FlexWave ™ Prism Flexible Outdoor Wireless Coverage and Capacity 10/08 • 106969AE FlexWave ™ Prism FlexWave ™ Prism Flexible Outdoor Wireless Coverage and Capacity 2 www.adc.com • +1-952-938-8080 • 1-800-366-3891 Overview With the increasing popularity and reliance on wireless voice and data services, subscribers expect to have coverage at anytime, anywhere. In addition to increased wireless device usage, wireless service providers implementing 3G technologies have recognized a reduction in coverage patterns within existing coverage footprints, opening coverage “holes” within the network. To resolve this issue, it requires service providers to extend coverage and/or increase capacity within the non-coverage areas. This has been traditionally accomplished by adding new macro cell towers; however, with city centers becoming more congested and local government zoning regulations becoming more stringent, obtaining permits for new macro cell sites is becoming increasingly difficult. The Prism offers service providers a flexible, small form factor solution to extend coverage and capacity where needed, as well as support for the increasing number of protocols and frequencies available today and in the future. The Prism improves wireless network coverage and capacity by extending services from existing cell sites, to hard-to-reach areas by distributing coverage from a centralized radio suite. Utilizing a centralized distributed architecture, service providers are able to recognize significant CAPEX/OPEX savings through a shared Base Station Hotel (multiple BTS co-located together), as well as a shared Remote Radio Transceiver approach. The Prism’s flexibility and scalability offers service providers an optimal solution for multiple applications such as; dense urban centers, dense suburban areas, campuses, enterprise buildings, subways and tunnels. The Prism digitizes the entire designated RF band and digitally transports it over dark fiber or millimeter wave links and reconstructs the signal at full bandwidth, regardless of modulation technology, at the remote location. ADC’s digital RF transport allows RF signals to be replicated at full dynamic range, independent of the link length, for improved data throughput. As service providers migrate to 3G and 4G networks, high- data rate broadband services, networks utilizing a Prism backbone will be ready. The Prism offers a flexible architecture to distribute wireless coverage and capacity. Its versatility and small form factor allow service providers to quickly deploy networks in areas where zoning restrictions often hinder installation of traditional macro cell towers and base stations. Centralization of base station capacity can also be realized using the FlexWave Prism. This allows service providers to further benefit by reducing capital expenditures and annual operating costs. To insure that all connectors and ports remain dust-free during installation, leave all dust caps and dust protectors in place until directed to remove them. The basic dimensions and weights of the Remote are listed in Table 4-2. The Prism Remote should be mounted on a utility pole, mast, or on a flat surface. A mounting kit is available for each unit. Installation consists of securing the bracket to the mounting surface (wood, concrete, or steel) and then hanging the unit from the bracket. The Remote should only be mounted in a restricted access location. Detailed instructions for mounting the FlexWave Prism Remote are in the Remote Unit Mounting Kit Installation Instructions (ADCP-77-077). For information on setting Host attributes, see “Enter a Host Name, Clock Source, and Linking Mode” on page 147 and “Changing to Built-In Network Mode” on page 186. To open the Host Summary view in the EMS View Frame, in the Function Explorer Tree select System View, and then click on the Host name node. The read-only status indicators are: • SERF—Current summary alarm state of Host SeRF card. Red indicates that a major alarm exists for some component module of the SeRF. Yellow indicates a minor alarm. • DART—Current summary alarm state is indicated by status indicator on same row of page. Red indicates that a major alarm exists for the DART. Yellow indicates a minor alarm. • Host Major Contact Alarm Output—Dry alarm NO/NC contact (labeled ALARM OUTPUTS HOST) on the Host. Current state of major alarm contacts is indicated by Alarm Summary status indicator on same row of page. • Host Minor Contact Alarm Output—Dry alarm NO/NC contact (labeled ALARM OUTPUTS HOST) on the Host. Current state of minor alarm contacts is indicated by Alarm Summary status indicator on same row of page. • Remote Major Contact Alarm Output—Red indicates Host NO/NC major alarm contacts are in an alarm position. These connections are typically wired to a local alarm alert system. This status indicator is red when a major alarm is present on any Remote connected to the Host. • Remote Minor Contact Alarm Output—Red indicates that Host NO/NC minor alarm contacts are in an alarm position. These connections are typically wired to a local alarm alert system. This status indicator is red when a minor alarm is present on any Remote connected to Host. Only a user logged in under the admin or a Network Manager account can change Prism system settings t hrough the EMS. Resetting the Host Unit results in a Loss of Service condition for the Host and connected Remotes unt il the Host comes back up. Depending on the system configuration, it can take 5 to 20 minutes for man agement communication to be restored. Once you click OK, the confirmation dialog closes and the Host reboots. It will take some time for the Host to retrieve data from connected Remotes and to reconfigure data on the Remotes. During this time, an alert message displays in the Host Summary view and on any other page where data can be set. Any attempt to SET will fail. You cannot make configuration changes while this message is displayed. Wait until the message clears before continuing with configuration settings. These ports consist of eight ports used for connection to Remotes and four ports used for system management and maintenance functions. 11 In the Function Explorer Tree, select System View,Host-x,SERF,ENET (where -x is the Host name) to open the ENET Configurations view in the EMS View Frame.
