American Telecommunications Certification Body Inc. 6731 Whittier Ave, McLean, VA 22101 December 3, 2001 RE: ASUSTek Computer Inc. FCC ID: MSQPCCAC100 After a review of the submitted information, I have a few comments on the above referenced Application. 1) The internal photographs may not normally be held confidential strictly on the basis of trade secrets. Please remove this justification from the letter of confidentiality or provide a better justification. As an alternative, you may use a black marker to "black out" the top of any readable components and provide new internal photographs. 2) Please provide a FRN Number for ASUSTek Computer. This is now required for all Grantees - (reference MD Docket No. 00-205). To obtain an FRN online, visit the FCC's Web site at www.fcc.gov and click the Commission Registration System (CORES) link. For further assistance, please either refer to the FAQ at this same link; contact the CORES helpdesk at [email protected]; or call the CORES helpdesk toll-free number: 1-877- 480-3201. 3) Is the Digital Device Portion of the product considered to be Class B? If so, then the label should also include the appropriate Part 15 DoC labeling information since the EUT is considered to be a PC peripheral. Also, the compliance information sheet (either separate sheet or in the manual) should be uploaded as part of the manual exhibit. 4) The test report states that the external antenna is designed such that no other antenna may be used with the device. However, it appears that the part for the antenna connects via an SMA type of connector according to the schematics. Please comment. 5) The end user should not be capable of adjusting the channel set beyond the frequency band specified by the FCC. Please comment on precautions taken by the manufacture to ensure that channels above 11 are not accessible in the United States. 6) The power listed on the 731 should be listed in the same manner as the limit set by the FCC (i.e. ERP, EIRP, or conducted). For this application, the power listed on the 731 form should be specified as the maximum conducted power measured (16.62 dBm = 23 mW) and not the EIRP measurement. Please provide a corrected copy of the 731. 7) The MPE statements in the manual would be more conspicuous if located next the description of how to adjust the antenna. It would be recommended to place another more conspicuous CAUTION STATEMENT here for the end user. 8) The MPE calculations should be made with the maximum antenna conducted measurement made and not the EIRP measurement. Please correct this item within this exhibit. 9) Please confirm that the bandedge plots were taken at 3 meters. 10) Please confirm if the RBW and VBW settings were set to RBW = 1 MHz and VBW = 10 Hz for average detection > 1 GHz. 11) Please upload test configuration photographs exhibit. Timothy R. Johnson Examining Engineer mailto: [email protected] The items indicated above must be submitted before processing can continue on the above referenced application. Failure to provide the requested information may result in application termination. Correspondence should be considered part of the permanent submission and may be viewed from the Internet after a Grant of Equipment Authorization is issued. Please do not respond to this correspondence using the email reply button. In order for your response to be processed expeditiously, you must submit your documents through the AmericanTCB.com website. Also, please note that partial responses increase processing time and should not be submitted. Any questions about the content of this correspondence should be directed to the sender.

FCC ID: MSQPCCAC100 After a review of the submitted information, I have a few comments on the above referenced Application. 1) Regarding previous issue #1, none of the newly uploaded files contained a corrected letter of confidentiality. Also, are you planning on providing updated internal photographs with the tops of components "blacked out", or are you only removing confidentiality from the letter 2) Since the EUT is also regarded as a class B PC peripheral, please provide the compliance information sheet (either separate sheet or in the manual) as part of the manual exhibit (CFR 2.1077). 3) Regarding the antenna connector, it is still unclear whether the connection is a standard SMA or a unique type of connector? This connector must meet the unique antenna requirements specified by 15.203. You stated in your response that the users can not detach the antenna. Please explain exactly what type of connector this is (using drawings if necessary) and why the user can not detach the antenna. 4) FYI, this test report did not contain any average measurements for spurious emissions > 1 GHz. This is quite acceptable since the peak measurements made meet both the peak and average limits. However, for future reference using a RBW of 100 kHz as specified by your response is NOT considered to be more severe than a RBW = 1 MHz, especially for transmitters with wider band emissions. This is because the larger RBW integrates the received measurements and gives you a higher reading than lower RBW. It also meets the specifications given by the FCC in Appendix B of ET Docket No. 96-8 & RM-8435, RM-8608, RM-8609. Please see attachment. Timothy R.
