Table 4.1 shows the actions described in this section. NOTE: When you install the NPM racks, finish positioning and leveling the first rack before proceeding to the second rack. This makes leveling the racks easier and minimizes the potential for errors that may occur during rack placement. The racks are suitable for mounting on concrete or other non-combustible surfaces only. ActionPage Prepare the Installation Location52 Position the Racks54 Secure the Racks55 Table 4.1Installing the NPM Racks Procedure Summary installation.book Page 51 Wednesday, August 6, 2003 6:06 PM 52Part 004071A revision 00bAugust 6, 2003 Amosphere NPM Installation Procedures (MMDS) Prepare the Installation Location This procedure applies to installing the NPM basestation on a concrete floor and securing the racks using 4-inch concrete expansion bolts (called anchor bolts in this document). These anchor bolts are designed for sites in level 4 seismic zones and may not be suitable for your site. See your field engineering package (FEP) for rack installation procedures specific to your site. To prepare the installation location 1Mark with a chalk line the location where you will install the racks. Refer to your field engineering package (FEP) for the required location. If there are overhead requirements, use a plumb line to align the rack vertically. Placed together, the NPM racks have a footprint of 1.2 m by 0.6 m (47 1/4 inches by 23 5/8 inches). The racks are 2.11 m (83 inches) in height. 2Verify that there is adequate space for the racks: iMove both racks to the intended installation location. iiEnsure that you have room for both racks, their cabling, and enough space for airflow and the insertion and removal of components. See page 28 for airflow requirements. iiiRemove the racks. 3Place the isolation pad in the precise location designated for the first rack using the chalk line as your guide. The base of each rack hangs over the edge of its isolation pad by 1 mm (1/32 inch). 4Trace the anchor hole locations on the concrete floor using the cutouts on the isolation pad as your guide. Use the four outer locations and trace the entire shape of the anchor holes. 5Remove the isolation pad. 6Punch the concrete in the outer edge of each anchor guide using the concrete punch. This will make drilling the anchor holes easier. 7Drill an anchor hole 101 mm (4 inches) deep on the outer edge of each anchor hole using a hammer drill with an 3/4-inch carbide-tipped masonry bit. 8If the drill bit hits a metal reinforcement bar, move the hole location to the inner edge of the anchor guide and repeat steps 6 and 7. 9Ensure that the holes are 101 mm (4 inches) deep; otherwise, the anchor bolts will not sit properly. installation.book Page 52 Wednesday, August 6, 2003 6:06 PM August 6, 2003 Part 004071A revision 00b53 Chapter 4: Installation Procedures 10Clean each anchor hole thoroughly using a vacuum cleaner with a narrow nozzle attachment that can reach into the hole and remove the debris. 11Cover the anchor holes with tape to prevent debris from entering them. 12Repeat steps 3 to 11 for the second rack. installation.book Page 53 Wednesday, August 6, 2003 6:06 PM 54Part 004071A revision 00bAugust 6, 2003 Amosphere NPM Installation Procedures (MMDS) Position the Racks This procedure describes how to position and level the racks. To position the racks 1Install two eyelet bolts in the top of each rack if you intend to use a crane to move the racks. 2If you are using anchor bolts, remove the tape from the anchor holes. 3Place the isolation pad back in the precise location designated for the rack using the chalk line and optional drilled holes as your guide. 4Position the rack directly over the isolation pad. Take care not to move the isolation pad. When viewed from the front, the radio rack must be installed to the left of the RF rack. Figure 4.1 shows the correct positions of the NPM racks. Figure 4.1NPM Rack Positions 5Ensure that the rack is vertically aligned, side-to-side and front-to-rear within 0.25 cm (0.1 inches), using a torpedo level. Add shims as needed until the rack is level. 6Repeat steps 3 to 5 for the second rack. 00553 RF Rack Radio Rack installation.book Page 54 Wednesday, August 6, 2003 6:06 PM August 6, 2003 Part 004071A revision 00b55 Chapter 4: Installation Procedures Secure the Racks This procedure describes how to secure the radio and RF racks in place. Consult your field engineering package (FEP) for any site-specific GPS antenna installation requirements. The NPM basestation uses two GPS antennas for redundancy purposes—they do not affect each other’s operation and they can be installed in close proximity to each other. Figure 4.20 shows the Zyfer GPS antenna assembly. Figure 4.20GPS Antenna Assembly 00293 TNC Connector Set Screw GPS Clock Module Coaxial Cable Allen Key Pipe Pipe Adapter installation.book Page 106 Wednesday, August 6, 2003 6:06 PM August 6, 2003 Part 004071A revision 00b107 Chapter 4: Installation Procedures Before You Begin Before you begin to install the GPS antennas: „Select an installation location away from any objects that might obstruct satellite visibility to 10° of the horizon. Obstructions may cause a degradation of the GPS clock module’s performance. „Ensure that the type and length of cabling used to connect the GPS antenna to the GPS clock module meets your attenuation and shielding requirements. To install the GPS antennas 1Run the two coaxial cables supplied with each antenna from the NPM racks to the intended location of the GPS antennas, such as the basestation’s roof or tower. NOTE: Ensure that the cable remains clear of any sources of potential interference, such as transmitting equipment or power lines. 