Federal Communications Commission 7435 Oakland Mills Road Columbia, MD 21046 CKC Laboratories was not certain on the requirements to handle a device that falls under two different FCC Rule Parts. The Glenayre device, Wireless Messaging Module, Model “@ctiveLink” has a frequency range of 896-902 MHz that falls under Part 24 and Part 90. CKC Labs was told by Frank Coperich in an email (email can be provided if necessary) that it could be handled in one application and that one FCC ID number would be applied. He stated that the grant would show each Rule Part and corresponding frequency range. This application is for Part 24 and a separate Permissive Change application will be uploaded with the Part 90 data included. About CKC Test Report This is to clarify where to find certain required data for this application. Our customer, Glenayre Electronics, Inc. performed some of the required testing and, therefore, will not be found in the CKC Laboratories, Inc Test Report. In the CKC Test Report there is a comment that says, “see customer supplied data”. The customer-supplied data will be uploaded as separate data files under the Test Report exhibit as follows: ♦ 2.1033(C)(14)/2.1047(B) - Modulation Characteristics - There will be two attachments: ♦ 1) Modulation plot.jpeg showing a plot ♦ 2) Modulation characteristics test conditions equipment and setup.doc providing test conditions, test equipment used, and a diagram of the test setup used that provided the plot file. ♦ 2.1033(C)(14)/2.1049(I) - Occupied Bandwidth - There will be two attachments: ♦ 1) Bandwidth plot.jpeg showing the plot. ♦ 2) Occupied bandwidth test conditions equipment and setup.doc providing test conditions, test equipment used, and a diagram of the test setup used that provided the plot file. ♦ 2.1033(C)(14)/2.1055/101.107 - Frequency Stability - There will be two attachments: ♦ 1) Frequency variation vs temp.PDF showing the plot & data. ♦ 2) Frequency variation and temp test conditions equipment and setup.doc providing test conditions, test equipment used, and a diagram of the test setup used that provided the plot file. June 21, 2000 Federal Communications Commission 7435 Oakland Mills Road Columbia, MD 21046 Re: FCC ID: K3N7000, EA97936 The 731 application and its associated files were uploaded on June 16,2000 for Glenayre Electronics’ Wireless Messaging Module, @ctiveLink, operating under Part 24. We are also seeking approval under Part 90 for the same device. We were uncertain how to apply for two different Rule Parts on the same application. Previously we had submitted a similar device, but we were able to link them by using the Permissive Change process. However, we do not want to wait until Part 24 is granted before submitting the Part 90 application. We were instructed byone of your adminastrative staff that to upload the Part 90 information to the Part 24 application. In addition to adding Part 90 to the application, CKC Laboratories did some additional testing on the power. The unit provided for testing was not modified so that a direct connect could be made. As a result, it was very difficult to capture the same power readings while testing both Part 24 and Part 90. A unit was modified and retested recently using the direct connect method. The test report for Part 24 was amended to reflect the new test data. Please disregard test report FC00-052. Instead, use test report FC00-052A. Since the Part 24 application has already been uploaded, I cannot change or add any information to it. Please make the following changes on the 731 Form: Item #10 – under “Equipment will be operated under FCC Rule Part(s)” add Part 90. Item #12 – under “Equipment Specifications” correct the “Rated RF power output in watts” for the frequency ranges listed under 901-902 MHz from 2.80 to 1.81 watts. Add 896-902 MHz with a RF power output of 1.808 watts, 0.42 ppm for frequency tolerance and 10K0F1D for the emissions designator. Do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected] for any assistance you may require. Sincerely, Joyce Walker CKC Laboratories, Inc. Technical Report Writer

This position was determined to have the worst case emissions. The HP spectrum analyzer was configured for a resolution bandwidth of 300Hz and a span of 65kHz. All spectrum analyzer measurements were made using the Peak detector function. The spectrum analyzer reference level was set to the unmodulated (carrier only) peak power level. This was done by starting a test routine on the module that generates carrier only. This reference trace was stored in the memory of the spectrum analyzer. Next, internal test code was started in the module that continuously modulates the transmitter with pseudo-random data. An overlay of the carrier only spectrum, the occupied BW, and the FCC mask was plotted from the spectrum analyzer. • List of Test Equipment 1. Wireless Products 2101 Tasman Drive Santa Cl ara, CA 95054 USA tel 408-653-1555 fax 408-567-1069 Description of the Duty Cycle for the @ctivelink Wireless Messaging Module The worst case duty cycle for the @ctivelink module transmitter occurs on a collapse of 1 when it is sending messages from the module to the infrastructure. For this calculation, assume infinite messages are queued in the module, each message is the maximum length allowed (2000 characters), and the back channel is running at its slowest speed (800 bps). The ReFLEX protocol is timed on frames, each of which is 1.875 seconds long. The sequence for transmitting a message from the module is shown in the following table. Also shown are transmitter on times and elapsed ti me.
