Foreword The HomeFree at Care Centers system was designed to monitor special needs and Dementia individuals in the care center environment. The Pendant (Panic button) is one of the many unique elements of this system. The Pendant is a small, lightweight push button unit worn by the monitored individual that alerts caregivers whenever the monitored individual activates a panic alert. The Pendant is not for use outside the monitored area. 1.1. Activating the Pendant: The Pendant is turned off by the manufacturer before shipment and must be activated before use. To activate, hold the Pendant firmly in your hand and press the panic button continuously for 2 seconds. The LED indicator flashes indicating that the Pendant is working. The monitoring station then indicates the current battery status. This status message is sent until the Pendant is deactivated. 1.2. Activating a Panic Alert: Press the panic button. The LED indicator flashes indicating that the Pendant is in panic alert mode. Once in panic alert mode, the Pendant sends a panic alert message to the monitoring station. This message is sent until the panic alert is deactivated. 1.3. Deactivating a Panic Alert: Press the panic button 6 times in quick succession (within 5 seconds). The LED indicator lights up for 3 seconds indicating that the panic alert has been deactivated. Even though the panic alert has been deactivated, the Pendant is still working. Therefore, the Pendant still sends a status message to the monitoring station. This status message is sent until the Pendant is deactivated. 1.4. Deactivating the Pendant: Holding the Pendant firmly in your hand, press the panic button continuously for 10 seconds. The LED indicator lights up for 3 seconds. During this 3-second period, press the panic button 2 times in succession. The Pendant is now in deactivated mode (turned off). HomeFree Systems Ltd Pendant (Panic Button) User Manual 4 1.5. Cleaning Instructions A soft brush and any cleaning solution are all that is needed to clean the Pendant. Alcohol based solutions; Soapy water or Lysol can be used to clean the Pendant. Holding the strap or leash, spray the Pendant (Panic Button) with cleaning solution of choice (see above). Using a piece of cloth or a paper towel, dry the outer side of the Pendant. Lay the Pendant on the towel with its inner side facing up. Using a soft brush or another piece of cloth/towel gently scrub the inner side of the Pendant. Dry the Pendant (Panic Button) using a piece of cloth/paper towel or simply let it dry. HomeFree Systems Ltd Pendant (Panic Button) User Manual 5 2. This device has been tested and found to comply with the limits of the Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This device generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if installed and used in accordance with the instruction, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this device does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures • Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna • Increase the separation between the equipment and the receiver. FCC ID: LSQ-PB-500 After a review of the submitted information, I have a few comments on the above referenced Application. 1) Please provide a test plot showing the Activate and Deactivate functions over a 6 second or greater period of time and over a 23 second period of time for the Panic Alert Mode. Please use markers to show the timing elements on the plots. The FCC requires actual plots showing that the 5 second rule is met (for Activate and Deactivate) and that the device functions as explained. 2) Please comment on if the original theory of operation is still valid. See attached file. 3) If the original theory of operation is still correct, then we would suggest that in the operational description provided that the additional transmissions every 18-22 s in the alert mode be labeled as "Additional Panic Alert Messages" since the purpose of these is to show that the panic alert is continuing. The purpose at this point is not to send a battery status as labeled, but to show that the alarm condition is still occurring. 4) The calculated result listed in section 4.2 for the Peak Detector + Avg Factor has been changed from 67.28 to 73.38 dBuV/m. The following test plots show the Activate and Deactivate functions of the Panic Button. The plots captured the transmit command signal which is transfer from the Panic Button’s CPU to the Panic Button’s transmitter. We have added timing markers and signals function explanation on top of the scope’s plot. Activate function Plot no. 1 shows the three panic alert transmission commands, which are 150 ms apart, and additional 6.3 seconds, to show that the 5 seconds rule is met. Plot no. 1: The initial panic alert messages Plot no. 2 shows the initial three panic alert transmission commands, and an additional Panic Alert message which is triggered 21 seconds after the first transmissions. Plot no. 2: The initial panic alert message and an additional alert message Plot no. 3 shows the three deactivate transmission commands, which are 150 ms apart, and additional 6.3 seconds, to show that the 5 seconds rule is met. December 5, 2002 American TCB 6731 Whittier Ave Suite C110 McLean, VA 22101 USA Subject: Explanation of implemented changes to Pendant (Panic Button), model PB-500 FCC ID: LSQ-PB-500 Dear Gentlemen, We confirm that the following principal change in Panic Button operation was implemented: The current battery status is now transmitted once per hour (5 ms transmission). As a result Panic Button has four modes of operation: ACTIVATING THE PENDANT – Three 5ms transmissions with interval 150 ms. ACTIVE – transmits status (5 ms per hour). PANIC ALLERT – transmits one burst of three 5ms transmissions with 150ms interval (total burst duration 315 ms) and after that one 5ms transmission with intervals, varying randomly within 18-22 s, during the pendency of the alert. As per Section 15.231(a)(4) a ”safety of life” intentional radiator may operate during the pendency of the alarm condition. The nurse, who responds to the panic alarm, stops the transmissions by pressing the button six successive times. DEACTIVATION OF PANIC ALLERT - Three 5ms transmissions with interval 150 ms. This change has in no way affected the results included into the test report submitted to ATCB on October 31, 2002. Please find the revised User Manual, Operational description and test report (EUT description was changed). We hope that our device now may be considered complying with requirements of 15.231a.
