2. Connecting the Machine This chapter describes how to connect the machine to the network and specify the network settings. Connecting to the Interface This section explains how to identify the machine's interface and connect the machine according to the network environment. • A network interface cable with a ferrite core must be used for RF interference suppression. The slot can accommodate one of the following interface boards: • IEEE1284 interface board: Required if you want to connect an IEEE 1284 cable to this machine. When installed in Slot A, this board allows you to connect the machine to a computer through an IEEE 1284 cable. • Wireless LAN interface unit: Required if you want to connect this machine to a wireless LAN. When installed in Slot A, this unit allows you to connect the machine to an IEEE 802.11 a or IEEE 802.11 b/g wireless LAN. • Bluetooth interface unit: Required if you want to give the machine Bluetooth capability. When installed in Slot A, this unit allows the machine to communicate via Bluetooth with an external device. 2. USB 2.0 [Type B] port Port for connecting the USB2.0 [Type B] interface cable 3. 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX port Port for connecting the 10BASE-T or 100BASE-TX cable 75 2 4. USB Host Interface Port for connecting the USB interface cable Use this interface to connect the machine to a card authentication device or memory card reader. 5. Gigabit Ethernet port (optional) Port for using the 1000BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, or 10BASE-T cable • Slot A can contain one module only: You can install only one IEEE 1284 interface board, one Wireless LAN interface unit, or one Bluetooth interface unit at a time in this slot. • The Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet port cannot be used simultaneously. If the optional Gigabit Ethernet board is installed, connect the Ethernet cable to the port on the Gigabit Ethernet board Communication with the machine will fail if cables are connected to both ports simultaneously. Connecting to the Ethernet Interface This section describes how to connect an Ethernet cable to the Ethernet interface. • If the main power switch is on, turn it off. • Use the following Ethernet cables. • Unshielded Twisted Pair Cable (UTP) or Shielded Twisted Pair Cable (STP) and Category type 5 or more 1. Connecting to the Interface 79 2 Connecting to the USB (Type B) Interface This section describes how to connect the USB2.0 (Type B) interface cable to the USB2.0 port. • Properly shielded and grounded cables and connectors must be used for connections to a host computer (and/or peripheral) in order to meet emission limits. 1. Connect the USB2.0 (Type B) interface cable to the USB2.0 port. BZU013 2. Connect the other end to the USB2.0 port on the host computer. • This machine does not come with a USB interface cable. Make sure you purchase the appropriate cable for the machine and your computer. • The USB2.0 interface board is supported by Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7, Windows Server 2003/2003 R2/2008/2008 R2, Mac OS X 10.3.3 or higher. • To use Macintosh, the machine must be equipped with the optional PostScript 3 unit. Installation Procedure Before installing this fax unit: Print out all data in the printer buffer. Turn off the main power switch and disconnect the power cord and the network cable. Installation Installation-2 1. Remove the controller board [A] ( x 5). 2. Attach the FCU I/F board bracket [A] to the controller board ( x 2). Installation Installation-3 3. Attach the FCU I/F board [A] to the FCU I/F board bracket ( x 4). 4. Attach the support bracket [A] to the controller box ( x 2). 5. Remove the “TEL” and “LINE1” covers with a screw driver. 6. Install the FCU [A] to the controller board ( x 4). 7. Install the speaker [A] to the controller box (x 2) and connect the speaker cable [B] with the speaker relay cable [C] ( x 3). Installation Installation-4 8. Connect the two modular harnesses [A] [B] to the modular bracket [C]. 9. Connect the two modular harnesses [A] [B] to the FCU. 10. Attach the modular bracket [A] to the controller box (x 1). Installation Installation-5 11. Switch the MBU battery jumper switch [A] to “ON” position. Make sure that the MBU board is firmly connected to the FCU. 12. Reinstall the controller box. 13. Attach the handset support bracket and handset bracket to the copier, and then connect the handset cord with the ferrite core to the "TEL" jack if you install the handset to the machine. For details, refer to the "Hand Set Installation" in the Service Manual for the Fax Unit (D393). 