Cover Letter(s)

September 7, 2000 Federal Communications Commission Equipment Authorization Division 7435 Oakland Mills Road Columbia, MD 21046 Dear Sirs , This letter is being submitted regarding Digitrax, Inc. submittal for FCC ID: LV3RF1 . The EUT submitted in this report is a modular transceiver. This transceiver has been previously approved in Model DT100R throttle controller under FCC ID: LV3DT100R. For purposes of this application, t he EUT was tested as a stand alone device in order to submit the Transmitter board for modular approval. The EUT will only be used in Digitrax, Inc. products and in similar packaging arrangements as previously approved. The EUT meets all of the module design requirements except for the requirement for having its own RF shielding. Technical Information regarding these issues has been supplied to the uploaded to the FCC in the Operational Description Folder. Since the EUT does not meet with the shielding requirements, the wish to pursue a "Limited Modular Approval" (LMA). I hope that you find that this information fulfills the necessary FCC requirements for the Part 15 Certification requirements. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at (770)741-0717. Sincerely, Timothy R. Johnson NARTE Certified EMC Engineer No. EMC-002205-NE

Model RF1. The EUT is a 916.5 MHz control transmitter that is typically used as part of a system including a 900 MHz receiver. The EUT and the receiver are used in Digitrax LocoNet Systems to control high end model locomotives. The EUT has been previously approved in a Model DT100R throttle controller. The purpose of this application is to test and approve the transmitter as a stand-alone module. The EUT will only be used in Digitrax, Inc. products and in similar packaging arrangements as the previously approved DT100R. Since the EUT meets all of the module design requirements except for its own RF shielding, Digitrax, Inc. wishes to pursue a “Limited Modular Approval” (LMA). 1.2Related Submittal(s)/Grant(s) The EUT will be used with part of a system to send/receive data. The transmitter presented in this report will be used with a receiver, which has been submitted and approved under FCC ID: LV3UR91. The EUT is subject to the following authorizations: a) Certification as a transmitter The information contained in this report is presented for the certification authorization(s) for the EUT. FCC ID: LV3RF1 SECTION 2 TESTS AND MEASUREMENTS FCC ID: LV3RF1 TEST AND MEASUREMENTS 2.1 Configuration of Tested System The sample was tested per ANSI C63.4, Methods of Measurement from Low-Voltage Electrical and Electronic Equipment in the Range of 9 kHz to 40 GHz (1992). Conducted and radiated emissions data were taken with the test receiver or spectrum analyzer's resolution bandwidth adjusted to 9 kHz and 120 kHz, respectively. All measurements are peak unless stated otherwise. The video filter associated with the spectrum analyzer was off throughout the evaluation process. Interconnecting cables were manipulated as necessary to maximize emissions. Interconnecting cables were manipulated as necessary to maximize emissions. A block diagram of the tested system is shown in Figure 1. Test configuration photographs for spurious and fundamental emissions are shown in Figure 2. The sample used for testing was received by U.S. Technologies on June 19, 2000 in good condition. Since the EUT will be incorporated into hand held devices, it was placed into a continuous mode of transmit and rotated about all 3 axis to obtain worse case results. 2.2 Test Facility Testing was performed at US Tech's measurement facility at 3505 Francis Circle, Alpharetta, GA. This site has been fully described and submitted to the FCC, and accepted in their letter marked 31040/SIT. Additionally this site has also been fully described and submitted to Industry Canada (IC), and has been approved under file number IC2982. 2.3 Test Equipment Table 2 describes test equipment used to evaluate this product. 2.4 Modifications No modifications were made by US Tech, to bring the EUT into compliance with FCC Part 15 limits for the transmitter portion of the EUT.
