Important Safety and Product Information2 Informations importantes sur le produit et la sécurité5 Información importante sobre el producto y tu seguridad8 IMPORTANT SAFETY AND PRODUCT INFORMATION WARNING Failure to heed the following warnings could result in an accident or collision resulting in death or serious injury. Distraction Warning This device is intended to enhance the situational awareness when used properly. If used improperly, you could become distracted by the display, which could lead to an accident causing serious personal injury or death. Only access the information displayed on the device with a glance. Always maintain awareness of your surroundings and do not stare at the display or become distracted by the display. Focusing on the display could cause you to miss obstacles or hazards. Use the device at your own risk. Vehicle Installation Warnings • When installing the device in a vehicle, do not place the device where it obstructs the driver’s view of the road À or interferes with vehicle operating controls, such as the steering wheel, foot pedals, or transmission levers. Do not place unsecured on the vehicle dashboard Á . Do not place the device in front of or above any airbag  . • The windshield mount may not stay attached to the windshield in all circumstances. Do not place the mount where it will become a distraction if it should become detached. Keep your windshield clean to help ensure that the mount stays on the windshield. Street Navigation Warnings If your Garmin ® device accepts street maps and suggests routes that follow roads, follow these guidelines to ensure safe on-road navigation. • Always use your best judgment, and operate the vehicle in a safe manner. Do not become distracted by the device while driving, and always be fully aware of all driving conditions. Minimize the amount of time spent viewing the device screen while driving. • Do not input destinations, change settings, or access any functions requiring prolonged use of the device controls while driving. Pull over in a safe and legal manner before attempting such operations. • When navigating, carefully compare information displayed on the device to all available navigation sources, including road signs, road closures, road conditions, traffic congestion, weather conditions, and other factors that may affect safety while driving. For safety, always resolve any discrepancies before continuing navigation, and defer to posted signs and conditions. • The device is designed to provide route suggestions. It is not a replacement for driver attentiveness and good judgement. Do not follow route suggestions if they suggest an illegal maneuver or would place the vehicle in an unsafe situation. Incident Detection Warning The device allows you to send your location to an emergency contact. This is a supplemental feature and should not be relied upon as a primary method to obtain emergency assistance. The Smartphone Link app does not contact emergency services on your behalf. Battery Warnings A lithium-ion battery can be used in this device. If these guidelines are not followed, batteries may experience a shortened life span or may present a risk of damage to the device, fire, chemical burn, electrolyte leak, and/or injury. • Do not disassemble, modify, remanufacture, puncture or damage the device or batteries. • Do not remove or attempt to remove the non-user-replaceable battery. • Do not expose the device or batteries to fire, explosion, or other hazard. Magnet Warning Both the device and its mount may contain magnets. Under certain circumstances, magnets may cause interference with some internal medical devices, including pacemakers and insulin pumps. Devices and mounts that contain magnets should be kept away from such medical devices. NOTICE Failure to heed the following notice could result in personal or property damage, or negatively impact the device functionality. Windshield Mounting Legal Restrictions Before using the device on your windshield, check the state and local laws and ordinances where you drive. Some state laws prohibit or restrict the placement of objects on the windshield of a motor vehicle. IT IS THE USER'S RESPONSIBILITY TO MOUNT THE DEVICE IN COMPLIANCE WITH ALL APPLICABLE LAWS AND ORDINANCES. Where required, other Garmin dashboard or friction mount options should be used. Always mount your Garmin device in a location that does not obstruct the driver's view of the road. Garmin does not assume any responsibility for any fines, penalties, or damages that may be incurred as a result of any state or local law or ordinance relating to the use of your Garmin device. 2 Battery Notices • Do not immerse or expose the device or batteries to water or other liquids. • Do not leave the device exposed to a heat source or in a high- temperature location, such as in the sun in an unattended vehicle. To prevent the possibility of damage, remove the device from the vehicle or store it out of direct sunlight, such as in the glove box. • Do not operate the device outside of the following temperature range: from -20° to 55°C (from -4° to 131°F). • When storing the device for an extended time period, store within the following temperature range: from 0° to 25°C (from 32° to 77°F). • Do not use a power and/or data cable that is not approved or supplied by Garmin. • Contact your local waste disposal department to dispose of the device/batteries in accordance with applicable local laws and regulations. Speed Limit Notice The speed limit feature is for information only and does not replace the driver’s responsibility to abide by all posted speed limit signs and to use safe driving judgment at all times. ZŪMO ® XT Quick Start Manual Getting Started WARNING See the Important Safety and Product Information guide in the product box for product warnings and other important information. 