CMU044-A11 of 2 SIERRA WIRELESS AIRCARD 555 WIRELESS CARD INSTALLATION FCC RF EXPOSURE INFORMATION In August 1996 the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the United States with its action in Report and Order FCC 96-326 adopted an updated safety standard for human exposure to radio frequency (RF) electromagnetic energy emitted by FCC regulated transmitters. Those guidelines are consistent with the safety standard previously set by both U.S. and international standards bodies. The design of this device complies with the FCC guidelines and these international standards. ** WARNING ** This device is approved for use only with the Sierra Wireless AirCard 555 transmitter. This device has been tested and complies with the FCC RF exposure guidelines. Modifications not approved by the manufacturer may result in violation of FCC regulations and may void the Users authority to operate the equipment. PC Card slots will not operate until a Sierra Wireless AirCard 555 transmitter is inserted No other model of transmitter will activate the PC Card slots Use only the supplied or an approved antenna. See below for detail. Unauthorised antennas, modifications, or attachments could impair call quality, damage the phone, and will result in violation of FCC regulations and will void the FCC ID. When equipped with the Sierra Wireless AirCard 555, this product can only be used in Canada and USA. This device has not been tested to comply with any other international standards bodies The FCC ID shown on the CE8640 unit applies only when the Sierra Wireless AirCard 555 is installed. For more information about RF exposure, please visit the FCC web site at www.fcc.gov For more information about the product certification, please contact [email protected] CMU044-A12 of 2 Installation of the Card A software driver needs to be installed to activate the card. ** The driver needs to be installed before the card is inserted Contact your software integrator or Dap Technologies Technical Support for more information. For more information refer to the CE8640 Technical Guide at https://www.daptech.com You also need an account with a wireless provider. To install the card: • Open the Expansion Bay as specified in previous section “Use of PC Card”. • Slide the AirCard 555 into either of the 2 slots • Insert the antenna cable into the PC Card connector • Install the antenna by screwing it on the antenna connector. So we will pursue with option #2, which is to get our own FCC ID. Now, the concern was about the way that we want to market the product. As you know, we want to sell a "wireless ready" product and have customers to buy their PCMCIA cards (SW Aircard 750 for GPRS and SW Aircard 555 for CDMA) from their service providers and install it in the unit (PCMCIA slot). Now, the principal issue was that customers could buy other cards (not the ones that we certified) and use them with our unit. Here is how we want to address this issue in order to have complete control on the situation: When a unit is sold with PCMCIA wireless option, GPRS for example, a SW Aircard 750 needs to be detected in one of the two PCMCIA slots in order to enable BOTH PCMCIA slots. This means that if a SW Aircard 750 is not detected, than BOTH PCMCIA slots will be disabled (locked by software). The same for CDMA option with SW Aircard 555. This way, the wireless option cannot be used. This will assure us that only the cards that we certified can be used to have our product to use wireless option. I would like you to confirm that this way, everything would be ok from FCC point of view. As such use of the "mobile" condition under the Sierra Wireless grant is not appropriate. The apparent options are: 1) Use of the original Sierra wireless grant by adding your computer/antenna as a specific host. Requires permissive II change by Sierra. 2) Obtain your own FCC ID for use in the specific host computer. This is the avenue that you seemed to be pursuing, however, the original Sierra FCC ID label would have to be removed from the card. I trust this guidance is helpful. Martin Perrine

The new Block Edge requirements do not appear to meet the expectations of the Commission. Please view the attached guidance issued directly by the OET Laboratory in Columbia, MD. 2.) Excuse my confusion, but will this equipment be equipped with both the Sierra 555 and 750 radio modems? Or is one an option? I have in my possession information supplied by Sierra on both wireless products. 3.)