2Vertically install two 1-inch-diameter pipes in a location that provides the maximum unobstructed view of the sky. 3Run a coaxial cable through the center of each pipe. 4Attach a pipe adapter to the top of each pipe. Ensure that the pipe adapters are connected tightly to the pipes by tightening the set screw. Use a 5/32-inch Allen key to tighten the set screw. 5Attach a GPS antenna to the end of each coaxial cable. The GPS antennas use female TNC connectors. 6Attach the GPS antennas to each pipe adapter. installation.book Page 107 Wednesday, August 6, 2003 6:06 PM 108Part 004071A revision 00bAugust 6, 2003 Amosphere NPM Installation Procedures (MMDS) Install the Main and Diversity Antennas This procedure describes the general process for installing the main and diversity antennas. American Telecommunications Certification Body Inc. 6731 Whittier Ave, McLean, VA 22101 September 15, 2003 RE: FCC ID: POZNPMMDS004699 Attention: Juan Martinez I have a few comments on this Application. 1. Please note that the documentation does not indicate Instructional Television services use under Part 74 I. The “What is the NPM Base station” section of the theory of operation states the device is for the purpose of “ air interface to deliver QoS managed broadband services” and “resource to execute Internet access and telephony applications”. Please note that the 731 for this device only mentions Part 21. While the testing appears to show frequencies that are shared with part 74 bands (i.e. 2596–2644MHz), and while channels I21, I29, I22 and I30 are grand fathered, there is nothing evident within the application to show that the device provides “instructional television” services. Therefore the appropriate part would appear to be only part 21. Please explain (provide evidence) as to how this device fits into the Part 74 Subpart I - Instructional Television Fixed Services. Alternately, please clarify if the purpose of providing part 74I data. 2. Please note that since the antenna gain of the transmit antenna has not been provided (the only gain given is that of the 38dBi GPS antenna and it is not clear if this is the same gain as the transmit antenna) it is not clear if the ERP of this device actually meets the exclusion from MPE calculations in 1.1307b1. Please provide gain information for the transmit antenna so comparison to 1.1307 can be made for applicability to rf exposure. Alternately, if available, please provide any MPE data for this device showing the device meets the exclusion of rf exposure. Dennis Ward mailto:[email protected] The items indicated above must be submitted before processing can continue on the above referenced application. Failure to provide the requested information may result in application termination. Correspondence should be considered part of the permanent submission and may be viewed from the Internet after a Grant of Equipment Authorization is issued. Please do not respond to this correspondence using the email reply button. In order for your response to be processed expeditiously, you must submit your documents through the AmericanTCB.com website. Also, please note that partial responses increase processing time and should not be submitted. Any questions about the content of this correspondence should be directed to the sender.

Please provide gain information for the transmit antenna so comparison to 1.1307 can be made for applicability to rf exposure. Alternately, if available, please provide any MPE data for this device showing the device meets the exclusion of rf exposure. Response: Soma will be using antennas gains ranging from 10 to 19 dBi. An MPE calculation has been uploaded. Also the label that will be placed on the antennas has been uploaded. For purpose of avoiding making multiple labels for each antenna gain, the worst-case distance, which was calculated with the highest gain antenna, has been used in the RF exposure statement. This label will be used and placed on all the other gain antennas visible to all persons that will be expose to the transmitter antenna. Please let us know if this will be ok. Also, SOMA is aware that the system will have to be evaluated for RF exposure compliance, since the total EIRP is 1683 Watts, which is over the 1640 W (EIRP) threshold. But per FCC, exposure survey, of the base station site, is taken care by the licensee with the FCC Wireless Telecommunication Bureau at the time of license approval.
