Not doing so could result in personal injury, death, and/or damage to your Xpress EZ Receiver, accessories, and/or to your vehicle or other property. Xpress EZ should be placed in your vehicle where it will not interfere with the function of safety fea- tures, e.g. deployment of airbags. Failure to correctly place Xpress EZ may result in injury to you or others if the unit becomes detached during an accident and/or obstructs the deployment of an airbag. What’s in the Box? Xpr ess EZ Car Cradle Step 1: Mounting the XM Antenna Mount the XM antenna to the roof or trunk of the vehicle. During installation, make sure you are outdoors and the antenna is not obstructed by tall buildings. For best results mount the XM antenna to the outside of your vehicle. Vehicle Installation The XM antenna contains a strong magnet, allowing it to stick to any metal parts of your vehicle. Step 2: Installing the Vent Mount To install the vent mount, find a horizontal vent that is strong enough to hold your Xpress EZ and car cradle. To remove the vent mount, push it into the vent and lift up- wards slightly to release the mount’s hooks from the vent vane. Some parts of the vent mount can be adjusted to better suit your vehicle’s vent. Step 3: How to receive XM through your car ster eo There are several methods of r eceiving XM through your car stereo Option 1 (I ncluded) XM SureConnect: You can listen to your Xpress EZ through your car stereo by using Xpress EZ ’s built-in FM modulator and the XM SureConnect. Simply find an unused FM frequency on the stereo and set your Xpress EZ to transmit on that same frequency. For XM SureConnect install, please see your XM SureConnect installation guide. Option 2 Professional Wired:If you choose to use the FM Direct Adapter (sold separately) to transmit XM audio through your car stereo, we recommend professional installation. Option 3 Cassette Adapter: Use the cassette adapter (sold separately) if your vehicle’s audio system has a built in cassette player. The cassette adapter will provide the best audio quality. Audio input:Some vehicles come with an audio input jack. If your vehicle has this type of input you can simply use a mini audio cable (sold separately). Step 4: Making yo ur Vehicle’s FM Radio an XM radio. (Options 1 and 2) Your Xpress EZ contains a built-in FM modulator that requires the use of either the included XM Sure- Connect or the optional FM Direct Adapter (sold separately) to transmit the XM audio signal to your vehicle’s FM radio. First, turn on your car stereo. You will need to find a suitable FM frequency in order to get the best sound. A suitable FM frequency is an unused frequency or weak station that is not located near a strong FM station in your area. Next, power on your Xpress EZ . Be sure all of your cables are properly connected. Turn the knob to go to channel 1, this is the preview channel. You will not hear any sound through your car stereo until you have chosen an FM Frequency. Press Menu, look for this screen: Press the XMbutton, then turn the knob to scroll through the frequencies. Match the frequency to the frequency you see on your car’s FM radio. Now you should be able to hear your Xpress EZ through your FM stereo. If you can’t hear any sound please check all of your connections and be sure your XM antenna is not obstructed. Ba si c Controls Turn on your Xpress EZ by pressing and holding the XMbutton. Subscribe to XM if you haven’t done so already. To power down, press and hold the XMbutton. SSeelleeccttiinngg CChhaannnneellss Rotate the knob to scroll through the list of channels. Press the XMbutton to select that channel. You can also set up Xpress EZ so that you do not have to press the XMbutton to select a channel. See “Auto Tune Mode” in your user guide. If you have channels assigned to favorites, press the button several times until you find the favorite channel you would like to listen to. UUssiinngg yyoouurr FFaavvoorriitteess There are 10 user presets that can be stored using the favorites button. To set a channel to your favorites: 1. Turn the knob to find your desired channel, then press the XM button. 2. Press and hold the favoritesbutton for 2 seconds. The stored location for the channel will appear across the top of the display. You can access your favorite channels by pressing the favoritesbutton. When you attempt to add more than 10 favorite channels, your Xpress EZ will give you the option to replace one of your previously saved favorite channels. To replace a Favorite channel: 1. Tune to desired channel. 2. Press and hold favorites button for 2 seconds. You will receive a message stating “ Favorites Full” then you will be prompted to “Replace?”