Calgary, Alberta T2E 7J9 Phone: (403) 230-1122 Fax: (403) 276-9575 http://www.encomwireless.com/ RF EXPOSURE This module has been designed to comply with FCC RF exposure requirements outlined in Parts 2.1091, 2.1093, and 15.247(b)(4). Deviation from the recommended installation may violate RF exposure requirements. The manual for end users of the final product which incorporates the ENC-900 module must contain the following statement in a prominent location: To comply with FCC RF exposure requirements for mobile transmitting devices, this transmitter should only be used or installed at locations where there is at least 20cm separation distance between the antenna and all persons. FCC NOTIFICATIONS The ENC-900 module generates radio frequency energy. It must be installed according to the manufacturer’s guidelines or it has the potential to cause interference with other radio devices. Testing has been performed to assure that it conforms with the FCC Part 15 rules for intentional and unintentional radiators. No further EMI compliance testing of the transmitter is required as long as the 20 cm separation and co- location requirements are observed. Each new use of the module will, however, always need to be scanned for unintentional radiation from digital clocks, etc. All necessary calibration has been performed at the time of manufacture. Any modification of the device after it leaves the factory is a violation of FCC rules. Compliance Statement (Part 15.19) This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules and with RSS-210 of Industry Canada. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: 1. This device may not cause harmful interference, and 2. This device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. Warning (Part 15.21) Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user’s authority to operate the equipment. RF Exposure (OET Bulletin 65) To comply with FCC RF exposure requirements for mobile transmitting devices, this transmitter should only be used or installed at locations where there is at least 20cm separation distance between the antenna and all persons. LABELING REQUIREMENTS The FCC requires that the Part 15 statement be installed on the outside of the final product in a manner which allows it to be seen and read. The accepted statement and a sample label format are as follows: This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: 1. This device may not cause harmful interference, and 2. This device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. Contains TX FCC ID: PLQENC900 Canada: 3966A-ENC900 S/N: XXXYYYZZZ MODEL: ENC-900 Made in Canada The label should be printed or molded into the case using a type front and size that is readable with the unaided eye. The FCC identification number is required. Industry Canada Statement The term “IC” before the certification / registration number only signifies that the Industry Canada technical specifications were met. 900 MHz Spread-Spectrum OEM Radio Modem WARNING In order to comply with the FCC/IC adopted RF exposure requirements, this transmitter system will only be installed according to manufacturer’s Installation Guidelines. Installation of all antennas must be performed in a manner that will provide at least 20cm clearance from the front radiating aperture, to any user or member of the public. This transceiver is a complete RF module with an integral reference oscillator. External connections are provided for power, data communication, and antenna. The following numbered items correspond to similarly numbered paragraphs in DA00- 1407. Each item is a response to the requirements of that document. 1) The module has integral RF shielding to isolate it from surrounding equipment and the larger environment in general. 2) All inputs are processed as data by the on-board microcontroller. The outside user has no direct control of transmit modulation. 3) There is not a hardware voltage regulator on board. Instead, the microcontroller monitors power supply voltage on a continuous basis. Should the supply voltage be found to be outside of the normal specified operating parameters the unit will refuse to transmit. Further, conducted testing has shown that that unit operates within the stated Part 15 requirements when operated within the specified supply voltage range. (For FCC information only, the allowable operating voltage range is from 3.75VDC to 3.85VDC, the embedded microprocessor will refuse to transmit if supply voltage outside this range). 4) A NON standard MCX style connector is employed to prevent the use of antennas other than the type specified. ENCOM is also offering an RF jumper cable from MCX to RPTNC and permanently connected RPTNC pigtail in all the approved antennas. This is in accordance with Part 15.203. 5) The module was tested in a stand-alone configuration and found to be compliant with Part 15 regulations. ENCOM Wireless Data Solutions Inc. #7, 640 - 42 Avenue NE Calgary, Alberta, Canada T2E 7J9 Phone (403) 230-1122 Fax (403) 276-9575 www.encomwireless.com Wireless Solutions for Traffic Monitoring and Control 6) An FCC ID label is affixed to each unit at the time of manufacture. Information is also clearly presented in the user guide about labeling requirements for the final assembly. 7) This unit is compliant with Part 15.247. Installation and other requirements are presented in the user guide to allow the unit to be correctly installed. 8) The unit is compliant with the RF exposure requirements of Parts 15.247, 15.1091, and 15.1093. Introduction Between August 31 ST ,2004, through February 19 TH , 2005, a series of Conducted and Radiated RF Emission tests were performed on one sample of the Encom Wireless Data Solutions’, Model Number: ‘ENC-900 (100 mW) Radio Module’, Serial Number: ‘Engineering Unit #43’, here forth referred to as the “Equipment Under Test” or “EUT”. These tests were performed using the procedures outlined in ANSI C63.4-2003 for intentional radiators, and in accordance with the limits set forth in FCC Part 15.247 (Industry Canada RSS-210) for a transmitter or intentional radiator. These tests were performed by Abtin Spantman, EMC Engineer at L.S. Compliance, Incorporated. All Radiated and Conducted Emission tests were performed upon the EUT to measure the emissions in the frequency bands described in Title 47 CFR, FCC Part 15, including 15.35, 15.209, 15.247 and Industry Canada RSS-210 to determine whether these emissions are below the limits expressed within the standards. These tests were performed in accordance with the procedures described in the American National Standard for methods of measurement of Radio- Noise Emissions from Low-Voltage Electrical and Electronic Equipment in the Range of 9 kHz to 40 GHz (ANSI C63.4-2003).