1 Connect to a Wi‑Fi ® network (page 2)(optional). 2 Pair your Bluetooth ® phone and headset (page 4) (optional). 3 Update the maps and software on your device (page 2). 4 Acquire GPS signals (page 3). 5 Mount the device and connect it to power. See the installation instructions provided with your device. 6 Adjust the screen brightness (page 3). 7 Navigate to your destination (page 4). Device Overview Power button microSD ® memory card slot USB power and data port Map and Software Updates For the best navigation experience, you should keep the maps and software on your device up to date. Map updates provide the newest available changes to roads and locations in the maps used by your device. Keeping maps up to date helps your device find recently added locations and calculate more accurate routes. Map updates are large and may take several hours to complete. Software updates provide changes and improvements to the device features and operation. Software updates are small and take a few minutes to complete. You can update your device using two methods. • You can connect the device to a Wi‑Fi network to update directly on the device (recommended). This option allows you to update your device conveniently without connecting it to a computer. • You can connect the device to a computer and update it using the Garmin Express ™ application (garmin.com/express). Connecting to a Wi ‑Fi Network 1 Select Settings > Wireless Networks. 2 If necessary, select Wi-Fi to enable Wi‑Fi technology. 3 Select Search for Networks. The device displays a list of nearby Wi‑Fi networks. 4 Select a network. 5 If necessary, enter the password for the network, and select Done. Updating Maps and Software Using a Wi ‑Fi Network NOTICE Map and software updates may require the device to download large files. Regular data limits or charges from your Internet service provider apply. Contact your Internet service provider for more information about data limits or charges. 2Quick Start Manual You can update the maps and software by connecting your device to a Wi‑Fi network that provides access to the Internet. This allows you to keep your device up to date without connecting it to a computer. 1 Using the included USB cable, connect the device to external power. NOTE: A USB wall charger that provides at least 1 A power output is recommended. 2 Connect the device to a Wi‑Fi network (page 2). While connected to a Wi‑Fi network, the device checks for available updates. When an update is available, appears on the Settings icon in the main menu. 3 Select Settings > Updates. The device checks for available updates. When an update is available, Update Available appears below Map or Software. 4 Select Install All. 5 Follow the on-screen instructions on your device to complete the update process. 6 Keep the device connected to external power and within range of the Wi‑Fi network until the update process is complete. TIP: If a map update is interrupted or canceled before it completes, your device may be missing map data. To repair missing map data, you must update the maps again using either Wi‑Fi or Garmin Express. Acquiring GPS Signals 1 Turn on the device. 2 Wait while the device locates satellites. 3 If necessary, go to an open area, away from tall buildings and trees. in the status bar indicates the satellite signal strength. When at least half the bars are filled, the device is ready for navigation. Adjusting the Screen Brightness 1 Select Settings > Display > Brightness. 2 Use the slider bar to adjust the brightness. Usage Modes Routing and navigation are calculated differently based on your settings for each usage mode. The current usage mode is indicated by an icon in the status bar. Automobile mode Motorcycle mode Off-road mode Choosing a Usage Mode Select the usage mode icon on the status bar. Using the Large Button Keyboard • Select or to view more characters. • Select to switch to a full keyboard layout . Live Services, Traffic, and Smartphone Features The Garmin Drive ™ app allows your device to receive smart notifications and live information, such as live traffic data and weather information. Live traffic data: Sends live traffic data to your device, such as traffic incidents and delays, construction zones, and road closings. Weather information: Sends real-time weather forecasts, road conditions, and weather radar to your device. Quick Start Manual3 Smart Notifications: Displays phone notifications and messages on your device. This feature is not available for all languages. Hands-Free calling: Allows you to place and receive phone calls through the device using your connected Bluetooth headset. Send locations to device: Allows you to send locations from your smartphone to your navigation device. Foursquare ® check in: Allows you to check in to Foursquare locations using your navigation device. Pairing Your Phone and Headset The first time you turn on your device, you are prompted to pair your phone and headset. If necessary, you can complete setup at a later time by selecting Settings > Complete Setup. You must pair your zūmo device with your phone and Bluetooth headset to use several Bluetooth features. After the devices are paired, they connect automatically when they are turned on and within range. Some features also require the Garmin Drive app. You can connect to the Garmin Drive app during the pairing process or later. 1 Place the zūmo device and your headset or phone within 3 m (10 ft.) of each other. 2 On your headset or phone, enable Bluetooth wireless technology, and set it to be discoverable. See your headset or phone's owner's manual for more information. 3 Turn on the zūmo device and follow the on-screen instructions.