. 3. XM Satellite Radio Inc Additional Information Provided in Response to ATCB Questions dated March 15, 2007 FCC ID BGA-XMXP05 March 19, 2007 Q1) 731 form shows BGAXMXP05 and label shows BGA-XMXP05. Please confirm which is correct and adjust any affected exhibits. Additionally, the 731 form cites XM as the applicant, but I believe the applicant should cite Audiovox. Please review as well. A1) The label is correct. A new form 731 has been uploaded to reflect the proper ID. XM is the applicant, not Audiovox. Q2) The test report does not show an FCC ID. Please update the test report with a reference FCC ID to properly show that it is referenced to this application. A2) A new test report cover page which includes the FCC ID has been uploaded as .pdf file: “FAU Test Report 07-012 Signature Cover-1”. Q3) Page 19 of the users manual appears to suggest the device contains a wireless TX without additional accessories. Please review, explain, and/or correct as necessary. Even if this information may be found within certain exhibits, the FCC requires that we submit the following information in a separate file as part of the “Permit But Ask” procedure. To get this part of the process going, please provide a separate file that provides answers to the following information AS SOON AS POSSIBLE: i. Describe the operation of the device. ii. Provide information on the device and its antenna. iii. How is it installed? iv. Describe the test procedure used. (OAT’s, In situ, etc.) v. If tested in a car, describe how was it configured and tested. vi. At the present time, FM transmitters (subject to 15.239) tested in vehicles must also be tested on a test table. Provide both sets of data. All data must be compliant. vii. Was the tuning range properly verified? The test lab should indicate in the report that the tuning controls were manually adjusted to verify maximum tuning range. viii. Was the bandwidth properly tested with maximum audio input? ix. Use a typical audio file from a typical device. e.g. do not use a 1 kHz signal from a signal generator. x. Provide the test report showing compliance with the rules. Note: We are required to submit this information to the FCC prior to approving. In the past we have already attempted to submit a short set of answers to this that referenced the manual, block diagram or other documents, However the FCC has insisted that this be a separate response which summarizes the question with a direct answer to each question. Please provide. A5) A new file, ‘Xpress EZ Permit But Ask Info’ with the information requested above has been uploaded. 6) For in vehicle testing, the test report shows that the lowest and highest channels do not appear to be used for testing (88.7 vs 88.1 MHz and 107.1 vs. 107.9). In absence of some compelling argument, the FCC asks that the lowest and highest actually be used – especially for occupied bandwidth tests. Note that 731 form cites 88.1 – 107.9 MHz. Please review. A6) High level ambient signals present at the test range made testing of 88.1 and 107.9 impractical. Available frequencies were selected as close to the low, mid, and high end of the usable frequency range as possible. For occupied BW, 88.1 MHz and 107.9 MHz were used, as required. 7) Generally the FCC expects all inputs and outputs to be filled during testing and following published requirements of ANSI C63.4. For radiated tests, please define what ports were utilized and justify as appropriate why certain ports may not be filled (i.e. there is a concern with the audio ports for the in car configuration) Please explain, justify, or correct. A7) For in-vehicle tests, all ports were filled which could be filled without turning off the FM modulator. INTRODUCTION The XM Satellite Radio, Xpress EZ receiver was evaluated for compliance to the FCC Class B requirements and the results apply only to the specific items of equipment, configurations and procedures supplied to the Florida Atlantic University EMI Research Lab by XM Satellite Radio, Inc., as reported in this document. 