September 3, 1999 To:Frank Coperich FCC Application Processing Branch Re:Novatel Wireless FCC ID: NBZNRM-6831 Correspondence Reference Number:8701 EA Number: EA94035 Response to e-mail request for technical information dated 07/13/1999. Frank, We will respond to your letter point by point. 1.) Thank you. The emission classification of FXW is acceptable. 2.) We have measured the 99.75% Power Bandwidth at several places in the band using the –26 dBc methodology. Under worst case conditions we have found it to be 30 KHz. Please change the necessary bandwidth to 30K0. 3.) Please find attached the test report from MPB Technologies Inc. dated August 28, 1999 for radiated spurious emissions. 4.) Please find attached the test report from MPB Technologies Inc. dated August 28, 1999 for radiated ERP data. 5.) The SAR report shows the correct conducted power reading as 480 mW as manufactured. The equipment available for the EMC report was an engineering test sample. 6.) The manual supplied was preliminary. No booster amplifiers or antennas other than what was tested will be marketed. The Applicant is aware that other antenna combinations will require retesting and submission to the Commission. 7.) Please ignore earlier MPE data and warning statements. 8.) Thank you for this information. Sincerely, William Graff Director of Engineering M. Flom Associates

Prior to making any measurements, the measurements system was calibrated in accordance with the manufacturer’s procedures. 3. The EUT’s radiating element (antenna) was placed on a 1 m tall table for ease of testing. For equipment normally operated on a metal surface, a ground plane was used. 4. The remaining equipment necessary to operate the EUT was maintained at a distance from the measurement arrangement suitable to minimize interference with the measurements. 5. The minimum safe distance was calculated from the formula Power Density = EIRP / 4πR 2 (Peak Watts/m 2 ). The calculation is shown with the measurement data. 6. With the EUT operating at maximum power, a search was initiated for worst case emissions with the probe raised and lowered over a range of 0.2 to 2 meters in height and over a ho…

Equipment:PCMCIA card Model:Merlin Standard:FCC 96 –326, Guidelines for Evaluating the Environmental Effects of Radio-Frequency Radiation ENGINEERING SUMMARY This report contains the results of the engineering evaluation performed on a Compaq Laptop with a Merlin PCMCIA card. The measurements were carried out in accordance with FCC 96-326. The Merlin PCMCIA card was evaluated for its maximum power level of 480 mW (26.8 dBm). The Laptop with PCMCIA card was tested at high, middle, and low frequencies, with the maximum SAR coinciding with the peak performance RF output power of channel 991 (low, 824 MHz). Test data and graphs are presented in this report. This unit as tested, and as it will be marketed and used (with a warning in the manual to keep bystanders at least 7 mm or ¼′′ from the antenna), is found to be compliant with the FCC 96- 326 requirement, for an uncontrolled RF exposure environment. .