14. Attach the ferrite core to the telephone cord. 15. Connect the telephone cord to the "LINE 1" jack. Installation Installation-6 16. Replace bottom from the third key-slot cover [A] to the fax key [B]. 17. Attach the Multi-Language Decals [C] (EU only). 18. Attach the decal [A] (SUPER G3) to the front door. 19. Attach the serial number decal under the copier serial number decal on the rear cover of the machine. 20. Attach FCC decal on the rear cover of the machine (NA only). 21. Put the power plug into the outlet and turn on the main power of the machine. Make sure that the outlet is grounded. "SRAM formatted" shows on the operation panel after you have turned the main switch on. Turn the main switch off and on again for normal use. 22. Make sure that the date and time are correctly set. Installation Installation-7 G3 Interface Unit (D393) Component Check Check the quantity and condition of the components against the following list. Remove the controller box [A] ( x 5). 2. Attach one end (short length) of the flat cable [A] to the connector [B] of the FCU board. 3. Hold the flat cable with two clamps and pass the other end of the flat cable through the cutout as shown above. Installation Installation-9 4. Connect the SG3 interface unit [A] to the controller board [B] with the flat cable ( x 4). 5. Attach four clamps to the brackets. 6. Remove the "LINE2" cover with a screwdriver. Installation Installation-10 7. Attach the socket of harness [A] (LINE2) to the modular bracket [B] for SG3. 8. Connect the harness [A] to the SG3 interface unit [B] ( x 4). 9. Attach the modular bracket for SG3 to the controller box ( x 2). 10. Reinstall the controller box. For Installing the Double G3 Boards 1. Remove one of SG3 boards from the SG3 interface units and then attach the SG3 board to the other SG3 interface unit ( x 2). 2. Remove the controller box. Installation Installation-11 3. Attach one end (short length) of the flat cable [A] to the connector [B] of the FCU board. 4. Hold the flat cable with two clamps and pass the other end of the flat cable through the cutout as shown above. 5. Remove the "LINE2" cover and "LINE3" cover with a screwdriver. 6. Connect the SG3 interface unit [A] to the controller board [B] with the flat cable ( x 4). Installation Installation-12 7. Attach the socket of harness [A] (LINE2) and the socket of harness [C] (LINE3) to the modular bracket for SG3. 8. Connect the harness [A] (LINE2) to the first SG3 board ¶ and the harness [C] (LINE3) to the second SG3 board · ( x 4). 9. Attach the modular bracket for SG3 to the controller box ( x 2). 10. Reinstall the controller box. 11. Attach the ferrite core to the telephone cord for single SG3 board installation, or the two ferrite cores to the telephone cords for double-SG3 board installation. 12. Connect the telephone cord to the "LINE 2" jack for single SG3 board installation, or connect the telephone cords to the "LINE2" and "LINE3" jacks for double-SG3 board installation. 13. Connect the power plug to a power outlet and turn on the main power switch. 14. Enter the service mode. Set bit 1 of communication switch 16 to “1” (SP1-104-023). 15. Set bit 3 of communication switch 16 to "1" (SP1-104-023) if you have installed two SG3 boards. 16. Exit the service mode. 17. Turn the main power switch off and on. 18. Print out the system parameter list. Then check that “G3” shows as an option. 19. Set up and program the items required for PSTN-2 communications. Loading Paper into the Small Size Paper Tray This section describes how to load paper into the small size paper tray. • Check the paper edges are aligned at the right side. 1. Carefully pull out the paper tray until it stops. CAS118 2. Square the paper and load it print side up. Do not stack paper over the limit mark. CAS119 3. Carefully push the paper tray fully in. • When loading a low number of sheets, be sure not to squeeze the side fences in too tightly. If the paper bows, it might not feed in properly. • If a paper tray is pushed vigorously when putting it back into place, the position of the tray's side fences may slip out of place. • Various sizes of paper can be loaded in the small size paper tray by adjusting the positions of side fences and end fence. Set [Letterhead Setting] to [Yes] in [Input / Output] under [Copier / Document Server Features], and then place the original and paper as shown below.
