Section 1 6Getting Started With Sprint PCS Service  Your driver’s license number  Pen and paper to write down your new Sprint PCS Communicator Number Calling to Activate from your New Sprint PCS Communicator < Will insert correct info and graphics here when activation process is finalized.> To use your new Sprint PCS Communicator to activate your module: 1. Fully charge your battery (see page 5). 2. Press and hold the Power button on the SB3000 for one second to turn the module on (see page 22). The Phone application launches automatically. <Need graphic of Dialpad screen before activation -- time/ date/no VM icon showing on top line> 3. Tap to reach a Sprint PCS Customer Advocate. You must be in a Sprint PCS Service Area when making this call. Setting Up Your Voicemail All unanswered calls to your Sprint PCS Communicator are automatically transferred to voicemail, even if your module is in use or turned off. To avoid missing any important messages, you will want to set up your Sprint PCS voicemail box and personal greeting as soon as your Sprint PCS Communicator is activated. Tip: The Dialpad screen is the default starting view in the Phone application. You can change the starting view by using the Phone Preferences menu item. See page 105 for more information. Note: The voicemail setup process may vary in certain affiliate areas. Getting Started With Sprint PCS Service 7 Getting Started 1 1 Understanding Roaming 1 1 1 To set up voicemail: 1. Follow the system prompts to create your passcode, record your greeting, record your name announcement, and choose whether to activate One- Touch Message Access (a feature that lets you press one key to access messages and eliminates the need for you to enter your passcode). Simply dial 1-888-211-4PCS (4727) from any phone, or tap on the Dialpad screen of your activated Sprint PCS Communicator. You must be in a Sprint PCS Service area when making this call. Once you dial Sprint PCS Customer Care, you can access a number of helpful account services through our automated Customer Care line. By following the voice prompts, you’ll be able to learn more about Sprint PCS Products and Services, get Sprint PCS coverage by zip code or request a copy of your invoice. Tip: If you need to reach Sprint PCS Customer Care while you are off the Sprint PCS Network, dial 1-888- 211-4PCS (4727). Tip: If you have a question regarding the operation of your Sprint PCS Communicator, dial 1-888-211-4PCS (4727) from another phone so you can use your Sprint PCS Communicator while speaking with Customer Care. This information includes balance due, payment received, billing cycle and the amount of minutes used since your last billing cycle. Follow these steps to access this information: 1. On the Dialpad screen, tap . 2. Follow the voice prompts to receive the information you want. Sprint PCS Directory Assistance Sprint PCS Directory Assistance provides a variety of services, including: residential, business and government listings; assistance with local or long-distance calls; movie listings; hotel, restaurant and shopping information and major local event information. There is a per call charge and you will be billed for airtime.  On the Dialpad screen, tap . Sprint PCS Operator Services Sprint PCS Operator Services can provide assistance in placing collect calls or calls billed to a local telephone calling card or a third party.  On the Dialpad screen, tap . Note: This service may not be available in all affiliate markets. Note: Sprint PCS Operator Services may not be available in all affiliate markets. Tap to change the display settings Section 2 22Getting To Know Your Sprint PCS Phone Turning Your Module ON and OFF Turning your Module ON To turn your module on, press the Power button on your SB3000 for approximately one second. The module beeps and the screen displays Please wait while the module is turning on. <Need Sprint banner or terminology for powering up.> Once your module is on, it displays Network Search while your module looks for a signal. When your module finds a signal, it automatically takes you to the Phone application. At this point, you're ready to begin making and receiving calls. If your module is unable to find a signal after 15 minutes of searching, a Power Save feature is automatically activated. The message Power Save appears. Your module searches for a signal periodically without your intervention. You can also initiate a search for Sprint PCS Service by tapping OK on the Power Save dialog. Turning your Module OFF Press for two seconds. The module beeps and the message Power Down. Goodbye. appears while the module is turning off. The message Phone is off appears when the module is off. Tip: If you try to place an outgoing call when your module is off, you will be asked if you want to turn the module on. Tip: The Power Save feature helps to conserve your battery power when you are in an area where there is no signal. Getting To Know Your Sprint PCS Phone 23 Getting Started 2 Getting to Know Your Communicator 2 Understanding Roaming 2 Getting Started 2 Getting Started 2 Using the KeyGuard <This feature is not applicable. Confirmed by AirPrime. OK to remove?> The KeyGuard feature helps avoid accidental key presses without blocking incoming calls or messages. KeyGuard is disabled when you receive an incoming call and is reactivated when the call is complete. 1. To activate the KeyGuard, highlight KeyGuard in the main menu and press . 