American Telecommunications Certification Body Inc. 6731 Whittier Ave, McLean, VA 22101 April 17, 2002 RE: FCC ID: HDCTRC3202 I have a few comments on this Application. 1 The “FCC Output Power Restrictions” paragraph of the manual refers to Section 2 called “Setting the Transmitter Power” . However, in the manual provided Section 2 is called “Network Tune-up Procedure. This section contains information on the model 3102 - 2.4GHz frequency allocation not the 3202 - 5.8 GHz frequency allocation (see page 44 of manual). Please correct the manual to reflect the proper model device. 2 The schematic “confidential_2280025-3” is for the 3102. Please provide the correct schematic or please provide the explanation as to how this schematic is appropriate for the 3202 model. 3 The report states that process gain data is provided in the appendix of the report. The process gain appendix is a test procedure and does not contain actual measured data. Please provide the Process Gain data showing the actual process gain calculation for this device. Dennis Ward mailto:[email protected] The items indicated above must be submitted before processing can continue on the above referenced application. Failure to provide the requested information may result in application termination. Correspondence should be considered part of the permanent submission and may be viewed from the Internet after a Grant of Equipment Authorization is issued. Please do not respond to this correspondence using the email reply button. In order for your response to be processed expeditiously, you must submit your documents through the AmericanTCB.com website. Also, please note that partial responses increase processing time and should not be submitted. Any questions about the content of this correspondence should be directed to the sender.

This schematic is appropriate for the 3202.That schematic (2280025-3) is for the Base Band Processor (BBP) and the Power Line Interface (PLI). That board works with either the 3102 or the 3202 RFC unit. The 3102 RFC was the radio it was first designed to work with, and that is why that is on the schematic. The BBP and PLI are not changed to work with the 3202. 3. Please find attached the processing gain. -----Original Message----- From: Dennis Ward [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, April 17, 2002 5:03 PM To: David Light; Denise Godfrey Subject: FCC ID HDCTRC3202 Hi David The attached pdf file contains a list of information that is needed for the above FCC ID. Tracer 2210/3202 Description This product provides microwave full-duplex transmission of an Nx64 (N = 1...24) data stream. The TRACER 2210 accepts a V.35 clock and data input and formats the data signal into a T1 format. The T1 signal is transformer-coupled onto twisted pair wire (22 – 24 AWG) along with a center-tapped 24 to 60 VDC span power signal, and transported up to a mast-mounted radio unit enclosed in a ¼-size environmental housing. The span power is used to power the radio electronics, while the T1-formated data signal is direct- sequence spread and used to modulate a 5.8 GHz RF carrier. The RF signal is presented at the N-type connector of the mast-mount TRACER 3202, and is connected with a 50 ohm coaxial cable to an antenna for microwave transmission in the 5.8 GHz ISM band to an identical 2210/3202 pair at the “far end” of the radio link, where the inverse signal operations are performed, resulting in recovered Nx64 clock and data signals output at the far end 2210 V.35 port.

Measurement and Evaluation of Tracer 2210/3202 5.8 GHz System Processing Gain Prepared by: Eric Rives Adtran, Inc. 901 Explorer Blvd. P.O. Box 140000 Huntsville, AL 35814-4000 October 5, 2001 1. Measurement and Evaluation of Tracer 2210/3202 Processing Gain To comply with FCC Regulations part 15.247(e), a direct-sequence spread spectrum system must have a processing gain of at least 10 dB. This document details the measurement and calculation of the processing gain of the Tracer 2210/3202 spread spectrum system, marketed by Adtran, Inc. The processing gain of Tracer 2210/3202 was measured using the CW jamming margin method. Guidelines for this method were obtained from the FCC publication “Guidance on Measurements for Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum Systems” found as Appendix C of FCC 97-114. Results of this test, found in section 4 of this document, verify that the Tracer 2210/3202 system has between 10.0 dB and 12.0 dB of processing gain, satisfying part 15.247(e) requirements. 2. Test Configuration Table 1 lists the test hardware model numbers and serial numbers used to measure jamming margin and processing gain. Table 1 – Hardware Parts List Used for Processing Gain Measurement ItemVendorModel / Part Number Signal GeneratorRohde & SchwarzSMT06 5 kHz...6 GHz BERTTTCFireberd 6000A RF CombinerMini-CircuitsZFSC-2-10G 10-dB RF Attenuatornarda4772-10, DC-6 GHz, 2 Watts Step Attenuatornarda23877, ser. no. 115, DC-12.4 GHz RF Power MeterHewlett PackardE4418A single channel The setup of this test was derived from FCC guidance. Jamming signals were generated with a Rohde and Schwartz signal generator. Bit error rate (BER) was measured with a TTC Fireberd 6000A with the V.35 option card. The BER tester (BERT) was configured as follows: • 511 Pattern • Gen Clk = INTF • Timing Mode = SYNC • AVG BER and Bit Errors displayed Figure 1 – Processing Gain Setup Tracer 2210 Tracer 3202 10 dB pad (x 2) Mini-Circuits 5.8 GHz combiner Rohde & Schwarz Signal Gen. Step Attenuator Tracer 2210 (UUT) Tracer 3202 (UUT) TTC Fireberd 6000A BER Tester RF Power Meter To measure the one-way (unidirectional) BER of the unit under test (UUT), the UUT transmitter was disabled so that the channel contained only the jammer signal and the source Tracer 3202 RF spread data spectrum. The source Tracer 2210 was used as the clock master and setup to transmit a 511 pseudo-random sequence. This same pattern was received buy the UUT and the pattern bit error rate was measured by the BERT. 3. Test Calibration The processing gain test setup was calibrated for accurate measurement as follows. The step attenuator was set to a level of 50 dB so that the input signal into the Tracer 3202 UUT was at a nominal level. Accounting for the RF losses through the 20 dB RF pads, combiner, diplexer and coaxial cable resulted in a measured signal level of –59.9 dB at the input to the UUT. The jammer signal power was also calibrated for the losses through the combiner, diplexer and coaxial cable. 4. Calculation of Processing Gain For each 50 kHz increment of the jammer frequency, the jammer power was adjusted to a level that produced a BER of 1E–6. The Tracer 3202 spread spectrum receiver incorporates a coherent, differential quadrature phase shift keying (D-QPSK) data modulation scheme, which results in a required signal-to-noise ratio, (S/N)o, of 14.2 dB to produce a BER of 1E–6. Discarding the worst 20% of jammer-to-signal (J/S) data points per 15.247 section (e)(2), the lowest remaining J/S ratio was –4.2 dB. The J/S data points are listed in Appendix A. Using the equation Gp = (S/N)o + Mj + Lsys, the resulting Gp value is between 14.2 – 4.2 = 10.0 dB and 14.2 – 4.2 + 2 = 12.0 dB, meeting or exceeding the FCC processing gain requirement. Figure 2 shows a plot of the processing gain of the Tracer 2210/3202 system across the system passband.
