"Important Notice FOR ALL USERS OR DISTRIBUTORS!!!! Intel wireless LAN adapters are engineered, manufactured, tested, and quality checked to ensure that they meet all necessary local and governmental regulatory agency requirements for the regions that they are designated and/or marked to ship into. Since wireless LANs are generally unlicensed devices that share spectrum with radars, satellites, and other licensed and unlicensed devices, it is sometimes necessary to dynamically detect, avoid, and limit usage to avoid interference with these devices. In many instances Intel is required to provide test data to prove regional and local compliance to regional and governmental regulations before certification or approval to use the product is granted. Intel's wireless LAN's EEPROM, firmware, and software driver are designed to carefully control parameters that affect radio operation and to ensure electromagnetic compliance (EMC). These parameters include, without limitation, RF power, spectrum usage, channel scanning, and human exposure. For these reasons Intel cannot permit any manipulation by third parties of the software provided in binary format with the wireless LAN adapters (e.g., the EEPROM and firmware). Furthermore, if you use any patches, utilities, or code with the Intel wireless LAN adapters that have been manipulated by an unauthorized party (i.e., patches, utilities, or code (including open source code modifications) which have not been validated by Intel), (i) you will be solely responsible for ensuring the regulatory compliance of the products, (ii) Intel will bear no liability, under any theory of liability for any issues associated with the modified products, including without limitation, claims under the warranty and/or issues arising from regulatory non-compliance, and (iii) Intel will not provide or be required to assist in providing support to any third parties for such modified products. Note: Many regulatory agencies consider Wireless LAN adapters to be "modules", and accordingly, condition system-level regulatory approval upon receipt and review of test data documenting that the antennas and system configuration do not cause the EMC and radio operation to be non-compliant." October 30, 2006 American TCB 6731 Whittier Ave., Suite C110 McLean, VA 22101 Gentlemen: The attached documentation is provided in support of a formal submission to your organization for a modular approval of an intentional unlicensed transmitter. On behalf of our client, Aegis Labs has included an application for a Grant of Equipment Authorization pursuant to Subpart C of part 15 of FCC Rules (47 CFR) regarding intentional radiators. The data within the test report demonstrates the equipment was tested in a manner described under Part 2 and 15 of the Code of Federal Regulations. This is a modular approval of the Intel PRO/Wireless 4965AGN Network Connection (MN: 4965AGN, FCC ID: PD94965AGN), which is a WLAN adapter (802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, and 802.11n). It was tested externally to a computer chassis with a set of Ethertronics Antennas continuously transmitting and receiving form Chain A, B, and C antenna ports. If there are any additional questions or if further information is needed, please contact us at your earliest convenience. Sincerely, Johnny Candelas Aegis Labs, Inc. MPE Calculations Systems operating under the provision of 47 CFR 1.1307(b)(1) shall be operated in a manor that ensures that the public is not exposed to radio frequency energy levels in excess of the FCC guidelines. The EUT will only be used with a separation of 20 centimeters or greater between the antenna and the body of the user or nearby persons and can therefore be considered a mobile transmitter per 47 CFR 2.1091(b). The MPE calculation for this exposure is shown below. Using the Antennas with highest output power: The peak radiated output power (EIRP) is calculated as follows: Antenna Frequency (GHz) Power input to the antenna (P) (dBm) Power gain of the antenna (G) (dBi) EIRP (P+G) (dBm) EIRP Log -1(dBm/10) (mW) Ethertronics (Chain A) 2.4 23.83 3.00 26.83 481.95 Ethertronics (Chain A) 5 20.91 5.00 25.91 389.94 Ethertronics (Chain B) 2.4 23.63 3.00 26.63 460.26 Ethertronics (Chain B) 5 20.61 5.00 25.61 363.92 EIRP = P + G Where P = Power input to the antenna (mW). G = Power gain of the antenna (dBi) The numeric gain (G) of the antenna with a gain specified in dB is determined by: Antenna Frequency (GHz) Antenna Gain (G) (dBi) Numeric Antenna Gain Log -1(dBm/10) (dB) Ethertronics (Chain A) 2.4 3.00 2.00 Ethertronics (Chain A) 5 5.00 3.16 Ethertronics (Chain B) 2.4 3.00 2.00 Ethertronics (Chain B) 5 5.00 3.16 G = Log -1 (dB antenna gain/10) Power density at the specific separation: Antenna Frequency (GHz) Power input to the antenna (P) (mW) Numeric Power Gain of the Antenna (G) (dB) Maximum Power Spectral Density S=PG/(4R 2 π) (mW/cm 2 ) Maximum Power Spectral Density Limit (mW/cm 2 ) Ethertronics (Chain A) 2.4 241.55 2.00 0.096 1.00 Ethertronics (Chain A) 5 123.31 3.16 0.078 1.00 Ethertronics (Chain B) 2.4 230.67 2.00 0.092 1.00 Ethertronics (Chain B) 5 115.08 3.16 0.072 1.00 S = PG/(4R 2 π) Where S = Maximum power density (mW/cm 2 ) P = Power input to the antenna (mW). G = Numeric power gain of the antenna R = Distance to the center of the radiation of the antenna (20cm = limit for MPE) The maximum permissible exposure (MPE) for the general population is 1mW/cm 2 . The power density at 20cm does not exceed the 1mW/cm 2 limit. Therefore, the exposure condition is compliant with FCC rules. The MPCI-8 model, part of the IMD Family of WLAN Internal Antennas, is a single element internal (embedded) antenna module for Worldwide WLAN applications. MPCI-8 supports 802.11a/b/g protocols throughout the world including the newly licensed 4.9 MHz Japanese spectrum. The MPCI-8 module is a complete solution consisting of one GS Isolated Magnetic Dipole™ (IMD) antenna with a high performance cable and connector. The IMD antenna’s small size and high isolation properties make the MPCI-8 easy to integrate into notebooks and other mobile devices, while offering the ability to be used in a diversity configuration. Ethertronics’ proprietary and patented IMD antenna technology offers three distinct advantages over traditional internal antennas: High Performance • High efficiency • Up to 50% higher signal strength than other internal antennas High Isolation/Selectivity • Minimal coupling between antennas (isolation of 20- 40 dB) • Ideal for diversity applications • Reduced EMI with surrounding components • Makes integration easy Shaping Technology • Controls and redirects the near-field electromagnetic distribution of the antenna’s wave • Optimizes antenna performance by improving signal strength and data quality inside buildings, in noisy environments and in fringe network coverage areas • Less interaction with surrounding objects The MPCI-8 module is ideally suited for manufacturers where performance, size and costs are critical. The design’s low profile, small form factor and industry standard cabling/connectors are suited for high volume applications. Standard assemblies are available or the antenna can be configured to suit individual OEM requirements.
