Item1 Describe the o p eration of the device. Answer: T his device is satellite radio receiver; it receives the satellite si g nal from the satellite receivin g antenna, decode the audio si g nal in base band and DAC, then send the analo g audio to the FM modulator contained in this device. T he out p ut of FM modulator is cou p led to either the internal FM transmittin g antenna or the external transmittin g antenna de p endin g on the users p reference Item2 Provide information on the device and its antenna. Answer: T his device is the satellite radio receiver thar consist of the followin g individual pieces: (1) Internal FM transmittin g antenna; (2) External FM transmittin g antenna; (3) External satellite receivin g antenna ; ( 4 ) Ci g arette li g hter ada p ter ; ( 5 ) Car dock ; ( 6 ) Stereo audio cable ; Item3 How is it installed? Answer: T he car dock is installed to hold the radio typically below the top of the dash in order to avoid blockin g the view of the road by the driver. The external FM transmitting antenna will normally be activatied at this time and the customer will locate and tune the satelli te radio to output its signal on an unused FM channel in his locale. After determine the a pp ro p riate channel , the user will tune his car radio to the same channel. Item4 Describe the test p rocedure used. Answer: T he system is tested accordin g to the procedures in ANSI C63.4. Cables are manipulated on the tabletop to maximize the FM band signal level. And also, the cables are bundled as per the instru ction in ANSI C63.4 and are then moved around to maximize the FM band si g nal. Both internal FM transmittin g antenna and external FM transmittin g antenna confi g urations are tested. Item5 If tested in a car, describe how was it confi g ured and tested. Answer: Onl y test data on a test table are submitted for certification. Item6 At the p resent time, FM transmitters ( sub j ect to 15.239 ) tested in vehicles must also be tested on a test table. Provide both sets of data. All data must be com p liant Answer: T est Data on a test table will be filin g . Item7 Was the tunin g ran g e p ro p erl y verified? The test lab should indicate in the re p ort that the tunin g controls were manuall y ad j usted to verif y maximum tunin g ran g e. Answer: T he tunnin g control were manually ad j usted to verify the maximum tunnin g ran g e. All controls, manual and software were ad j usted to determine the maximum tunnin g ran g e ca p abilit y of the unit. This ran g e is s p ecified in the test re p ort and is 88.1MHz to 107.9MHz. Item8 Was the bandwidth p ro p erl y tested with maximum audio in p ut? Answer: T he full scale audio ( 0dB ) was used and the modulator audio in p ut level control was set to maximum to p reform this test. Item9 Use a t yp ical audio file from a t yp ical device. e. g . do not use a 1 kHz si g nal from a si g nal g enerator. Answer: This device doesn't have the external audio input, we can only use the signal generator to send the satellite radio signalto this device to decode the audio file for the FM transmitter.
