Data may be delayed, corrupted (i.e., have errors), or be totally lost. Significant delays or losses of data are rare when wireless devices such as the Viper are used in a normal manner with a well-constructed network. Viper should not be used in situations where failure to transmit or receive data could result in damage of any kind to the user or any other party, including but not limited to personal injury, death, or loss of property. CalAmp accepts no responsibility for damages of any kind resulting from delays or errors in data transmitted or received using Viper, or for the failure of Viper to transmit or receive such data. The offer of supply of these products and services does not include or infer any transfer of ownership. No part of the documentation or information supplied may be divulged to any third party without the express written consent of CalAmp. RF EXPOSURE COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS The Viper radio is intended for use in the Industrial Monitoring and Control and SCADA markets. The Viper unit must be professionally installed and must ensure a minimum separation distance listed in the table below between the radiating structure and any person. An antenna mounted on a pole or tower is the typical installation and in rare instances, a 1/2- wave whip antenna is used. RF Exposure Antenna Gain 5 dBi 10 dBi 15 dBi Min Safety Distance (VHF @ max Power) 123cm 218.8cm 389cm Min Safety Distance (UHF @ max Power) 105.7cm 188cm 334.4cm Min Safety Distance (900 MHz @ max power) 63.8cm 115 cm 201.7 cm Note: It is the responsibility of the user to guarantee compliance with the FCC MPE regulations when operating this device in a way other than described above. The Viper radio uses a low power radio frequency transmitter. The concentrated energy from an antenna may pose a health hazard. People should not be in front of the antenna when the transmitter is operating. The installer of this equipment must ensure the antenna is located or pointed such that it does not emit an RF field in excess of Health Canada limits for the general population. Recommended safety guidelines for the human exposure to radio frequency electromagnetic energy are contained in the Canadian Safety Code 6 (available from Health Canada) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Bulletin 65. Any changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance (in the country where used) could void the user's authority to operate the equipment. REGULATORY CERTIFICATIONS The Viper radio is available in several different models each with unique frequency bands. Each model of Viper may have different regulatory approval as shown in the table below. UL Certification All models UL approved when powered with a listed Class 2 source. Calamp Wireless Networks Corporation Waseca, Minnesota Calamp Wireless Networks Corporation hereby requests that our grant for NP4-5098-502 list frequencies outside of the FCC allocated Part 24, 90 and Part 101 frequencies. Calamp Wireless Networks Corporation acknowledges that it is a violation of FCC rules if the device operates on unauthorized frequencies. The device is professionally installed and it is up to the installer to determine if the device operates on authorized frequencies. The device was tested and complies with the more stringent standard between Part 24, 90 and Part 101 across the frequency range 928-960MHz. Chris Ludewig Director of Engineering

Calamp Wireless Networks Corporation Waseca, Minnesota ENGINEERING STATEMENT OF Dale E Jordan The application consisting of the attached engineering exhibit and associated FCC form 731 has been prepared in support of a request for Certification for Viper 900 Transceiver. The transceiver will be identified by the FCC number NP4-5098-502. The transceiver operates pursuant to Part(s) 24, 90 and 101 of the Rules and Regulations. EXISTING CONDITIONS Calamp has completed assembly of a final engineering prototype of the Viper 900 Transceiver. The units utilized for these type acceptance measurements were obtained from the final engineering prototype. The transceiver is designed to operate on frequencies ranging from 928 to 960 MHz. The frequency tolerance of the transceiver is 1.0 parts per million. A Digitally Controlled Crystal Oscillator (DCXO) operating at 23.04 MHz controls the frequency stability of the transceiver. PROPOSED CONDITIONS It is proposed to certify the Viper 900 Transceiver for operation in the band of frequencies previously outlined. The applicant anticipates marketing the device for use in wireless transmission of data. PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS All Certification measurements were conducted in accordance with Section 2.1033 of 47 CFR 2008 of the Rules and Regulations. Equipment performance measurements were made in the engineering laboratory and on the FCC certified test range at Calamp in Waseca, Minnesota. All measurements were made and recorded by myself or under my direction. The performance measurements were made between March 1, 2010 and August 4, 2010. CONCLUSION Given the results of the Viper 900 Transceiver measurements contained herein, the applicant requests that the Certification be granted for the Viper 900 Transceiver as tested for data communications. 8/4/10 Electrical Engineer, Calamp Wireless Networks Corporation
Viper Tune Up Procedure The radio will be connected to an automatic testing station where a software program will tune all the radio parameters. The following instructions summarize the procedure for tuning the output power. The tuning program will key up the radio at four points across the band and sets the power to 10W. Power control is achieved by controlling the voltage on the first stage of the transmitter, which controls the RF drive to the following stages. The power output is programmable by using a digital to analog converter (DAC) on the RF board. This DAC is controlled by the on-board microprocessor. Once the DAC value is determined for these four frequencies the processor interpolates the DAC value for frequencies in between the calibrated frequencies. This ensures equal power output across the entire RF band. The tuning program then will tune the radio at four points across the band at 1W by following the same procedure. The processor interpolates the DAC value for power values between the calibrated powers. Note: Deviation is a preprogrammed set value for all radios.
