Safety 1st® Grow-With-Me Intercom Monitor Owner’s Guide No. 49240 Introduction Thank you for purchasing the Safety 1st Grow-With-Me Intercom Monitor. This is a multifunctional, state-of-the-art monitor that features a convenient intercom mode that allows two way communication between the parent’s unit and the baby’s unit. This unique monitor allows you to soothe baby with your voice and communicate directly back and forth as the child grows older, thus offering you years of extended use. The baby’s unit has continuous transmission that sends your baby’s sounds to the parent’s unit. The parent’s unit contains a talk switch with a lock-out feature for parental control, thus providing complete 2-way communication. By using 900MHz technology, these units provide superior clarity with an extended range of up to 1000 feet. The baby’s unit can also be simply converted to a fully portable toddler unit by removing it from its base and easily clipping it to the child’s clothing. Both units feature unique “rubberized” bases that allow them to placed on dresser tops and counters more securely. The parent’s unit may be clipped to a belt for additional mobility, and utilizes and audio and visual alarm to indicate signal loss. The units have 4 channels to minimize outside interference and offer additional privacy. The parents’ unit may be used with AC power or with 4 AAA batteries (not included) for portability. Date:05/21/01 Re:Model 49240 Circuit Description The 900 MHz “Grow with Me” Intercom Monitor model 49240 will be referred to as the equipment under test (EUT) in this report. The EUT is a nursery monitoring system designed to be a high quality, low cost audio two-way monitor for home use. This monitor will transmit audible sounds to and from the Child Unit and Parent Unit. The frequency band chosen for this product is the 902-928 MHz ISM band. This product is part of an ongoing family of nursery monitors provided by Safety 1 st . The Child and Parent units operate on one of four RF channel pairs. The units are full- duplex and their associated RF frequencies are listed in the attached in channel table. An external switch controls the channel selection on both units. Child Unit – Device Operation When in transmit mode (default), the microphone picks up the room sounds and amplifies the signal through an audio amplifier. This signal is controlled by an automatic gain control (AGC) circuit to limit the FM modulation. The amplified audio signal is coupled directly into the audio input of the Samsung FM transceiver module. The transceiver module form Samsung is a complete full-duplex, 900 MHz, crystal controlled FM modulator/demodulator system. The RF transceiver input/output is connected to the external fixed antenna. When in receive mode, the RF signal is collected at the antenna input of the transceiver module and FM demodulated to an audio signal. The recovered audio signal is amplified to a speaker for sound recovery. A 3.6V NiCAD battery or an AC/DC wall adapter powers the unit. Parent Unit – Device Operation The Parent device operation is the same as the Child unit with the exception that the Parent unit requires a push-to-talk button to go into transmits mode. Receive mode is the default for the Parent unit. Four “AAA” alkaline batteries or an AC/DC wall adapter powers the unit.

DESCRIPTION GENERAL The GROW WITH ME 49240T is a 2 way baby monitor that operates in the 902 to 928 MHz band and contains 40 channels. Pre-programmed software allows four of the forty channels to be selected between 925.30 MHz and 927.25 MHz in 50 kHz steps. Currently, the four channels used are 926.1 MHz, 926.3 MHz, 926.5 MHz and 926.7 MHz. The GROW WITH ME 49240T is a transceiver that typically is in transmit mode until it receives a signal from a second transceiver that places it into receive mode. Radiated test procedure: The EUT, associated cables and peripheral devices are placed on the supporting table and any support equipment is placed off the site. The EUT is turned on and any necessary operating or test software installed and allowed to warm up. The frequency band from 30 MHz to 40 GHz is scanned. When an emission is found the emission is maximized by varying the bundle position of the connecting cables, the antenna height, the antenna polarization (vertical and horizontal) and the table orientation (360 degrees). The maximum reading is recorded and the next signal is searched for. Conducted test procedure: The power line of the EUT is connected to the LISN (Line Impedance Stabilization Network). Measurements of the emissions are made from the power line for both phase and neutral on the analyzer in the frequency range from 450 kHz to 30 MHz. The maximum readings are recorded for each phase. All measurements are made according to the procedures defined in: "ANSI C63.4-1992 Standard Methods of Measurement of Radio Noise Emissions from Low-Voltage Electrical and Electronics Equipment in the Range of 9 kHz to 40 GHz, American National Standard for (ISBN 1- 55937-215-5).