2. To disable the KeyGuard, press and hold . Using the Battery Battery Capacity Your Sprint PCS Communicator is equipped with a Lithium Ion (LiIon) battery. This allows you to recharge your battery before it is fully drained. The battery provides approximately 6 hours of continuous talk time or approximately 10-28 days of continuous standby time, depending on network configurations. When the battery reaches 5% of its capacity, the battery icon blinks and the message Phone battery is low appears. When the battery reaches 3% of its capacity, the battery icon blinks, the message Phone battery is critically low appears, and the module sounds an audible alert. When the battery is empty, the module powers down and the message Please recharge your phone battery appears. Note: Searching for service and using the vibrate mode affect the battery’s talk and standby times. Tip: Be sure to charge your module’s battery and watch your Battery icon to ensure the battery level is OK. Section 2 24Getting To Know Your Sprint PCS Phone Installing the Battery Your Sprint PCS Communicator comes with a LiIon battery. Follow these easy steps to install it: 1. Insert the top edge of the battery into the battery compartment on the back of the SB3000 Module. The label on the battery faces in (toward the SB3000). 2. Push the bottom edge of the battery down until the latch clicks. <Need better graphic.> Removing the Battery To remove your battery, follow these easy steps: 1. Remove the SB3000 Module from your Visor handheld. 2. Press the latch and lift the bottom edge of the battery out of the SB3000. 3. You should charge the battery as soon as possible so you can begin using your module. Keeping track of your battery’s charge is important. If your battery level becomes too low, your module automatically turns off and you may lose some data. For a quick check of your module’s battery level, glance at the Battery icon located in the upper-right corner of the Phone application screen. When the battery charge gets too low, the Battery icon appears empty and starts to flash. When you’re ready to charge your battery, it is vital that you use only a Sprint PCS-approved charger, such as the travel charger that came with your module …

Section 4 46Making and Answering Calls  1sr Call Only to end a 3-way call by terminating the second call and returning to the original call. End-of-Call Options After receiving a call identified by Caller ID, or after making a call to a phone number that is not in your Address Book, the phone number, the duration of the call, and the following options are displayed. To select an option, tap it.  Done to return to the Phone application.  Save to Address Book to save the phone number in your Address Book (see below). Saving a Phone Number At the end of a phone call, if the phone number is not already in your handheld’s Address Book, your Sprint PCS Communicator can save the number to your Address Book. To save a number at the end of a call: 1. Tap Hang Up to disconnect the call. <Insert graphic of Call Hung Up screen.> 2. Tap Save to Address Book . The Paste Number confirmation appears. Note: The End-of-Call options are not displayed for calls identified as No ID or Blocked Caller ID. Tip: You can also save a number to your Address Book using the Call History screen. Continue editing the entry, then tap Done when you are finished. Finding a Phone Number <This feature is described in the Address Book chapter. OK to discard here?> You can search for Internal Phone Book entries with phone numbers that contain a specific string of numbers. To find a phone number: 1. Enter one or more digits. The more numbers you enter, the more specific the search becomes. 2. Highlight Find and press . 3. To display the Internal Phone Book entry that contains the phone number, highlight the entry and press . To dial the number, press again. Tip: For more information about using the Address Book, see the “Visor Handheld User Guide” that came with your handheld. Section 4 48Making and Answering Calls Dialing Extra Digits Sometimes you may need to dial extra digits (or send DTMF tones) while you are on a call. For example, if you call an automated answering system, you might need to enter an extension number. Or, you may need to enter credit card billing information while you are on a call. To dial a phone number with extra digits: 1. On the Active Call screen, tap Key Pad . <Insert graphic of Key Pad screen.> 2. Enter the additional numbers. 3. Tap Done when you are finished. Calling Emergency Numbers You can place calls to 911 (tap ) and other emergency numbers even if your module is locked, you have no service, or your module has not been activated. For more information on calling emergency numbers, see "Using Special Numbers" on page 124. Displaying Your Phone Number Just in case you forget your phone number, your Sprint PCS Communicator can remind you. To display your phone number: 1. Make sure your module is on. 2. Press the Phone Application button or tap the Phone icon in the Applications Launcher to start the Phone application. Tip: You can change the kind of DTMF tones (long or short) the module sends using the the Phone Preferences menu option. See "Setting Your Phone Module Preferences" on page 105 Tip: You can also dial phone numbers with extra digits using Speed Dial. See page 130 for more information. Menus also let you check and change your module settings. Accessing Menus To access the menus:  Tap the menu icon on your Visor™ handheld. The available menus appear at the top of the screen; the active menu is highlighted. To choose a different menu, tap the menu name. Selecting Menu Items When you choose a menu name, the available menu items appear below the menu name. Select a menu item by tapping it. For example, if you want to change your Sound Preferences: 1. From any of the Phone application screens, tap the menu icon on your Visor handheld. 2. Tap Options . The Options menu items appear below the menu name. 3. Tap Sound Preferences . The Sound Preferences screen appears. Note: Some menus cannot be accessed unless your module is turned on. See page 53. Using Your Address Book 99 10 10 10 10 Using YourAddress Book 10  By displaying the Internal Phone Book entry name or phone number, the time and date of the alarm and the following menu options. OK to remove?> When your phone is turned on and you have a call alarm scheduled, your phone alerts you and displays the following options. To select an option, highlight it and press .
