer segments will be visible. When the last segment begins to flash, the batteries included with your radio should be recharged or alkaline batteries should be replaced. Auto Battery Save Your microTALK ® radio has a unique circuit designed to extend battery life. If there are no transmissions within 10 seconds, the unit will automatically switch to Battery Save mode and POWER SAVER will appear in the display. This will not affect the unit’s ability to receive incoming transmissions. Press and hold the LIGHT/MAX RANGE button for 5 seconds. You will hear 2 beeps indicating that Maximum Range Extender is on. 2. To turn Maximum Range Extender off, press and hold the LIGHT/MAX RANGE button for 1 second, or change channels. Using the Lock Function The Lock function locks the CHANNEL, MODE and ENTER buttons to prevent accidental operation. To use the Lock function: 1. Ref: BBOPR950DXD; EA278847 Cobra Electronics Corporation OPERATIONAL DESCRIPTION: The PR950DXD transceiver operates on both the General Mobile Service (GMRS) and Family Radio Service (FRS) frequencies. The radio will provide 0.831 watt ERP(d) when transmitting on GMRS frequencies (462.5500- 462.7250 MHz) and 0.478 watt ERP(d) on FRS specific frequencies (467.5625-467.7125 MHz). The RF power output of the PR950DXD is controlled by the internal microprocessor. When operating on a GMRS channel, the RF PA operating conditions are set by the microprocessor to provide 0.831 watt ERP(d). To extend battery life, a user power output control option is available to reduce the output power to 0.478W ERP. This option is only available when operating on a GMRS channel. When operating on an FRS channel, the microprocessor sets the RF PA operating conditions to those necessary to produce 0.478W ERP. There is no user power output control option w hen operating on an FRS channel. The power output is fixed at 0.478W ERP whenever an FRS channel is selected. It is required that the user obtain an FCC license to operate on the GMRS frequencies. This is specified in the users manual along with information on where to obtain the necessary application forms.

BBOPR950DXD Transmitter Alignment Instructions WARNING Any repairs or adjustments should be made under the supervision of a qualified radiotelephone technician. 1.Power Supply Voltage The Power supply voltage should be set for 6.0VDC measured at the radio during transmit. Periodically check the power supply voltage during the alignment procedure. 2.Frequency Setting A. Couple a frequency counter or Communications Service Monitor to the antenna through an RF power attenuator (10 watt minimum rating, 20 dB minimum attenuation). B. Depress the PTT switch. C. Adjust the CTX1 trimmer capacitor such that the output frequency is equal to the channel frequency with a maximum error of +/- 200 Hz. D. Release the PTT switch. 3. Deviation Adjustment. A. Connect an audio generator to the microphone jack JIG. The audio frequency Should be set at 1 KHz. B.Couple a Communications Service Monitor to the antenna through an RF power attenuator (10 watt mi ni mu m rating, 20 dB minimum attenuation).Set the monitor to read peak deviation. C. Depress the PTT switch. D. Adjust the audio generator level 100 mV rms. E. Adjust RVM1 for +/- 2.2 KHz maximum deviation. (With CTCSS tone) F. Confirm +/- 2.0KHz without CTCSS tone.(1.5KHz dev. 20dB up) G. Release the PTT switch.

Safety Information For FRS/GMRS UNIT Your wireless handheld portable transceiver contains a low power transmitter. When the PTT button is pushed it sends out radio frequency (RF) signals. The device is authorized to operate at a duty factor not to exceed 50%. In August 1996, the Federal Communications Commissions (FCC) adopted RF exposure guidelines with safety levels for hand-held wireless devices. Important: To maintain compliance with the FCC s RF exposure guidelines hold the transmitter at least 2 inches (5 centimeters) from your face and speak in a normal voice, with the antenna pointed up and away. If you wear the handset on your body while using the headset accessory, use only the Cobra supplied belt clip for this product and ensure that the antenna is at least 1 inch (2.5 centimeters) from your body when transmitting. If the distance between the antenna and the body is LESS THAN 1.0”(2.5cm) DO NOT USE THIS DEVICE IN THE BODY WORN CONFIGURATION. Use only the supplied antenna. Unauthorized antennas, modifications, or attachments could damage the transmitter and may violate FCC regulations. Normal Position: Hold the transmitter approximately 2” from your face and speak in a normal voice, with the antenna pointed up and away.

My education and experience are a matter of record with the Federal Communications Commission. Hyak Laboratories, Inc. has been authorized by Cobra Electronics Corporation to make certification measurements on the PR950DX transceiver. These tests were made by me or under my supervision in our Springfield laboratory. Test data and documentation required by the FCC for certification are included in this report. The data verifies that the above mentioned transceiver meets FCC requirements and certification is requested. _________________________ Rowland S. Johnson Dated: November 20, 2001 A. INTRODUCTION The following data are submitted in connection with this request for type certification of the PR950DX transceiver in accordance with Part 2, Subpart J of the FCC Rules. The PR950DX is a hand-held, battery operated, UHF, frequency modulated, transceiver intended for voice communications applications under Part 95 GMRS (channels 1-7 or 15-22)* or Part 95 FRS (channels 8-14)*. *See Appendix A for frequency assignment. 1. The unit’s antenna meets 95.647, (i.e. is integral to the transmitter. 2. Except for power, the technical parameters for operating on all the channels (both FRS and GMRS) are the same as those for FRS, (i.e. 12.5 kHz bandwidth, 2.5 ppm frequency tolerance, maximum 2.5 kHz deviation, etc). 3. An informational insert is included inside the box (product package) that clearly informs the consumer (buyer/owner) when the radio is transmitting on GMRS frequencies, that operation on GMRS frequencies requires an FCC license and such operation is subject to additional rules specified in 47 CFR Part 95. A curve showing frequency response of the transmitter is shown in Figure 1. Reference level was audio signal output from a Boonton 8220 modulation meter with one kHz deviation. Audio output was measured with an Audio Precision System One TRMS voltmeter and tracking generator. 2. Modulation limiting curves are shown in Figure 2, using a Boonton 8220 modulation meter. Signal level was established with an Audio Precision System One. The curves show compliance with paragraphs 2.987(b) and 95.633(b). 3 D. MODULATION CHARACTERISTICS (Cont.) 3. Figure 3 is a graph of the post-limiter low pass filter which meets the requirements of paragraph 95.633(b) in providing a roll-off of 60Logf/3 dB where f is audio frequency in kHz. Measurements were made following EIA RS-152B with an Audio Precision System One on the Boonton 8220 modulation meter audio output. 4. Occupied_Bandwidth (Paragraphs 2.989(c), 90.209(b)(4), and 95.629(a) of the Rules) Figure 4a is a plot of the sideband envelope of the transmitter output taken with a Tektronix 494P spectrum analyzer on GMRS Channel 1. Modulation corresponded to conditions of 2.989(c)(1) and consisted of 2500 Hz tone at an input level 16 dB greater than that necessary to produce 50% modulation at 2659 Hz, the frequency of maximum response. Figure 4b is a plot under the same conditions for FRS Channel 8. The plots are within the limits imposed by Part 95 for frequency modulation. The horizontal scale (frequency) is 10 kHz per division and the vertical scale (amplitude) is a logarithmic presentation equal to 10 dB per division. 5.
