These comments have been supplied by the customer, and by the testing engineer, Liming Xu. Item #1 - states apparent discrepancy between multislot mode capability. Customer confirmed that they unit operates in MS-8 (1 transmit slot) mode only. He also acknowledged the error on theire web site, and was in the process of correcting it. I have attached corrected brochure, and letter of explanation from the customer. Item #2 - Issue of whether PDA was attache when SAR testing done - Engineer writes: Because EUT must be in coninuous transmitting mode for SAR testing, and PDA can only work in normal operation mode (non-continuous transmitting), the unit had to be programmed by external PC to make the EUT continuous transmitting. During SAR testing PDA was inside portfolio, turned on, but not running the transmit program. PDA was not pictured on front page of SAR report because the portfolio was the actual EUT. Item #3 - Relationship between GSM0107 and GSM0108 modems - I have attached document explaining relationship. Being that it has been dismissed, I did not think I could upload exhibits to system. Enfora L.P. 661 E. 18 th Street Plano, TX 75074-5601 (972) 633-4400 Fax (972) 633-4444 July 8, 2004 RE: Enfora GSM3208, Question Regarding GPRS Operating Mode Reviewing FCC Engineer, We have reviewed our published data sheets for the GSM3208 regarding the Multi-Slot Class of operation and they are in error. The brochure states “Multislot Class: MS10”. This is incorrect and will be corrected next week. The brochure will be corrected to state “Multislot Class: MS-8”. We do not operate this device in MS-10 mode due to a significant decrease in battery life and the lack of need for the PDA to send large amounts of data. The software supplied with the GSM3208 does not have the capability to modify the Multi-Slot Class. I have reviewed our documentation regarding the testing of the GSM3208. The GSM3208 uses an Enfora GSM0108 Quad-Band Modem. During the final factory test of the GSM3208, the Multi-Slot class is verified as MS-8. I am attaching pages 1 & 6 of our confidential GSM3208MG000TRD (Test Requirements Document). On page 6, note the line that starts “$MSCLS: 8”. That confirms that the modem is set to MS-8 operation. I am also attaching the definition of that particular AT Command that sets/reads the MS Class. Sorry for the confusion. Let me know if you have any other questions. Enfora L.P. 661 E. 18 th Street Plano, TX 75074-5601 (972) 633-4400 Fax (972) 633-4444 July 7, 2004 Comparison of Product Variants in the Enabler II-G Family This document is designed to describe the following modules: • GSM0107 (Tri-Band module, remote SIM) • GSM0108 (Quad-Band module, remote SIM) • GSM0107-01 (Tri-Band module with on-board SIM) • GSM0108-01 (Quad-Band module with on-board SIM) • GSM0114 (US Tri-Band, remote SIM) The GSM0107 and GSM0114 versus the GSM0108: The GSM0108 Quad-Band GSM/GPRS module is based entirely on the GSM0107 Tri-Band GSM/GPRS module, the only difference being that in the GSM0108 the GSM850 band has been enabled and the RF calibration files have been populated for that band. The GSM0114 has the RF calibration tables disabled for the GSM900 band. The GSM010x versus the GSM010x-01: The GSM010x-01 versions of the module are the same as the GSM010x modules apart from the fact that the – 01 versions have been addition of the SIM connector fitted to the GSM module instead of using remote SIM. Summary: In all cases the modules run the same software and apart from the difference’s outlined above and are of the same hardware.
GSM3208 Operational Description Power Management The device uses a SPDT push button momentary switch to activate a D Flip-Flop circuit. This circuit controls the Power MOSFET that supplies battery power to the GSM/GPRS Wireless Modem (Host System). The digital circuitry is powered from a 3.3V linear regulator. It has extensive filtering at the regulator as well as the individual IC’s. A separate auxiliary.3.3V linear regulator supports the battery LED status. The device uses a single cell 650mA-hr internal non-removable battery with a built-in protection circuit. The charger is a linear charger with internal MOSFET control and external filtering. It is powered by a regulated external 5V wall mount supply. Filtering and circuit protection are accomplished with the use of a shunt capacitor, series coil, and a transorb device on the input power supply. LED status indicators Two LED’s are used to indicate battery status and registration status. The interface to the host is via a traditional asynchronous serial data port. The ACT-IR8200L uses an external 22.1184MHz reference crystal. The host has full control of the communication sessions and data flow. The ACT-IR8200L communications to the ACT-IR220VACF (half-duplex Infrared processor) thru RS232 data lines. The ACT-IR220VACF encodes RS232 compatible data to IrDA compatible signal and decodes IrDA compatible signals to RS232 data at a baud rate up to 115.2kbps. A crystal of 3.6864MHz is used for pulse stretching and shortening, this allows for IrPHY modulation schemes. The IrDA Encoder/Decoder is connected to the transceiver thru an IR cable assembly. Audio Interface An onboard fully differential audio power amplifier is connected to the Host. A 2.5mm Audio plug is provided for user interface. A SIM card reader connector 3. 6 pin De-Bug interface PCB Antenna The Enfora Wireless GSM/GPRS Portfolio is a device that incorporates an internal antenna for wireless communication. The antenna is a variation of a simple F-Type, made of copper etched on PCB, and is connected to the GSM/GPRS modem by a 45mm coaxial cable. To achieve the proper radiation pattern the field around the antenna must be free of any reference ground plane; therefore the antenna is placed in a region of the PCB void of any ground plane (approx. 1-inch wide area between the ground plane and edge of the PCB.) Normal operation of the antenna is achieved only when the portfolio is completely assembled. The dielectrics of the PCB (FR4 material, 62mil thick, 4-layer stack-up) and the plastic housing that fits over the PCB affect the tuning of the antenna. The combined dielectric of the PCB and the housing tunes the antenna to the quad band frequencies of 850,900,1800 and 1900 MHz.
