FCC ID: MQ4WB1K5S After a review of the submitted information, I have a few comments on the above referenced Application. 1) Please explain the intended end use for this device and how the antennas will be positioned for purposes of meeting RF exposure conditions. For example, the device is classified as portable, therefore please justify how the antennas will maintain the 2.5 cm distance specified in the users manual. 2) This device appears to be tested in a laptop, but it is uncertain how will the end user place the antenna's? It appears that this device may actually be intended for integration purposes. NOTE: If this device is intended for integration purposes only (i.e. access points, etc), it is best to treat this as a modular approval. This would require radiated testing on an extension card so that it is not installed inside the laptop. It would also require a cover letter addressing the modular requirements, different labeling information, and additional manual statements. As a reference, you may review FCC ID: O6M-WM302. Please note that this example was higher power and treated as a mobile product instead of portable as this device is specified as. 3) The users manual does not appear to contain the statements as required by 15.21. 4) FYI, Due to concerns with how to treat the device for RF exposure, as well as if the device was properly configured in a stand-alone configuration for radiated emissions, we have not yet reviewed the measurement report portion of this application. FCC ID: MQ4WB1K5S After a review of the submitted information, I have a few comments on the above referenced Application. 1) The revised users manual presents information for both end users and also for access point manufactures. There are different concerns for each of these uses (end-users vs. access point manufacturers) and will actually require 2 separate FCC ID numbers due to different RF exposure conditions, end use configurations, and modular approval access point applications. Please see the following concerns. a) End Users: It is not clear how an end user (a typical everyday user) is expected to use this device with 2 antennas on short cables coming from the EUT. This poses several RF exposure concerns. How is an end user be expected to position the antennas (for instance there is no mechanical device provided for holding the antennas) if they were to use a laptop computer while positioned in their lap? It is not certain how this may be marketed to an end user given the nature of external antennas. The FCC is very concerned with how a device is to be used, especially in portable applications. Specific information is required in order to evaluate RF exposure conditions such as typically uses, placement of antennas, power outputs, etc. Simple instructions to the user are not usually sufficient for this type of product. Please explain and provide further details. b) Access Point Manufacturers: If this is designed for integration by access point manufactures, then it must be approved in a modular fashion (otherwise the integrators MUST certify their entire device, including the transmitter). If AboCom System, Inc. desires a modular approval, then a cover letter addressing all the modular requirements must be submitted (please see 1 st attachment). Additionally, for radiated emissions, the device would have to be tested in a fashion out in the open (for instance on a PCMCIA extender card). The users manual should also be updated for various issues (see 2 nd attachment). VCC1 and VCC3 are regulated, but other portions of the schematics are labeled with voltage values. Please provide a complete description how the device meet the power regulation requirements for modular approval. 2) Since this device is intended as a module and will be integrated by other manufacturers, the FCC logo is not required on the label since the device is not considered a PC peripheral device by itself. Please note that it is the integrators responsibility to retest any applicable digital device or PC peripheral device test requirements. Please correct the label. Additionally, please remove the DoC label from page 3 of the users manual. 3) The manual should provide further information and better detail as to a) how the OEM must use the module in order to maintain RF exposure compliance, b) information that they must supply in their manual, c) and that the modular transmitter approval is limited only to devices that can maintain the 20 cm distance between the antenna and body. In order to make sure that the integrators are given enough information, please see the provided separate attachment for suggested statements to be added to the users manual. Please provide a corrected users manual. 4) The test report states the EUT was connected to a Notebook (Section 2.2). This was not correct, please comment. 5) Please provide information regarding the RBW and VBW settings applied for AVG emissions > 1 GHz. Timothy R. Dear Timothy, Because our client, AboCom Systems, Inc., decided to apply for Module approval, we remeasured the test as per FCC P15 standard recorded in the report. But I have one question need your opinion. Because this project (applied for end-user) has submitted to your review before, it changes to apply for Modular approval now. Should I send all the documents to you for reviewing or it would be ok if I just send the relative documents to you? Even though I'm awaiting your comments, I still send all the documents to you for reviewing which deems to a new project. And I hope that won't be too confused for you too much. Technical Description Media Access Controller (MAC) with Baseband Processor Unit (U9) U9 is a single-chip wireless LAN integrated controller that provides all processing and functionality needed for the MAC protocol of wireless LAN. It has on-board A/D and D/A for analog I and Q inputs and outputs, for which the U10 is recommended. Firmware, which stored by Flash (U16), implements the Wireless LAN MAC protocol and some configurations parameters for the PC Card. I/Q Modulator/Demodulator and Synthesizer (U10) It features all the necessary blocks for quadrature modulation and demodulation of βIβ and βQβ baseband signals. The receive and transmit IF paths can share a common differential matching network. 2.4GHz RF/IF Converter and Synthesizer (U11) The receive chain features a low noise, gain selectable amplifier followed by a down-converter mixer. Itβs input from Antenna connector (RF signal). Output IF signal to U10. An up-converter mixer and a high performance preamplifier compose the transmit chain. The remaining circuitry comprises a high frequency Phase Locked Loop synthesizer with a three wire programmable interface for local oscillator applications. It receive IF signals from U10, then up to 2.4GHz (RF signal) output to U3 by up-converter with LO. 2.4GHz Power Amplifier and Detector (U3) It is input from U11, and output to antenna connector.