2. OBJECTIVE Test Specifications This evaluation was performed to verify conformance of the XM Satellite Radio, Inc. Xpress EZ receiver to U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Title 47 - Telecommunication, Part 15 - Radio Frequency Devices, • Subpart B - Unintentional Radiators, Section 15.107(a) Conducted limits, and Section 15.109(a) Radiated Class B Emission limits. • Subpart C – Paragraph 15.239 (a) (b) (c) – Operation in the band 88 MHz to 108 MHz Mode of Operation • During FCC Part 15 Subpart C, Paragraph 15.239 (b)(c) radiated emissions tests, the EUT was configured to transmit a continuous FM signal with normal modulation at 88.1 MHz, 96.9 MHz and 107.9 MHz using the XM Satellite Radio’s FM Coupler attached to a standard FM aerial antenna attached to a large ground plane. • During FCC Part 15 Subpart C, Paragraph 15.239(b)(c), the EUT was also configured to transmit a continuous FM signal with normal modulation at 88.7 MHz, 96.9 MHz and 107.1 MHz in three representative vehicles, using the XM Satellite Radio’s FM Coupler attached to the vehicle’s in-glass FM antennas, in accordance with the intentional radiator limits described in 15.239(b). • During FCC Part 15 Subpart B, Paragraph 15.107(a) conducted emissions tests, the EUT was configured to receive an XM Satellite Radio signal, with the EUT in the Xpress EZ home cradle with the XM Home AC adapter. • During FCC Part 15 Subpart B, Paragraph 15.109(a), the EUT was configured to receive an XM Satellite Radio signal, with the EUT in three different modes: o In an Xpress EZ car cradle, using only an XM Satellite Radio car antenna and an XM Cassette Adapter. o In an Xpress EZ car cradle, using an FM Direct Adapter and car antenna. o In an Xpress EZ home cradle, using only an XM Satellite Radio home antenna. 3. CONCLUSION The XM Satellite Radio, Inc. Xpress EZ receiver met the FCC Class B conducted and radiated emission requirements, as well as the intentional radiation limits, as described in the following pages. Note that throughout the measurements it was verified that the unit could not be programmed outside of the frequency band 88 MHz to 108 MHz. Page 4 of 37 Technical Report No. 07-012 4. TEST PROCEDURES AND RESULTS 4.1 GENERAL TEST PROCEDURES The measurement techniques identified in the measurement procedure of ANSI C63.4-2003 "American National Standard of Measurement of Radio-Noise Emissions from Low-Voltage Electrical and Electronic Equipment in the Range of 9 kHz to 40 GHz" were followed as close as practical during this evaluation. Complete details and specific procedures used are discussed in the respective test result sections. 4.2 CONDUCTED EMISSIONS – Section 15.107(a) 4.2.1 Test Setup – Conducted Emissions The XM Satellite Radio, Inc Xpress EZ receiver was evaluated for an I.T.E. (Model No.: SMPS5V2A-XM) wall adapter power supply. The unit and the 120VAC/ DC 5V switching power supply were installed in the FAU EMI Research facilities conducted emissions shielded enclosure on a wooden test table 80 centimeters above the ground plane floor and 40 centimeters from the rear wall. The I.T.E Power Supply was then plugged into an EMCO Model No.3825/2R Serial No. 1095, 50 Ω, 50 μH Line Impedance Stabilization Network (LISN). Photographs 1 and 2 in the document ‘Xpress EZ _Report_of_Measurements_test_set_up_photos.doc’ depict the conducted emissions test setup. Conducted power line emissions were measured on both the phase and neutral lines with reference to earth ground, over the specified 150 kHz to 30 MHz range on a Hewlett Packard HP 8566B Spectrum Analyzer operated in the peak detection mode, in conjunction with HP 85685A Preselector, with a bandwidth of 9 kHz obtained through the HP 85650A Quasi Peak Adapter. Power Supply The EUT was tested for the peak-detected emissions on phase and neutral lines while the Xpress EZ unit was receiving a live XM broadcast. INTRODUCTION The shipping version of the XM Satellite Radio, Inc. Xpress EZ evaluated for compliance to the FCC Class B requirements in the Technical Report 07-012. This addendum documents test results obtained for alternate configurations or accessories for the device (italic font). Note that throughout the measurements it was verified that the unit could not operate outside of the frequency band 88 MHz to 108 MHz. Also, the audio level of the device was set to maximum. The results apply only to the specific items of equipment, configurations and procedures supplied to the Florida Atlantic University EMI Research Lab by XM Satellite Radio, Inc., as reported in this document. 2. OBJECTIVE This evaluation was performed to verify the conformance of alternate configurations of the XM Satellite Radio, Inc Xpress EZ receiver to U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Title 47 - Telecommunication, Part 15 - Radio Frequency Devices, • Subpart B - Unintentional Radiators, Section 15.107(a) Conducted limits, and Section 15.109(a) Radiated Class B Emission limits. • Subpart C – Paragraph 15.239 (a) (b) (c) – Operation in the band 88 MHz to 108 MHz Mode of Operation • During FCC Part 15 Subpart B, Paragraph 15.107(a) conducted emissions…
